Balancing PVP : A Seasoned Player's Thoughts

Hello, I've always been a competitive FPS guy. In Destiny, I have around a 2.7 K/D with around 70,000 kills--I say this not to boast but for credibility. Destiny has been fun since day one for me; however, I feel as if Bungie is in need of reevaluating their approach to balancing their sandbox. Rather than constantly change damage values, why not add unique perks to vary gameplay while also providing the ability to counter certain perks/effects? In the case of Thorn, when it reigned supreme, why not have an armor perk that significantly reduces DoT? This would have solved the Thorn issue, the firebolt issue, and the "supposed" throwing knife issue. Instead of nerfing shade step and the twilight garrison, why not create a weapon perk that increases the cool down for an opponent's armor effect when damage is dealt? Instead of nerfing blink over and over, why not make other jumps more appealing? My point is: Rather than playing with the damage numbers, why not give us more varied perks that add interesting ways to play while providing reasonable counters? PVP feels stale compared to what it used to be--do you agree? Let me know in the comments.

 • This is, actually, a good idea. Giving players more varied effects and choices for a build, viable ones at that, is excellent. To go with the whole shade step/garrison example you suggested. How about a mini-suppressor? After a kill for a few seconds a gun suppresses abilities on headshots or something for one second or so which could turn people who are good at using said gun into lethal monsters but if you're only getting bodyshots it seems slightly useless, and one second isn't long enough to stop someone who's actively fleeing but in a firefight it's enough to prevent an evasion or sticky grenade from getting off. Give people armor perks that provide more varied effects with actual tradeoffs so PVP doesn't just devolve into "max armor, shoot dudes" and allow for setups that feel different instead of "same as the usual but with less armor".
