So as the title says, I main warlock. I've been a warlock since the Beta. If you look at my profile, you'll notice I haven't even bothered leveling up my other two characters. (The hunter is actually my roommate's, and he doesn't play anymore.) Anyway, I love my warlock, and I haven't had any reason to level up my titan, until now.
After the June update, Sunsinger does not feel as good. The grenades just don't have the punch that they used to, and the class is pretty lacking without that advantage. This change unfortunately came after I had spent a few months trying to teach myself how to use the subclass effectively. As you can imagine, I was a bit upset. But after the salt had left my system, I was faced with the choice between returning to my beloved Voidwalker, with whom I had spent the entirety of year 1, or finally level up my titan to shake things up. I chose to try the titan.
I will admit, part of my choice was due to an apparent bump in titan performance in the crucible. At least that's what I saw. Titans appeared to be doing better, at the very least when fighting me. So I decided to try it out. Now another significant factor in my decision was what the title hints at: Shoulder Charge.
As I said before, I wanted to shake things up, but I also wanted to see how easy (or difficult) this ability is to use. Full disclosure: I've been getting pretty salty lately after getting charged. I think we all have. It's pretty clear that every subclass aside from Striker has a healthy frustration with the ability, just as we all do with pretty much every one-hit-kill. It's frustrating to get sniped, or one-banged with a shotty, or shoulder charged, or stickied. However when we fall victim to this mechanics, it's easy to see them as "broken" or "OP." I wanted to see if Shoulder Charge was as simple and easy to use as I thought it was -- if it was OP.
Now my titan is under-leveled, and I don't have any really good exotics for the titan class (as far as I know). My rationale was that if the ability is OP, an under-leveled and inexperienced guardian should be able to pick up the ability in just a game or two. If I wrecked with Shoulder-Charge after almost literally never using it, it must be broken. My first game with my titan (at least in months) went surprisingly well. It wasn't a slaughter, but I finished positive with 13 and 12. I enjoyed the lightning grenade, the strong melee base damage, and the quick titan skating. However, I absolutely loved using Shoulder Charge. It was incredibly satisfying. I got a few charge kills and it was starting to look like this ability really was broken.
The next game absolutely shattered this notion. The next few rounds, in fact, were nothing short of devastating -- especially for Shoulder charge. I stopped short in front of enemies and got shot in the mouth. I sailed past them and got an ass full of buckshot. Sometimes I would realize I hadn't been sprinting long enough, and would end up gently patting a hunter on his cheek -- staring longingly into his perfect hazel eyes as he filled me with his lead. The point is I did not realize what it takes to use Shoulder Charge as well as I thought. My first game must have been against the Blueberry Brigade or something, or perhaps I just got cocky in my second, but it just wasn't the awesome death-bringing weapon that it seemed.
Now I'm not saying that Shoulder charge isn't frustrating to come up against. It is. Every one-banger is frustrating. I'm not saying the ability is perfectly balanced, maybe with the right gear and perks it turns into a pretty filthy mechanic. However, I can say that the Charge doesn't feel as OP as it used to, at least not to me. I think now I'm a bit less salty when I die. You can still be frustrated when a titan charges you. I know I am. But if you've read this far, I hope you at least realize that it's not an ability that any old blueberry can just pick up and dominate with. It's not on that level of OP. I don't really think it's that OP at all. Frustrating? Perhaps. OP? I'm not really convinced.

44 RespuestasBro SC should be on melee cooldown. That's all the tweaking it needs. You can still sc without it for movement but it shouldn't be one shit unless you have your melee up. Job done. All classes balanced.

Just use a fusion rifle. Shoulder charges are hard to counter for most because hardly anyone runs the gun type that was basically built to stop enemies that you can track their movement predictably. Aka a titan running right at you. Stop trading kills with shotguns, stop panic sniping, stop trying to pump a primarys full clip to try (and fail usually) to kill them. Fusions are the answer to this scenario, so use one if theres a shoulder charging goon (me) on the loose
-
2 RespuestasOnly thing I don't like is then, you always have to have a shotgun. That's what annoys
-
1 RespuestaIt's not OP. It's just hard to counter without a shotgun because pretty much all primaries suck right now. It was a indirect buff, and I'll admit shoulder charge is extremely easy to use, but I'll take a shoulder charging Titan over a juggernaut warrior any day
-
3 RespuestasI want everyone who thinks it should use a melee charges to understand that this would mean I shouldn't need to sprint. I should be able to use my SC like a hunters throwing knife, or just switch to juggernaut and murder you until you cry like a bitch about that too. Which wouldn't surprise me. There nothing broken about SC of you get within a warlocks melee range without a shotgun, you made a mistake, and then you die because of it. Accept that you got outplayed, because as OP stated, it's not as easy as it seems. I get maybe 2 SC kills a game, every other time i get shotgunned to hell. SC is perfect, and always has been.

1 RespuestaOn behalf of many titans, thank you. What's also fun is sun charge.

7 RespuestasEditado por Angelis101: 6/24/2016 11:05:10 AMAnybody that played against year one shoulder charge has no issues with what it is now. It has its limitations just like any other ability. However, I chose to roll a hunter after the changes because voidwalker is lacking without axion bolt. And what I mean is shade step renders half of the popular grenades useless. Sunsinger itself isn't a bad class, but it's super is so lack luster with the firebolt changes. 3 firebolts with burn to kill somebody and that's I'd you hit the target at all with the new changes. RIP my warlock.

Thank you.

3 RespuestasErrrrrm.. I love using SC, but it's not the fact that it's a one hit kill that upsets people. It's how people are able to use it. How we all are able to use it. It's also the way we play one another in crucible. For example. You're traversing a map when you catch a blip of red on your radar. No doubt your opponent has seen it as well. If he is using SC and has a brain, he won't run at you. He will do one of two things. He will jump around the corner using Titan skating and SC you from the side, or he will wait for you to get closer and start running in a small circle or into a wall and right when you emerge BAM. The MK44 Stand Asides make this even worse because you can hold an SC for a long time while running and skating. Combine this with max agility and your Titan will be ridiculously fast. If you become proficient with this, you won't need guns at all. Seriously. Say what you will, but it's the truth. Especially in Inferno.. Just watch this. I know it's inferno, but still. https://youtu.be/sni9v_MhSDk

7 RespuestasYeah I agree. The bit about coming up short... that happens a lot actually. To the titans I shoot, I mean, I main a hunter. People talk about SC like there's just nothing In the world you can do to challenge it. Couldn't be further from the truth. I was never 'told' this but just kinda happened. Back up. Seriously, run backwards and the Titan will miss and come up short. Buckshot his teeth. When I first did this it was just instinct kinda like backing up when you see a Captain or a Knight charging you. Granted, you'll have to see the Titan coming, but it happens most of the time. It'll be obvious... he's the titan sprinting at you and not shooting. Other than that, I think people need to stop being lazy. Stop thinking you can go into every single matchup and do the same stuff over and over. When I see a Striker on the map, I swap loadouts, watch my corners, grab some smokes, etc. A Striker Titan is supposed to be a close quarters king. So don't be trying to give him hugs and then crying nerf. Stop thinking you can just shoot SC titans with your auto rifle then whine when you get a flying knee to the face. Stop thinking you can chill around doorways and pick people off. A shoulder will hit your face. (Duh. Close quarters.) Stop standing in lightning grenades, like seriously? Does this need elaboration? Stop mouthbreathing while a skater glides toward you. Jump out of the way or feed him a barrel. Most importantly (this isn't for the OP) stop wanting to nerf every thing. The classes are supposed to be drastically different and offset each other. Learn to use your class before you go bitching about some dumb ability that "keeps killing you". If you've seriously not figured out counters to SC, then there's no helping you.

Where's the satire tag

Heres an experiment for anyone saying shoulder charge is OP. Go into a game using only shoulder charge. No guns, no punches or grenades. See if you can go positive consistently.
-
2 RespuestasSC cant be OP simply due to the fact that we have radars and that almost every player in the crucible primaries a shotgun. Those 2 factors alone make most SC attempts a suicide mission.

4 RespuestasEditado por Taktikz: 6/24/2016 2:00:05 PMSomeone commented below that the Shoulder Charge is just like using a Shotgun... and I agree, I say to my team mates that the reason I never use a shotgun when I run Titan is because I don't need to, I'll just charge them instead. It really isn't difficult to counter if you know how, seriously it isn't and in Trials / Elimination you can't go around shoulder charging willy nilly like you would in a 6v6 game mode, because good players will just make you look stupid, in 3v3 game modes the Shoulder Charge takes skill, timing, risk and good judgement as to when to use it. Also, i think some guys seem to forget that the Titan is supposed to be the tank class out of the 3 classes available, it's the class which is supposed to be charging in taking the brunt of the action while the other 2 classes support, so in that sense the Shoulder Charge is a creditable ability for the class. I also think another thing some people seem to forget is that the Strikers Super is usually only a 1 kill Super. in 3v3 game modes.. unless you get fortunate enough to stumble upon 2 or 3 reprobates sticking together.
-
You forgot to mention that SC is suicidal unless you catch someone completely off guard.

IF YOU DON'T WANNA BE A OHK FROM A SHOULDER CHARGE WEAR ARC ARMOR! hope that's a good enough hint.

Nice post

Enjoyed your post. Truth is, I main a Striker. I've been running Striker since the beta...and I don't use shoulder charge for the very reasons you discovered. If you don't do it just right you're screwed. I also found being that aggressive as a Titan put me in a lot of situations to do die a LOT more often. Back in the early days Titan melee sucked. Strikers in truth have changed very little since the beginning, and really they don't need to be changed as they fill a unique but very simple roll. Those players who have trained hard to be effective with Shoulder Charge deserve a bit of respect at what they can do and how they benefit their team. If you don't use shoulder charge, adapt to the multiple ways you can counter the move; there are multiple ways to do this! Good post! A Striker for Life

When i look at your comment section is filled with titain cry babies

To be honest I don't see anything wrong with shoulder charge. Just the people who use it like a primary. That's why I love my fusion rifle.

So u decided based on two games with an underleveled Titan which you've never used? Smart

22 RespuestasI feel that shoulder charge should only work when you have a charged melee and uses your melee up when activated.

I shoulder charged a scoped in sniper from the side and I wasn't sure which one of us was being cheap. Was it me for using a small map to blind side him or was it him for sniping a spawn point and getting blind sided by a super fast titan skating shoulder charge. Do people even know what the other 2 perks are on the titan skill tree next to shoulder charge?
