I’m truly disappointed, Bungie.
Let me explain. Your company brought us Halo for God’s sake. Halo… a game with a beautiful musical score, amazing graphics (for its time), masterfully crafted story, and memorable characters. Halo’s legacy is still felt today… and I believe I speak for many fans when I say that it is still regarded as quite possibly one of the best and most memorable gaming experiences of all time.
When Destiny was announced I couldn’t have been more excited. Waiting for the release of Destiny was like being a kid trying to go to sleep on Christmas Eve. The anticipation was heavy. I mean, who wouldn’t be excited for a massive online shooter developed by the legendary Bungie?
I couldn’t have been more let down. I remember the article posted in Game Informer magazine entitled “Bungie Reveals the Staggering Scope of Destiny.” However, the reality is that “staggering” is only a word I would use to describe my horrible disappointment with this polished turd, and the complete lack of regard for producing anywhere near the level of size, scope, and quality that gamers were promised with this game.
Here are 7 reasons why I’m seriously considering hanging up my guardian’s weapon for good:
1. Lack of depth – The game seriously lacks depth for several reasons. For one thing, it’s probably a bad sign when one of your top writers leaves to go and work for a rival company – mid development. If I was project lead at that point I would seriously be rethinking my decision to “water down” the story for this game. I mean, come on Bungie. There are enough articles posted all over the internet about how deep and complex the original story for this game really was – before you made the decision to send the original script to the chopping block.
But wait – I know what you’re going to say. “But The Taken King has far more story. See fans? We hear you.” No, Bungie. Adding a few additional CGI cut-scenes supplemented by a little witty banter between the leaders of the Vanguard does not count as deep story. That’s called filler. People that appreciate depth in story telling see right through that half-assed attempt for what it is. Don’t pretend we don’t know where your focus lies. You insult our intelligence.
The most infuriating aspect of the game’s lack of depth? It’s the fact that we were promised the opposite – and continue to be promised the opposite – only to be spoon fed the same recycled nonsense repeatedly for 30 to 40 bucks a pop. Again, Bungie, we know where your focus lies.
2. Lack of creativity – I’m just downright sick of seeing our own solar system in this game. Seriously… What year is it in “Destiny land?” Isn’t it like the 24th century or something? Later maybe? We seriously can’t travel beyond our own solar system? Why? Because of “the darkness?” What exactly is “the darkness” anyways? Oh wait… maybe I should have put that in the “Lack of Depth” section regarding how watered down the story in this game is. “Here, guardian, here’s a gun. Point it at these aliens coming out of the big dark blob and don’t stop shooting until the 10 more of the same bland expansions stop coming.”
Along those same lines – No, Bungie. “The Taken” do not freakin count as NEW enemies. You can’t take existing character models, paint them black with some blue and white shinny particle effects, give them a few new attacks, and call them new. I call BS.
3. MICRO-TRANSACTIONS – We were promised no micro-transactions… or at least a severe reluctance to resort to micro-transactions. But what do we have now? Micro-transactions.
But wait – there’s more… What you get from your precious sterling boxes is still COMPLETELY RANDOM (with a supposed higher chance of getting something you don’t already have). So that means you can spend 10… 20… 30…. or more dollars – and still not be able to complete a full set of desolate or spektar gear. WTF. Seriously.
4. SEVERE lack of customization – I have lost count of how many times I have passed up a good weapon or piece of gear because what I had just simply looked better. Call me vain… but I’m one of those players that likes my character to look like a badass too. Shaders are ok, but is it too much to ask for you to add a mechanic that allows us to apply a specific look to a weapon or piece of armor? Another big title did this… Diablo III. Best thing ever. Learn from it.
Also, what about the randomness of weapon perks? Why can’t we pick and choose some of the perks we get on weapons? Yes, I know you might argue that all snipers would want “Hidden Hand,” and whatnot, but there’s a solution for that too… Like better perks overall that make you really think long and hard when choosing one… or perks that force you to stick to a particular strategy for PvP or PvE without there being one “fool proof” method.
I think you guys really need to look up the word “variety” in the dictionary and speak it repeatedly like a mantra. Maybe then we can actually see some of the customizability that we were initially promised.
5. Repetitiveness – This goes almost without saying. One can only do the same missions, bounties, strikes, and raids over and over again before one gets terribly bored… and no, making the loot horribly random to entice players to experience such content over and over does not increase “replayability.” It only creates the illusion of this, and instead becomes what many, many MMO players across the globe have truly come to loathe. It’s called grinding. Grinding sucks. Fix it.
I mean, I still have some faith in your talent, Bungie. There are ways of solving this. Making the game truly more “open world” is one solution that many players would welcome. Figure it out. It’s the 21st century. It CAN be done.
6. No trading between players – I have heard arguments for, and arguments against this mechanic, but the bottom line is that every major MMO that has ever existed has at least allowed some form of trade amongst players. Allowing players to trade amongst themselves not only makes it simpler to obtain some of the games more rare items, but also adds depth to a game that is already severely lacking in this area already. It would also eliminate the need for micro-transactions completely. When you can trade with another player for that last piece of gear you need, there’s no need to shell out 10 bucks for some silver and a chance for it to drop at random.
But wait… maybe I’m missing the point of micro-transactions in the eyes of Bungie… because again… we know where your focus lies. Might as well keep milking that cash cow right? How many millions have you made so far? I bet it would take me many lifetimes to save it all. Good for you. You jumped on the marketing bandwagon that is squeezing your fans for money for shinny things. Be proud.
7. The road most travelled… This is where it all comes together. Everyone remembers that great poem by Robert Frost that ends “…and I took the road less travelled by, and that has made all the difference.” Well Bungie simply does the opposite.
Micro-transactions are huge money-makers. Many marketing studies prove this. As long as people keep spending the money they will keep getting more and more popular. It would not surprise me if entire sets of armor or weapons were sold in bundles for 30 bucks a pop a few years down the road. Count me out. As a player I would rather earn it… and legitimately by being challenged… not by getting my ass kicked repeatedly, finally to prevail, and only to be left disappointed when RNJesus doesn’t drop the rife I want.
It’s also easier to write a lackluster story, supplement it with filler, and then slap a big “to be continued” on it. Bungie does this masterfully. I call it laziness. Yes, telling a story in an MMO is hard – especially if players are looking for a more open world experience. But it can be done. Not even trying is just plain lazy.
It’s easy to take existing character models, slap on some new skins, and pretend that players will be fighting all new enemies. But we’re not stupid, Bungie. What we are, however, is bored.
For the record… I don’t give a rat’s ass about the Iron Lords. They’re dead. Let them rot. What myself, and many other fans would rather see is something truly new like… I don’t know… another star system… or an entirely new race of aliens. It’s been almost two years guys. Come on.
As for all of you reading this… stop paying them for this nonsense. They don’t care about you. It’s about what’s in your wallet. If you really want to see Bungie start listening to fans and start giving them what they want then stop supporting the crap they keep releasing. If you continue down this path you might as well run off and play the next Call of Duty. How many of them are there now? 37? Feels like it at least…
Destiny is getting old, Bungie. Time to show us what you’re truly made of.

I agree with you about a couple of things, ( I for one care not for the microtransactions and lack of seperation of PVE and PVP amongst other things) However there are a few things I would dispute: • Lack of Creativity. Sure, going to another star system would be amazing, but I've done that in so many other games (Not that is a bad thing, I still enjoy it.) yet what I like about Destiny is seeing what humanity accomplished in it's own Home System.( The Sol system) It's both familiar territory yet still very alien and some of the designs and settings harken back to older sci-fi. ( Mars and Venus in this universe remind me of Amtor and Barsoom of ERB fame.) Exploring the iron-red wastes and buried cities of Mars and the acid rain jungles of Venus. A lot of the alien architecture and aesthetics of the enemy factions we fight is pretty iconic and beautiful as well IMO: • The ominous crypt and recondite style of the Hive, hollowing out moons to travel the stars and placing gates to the netherworld of their gods. • The salvaged and cobbled together Insectoid style of the Fallen/Eliksni, once a great people now pirates forced to scavenge and brutalize to survive. • The clockwork, overlapping and complex geometry of the Vex. Who work to build themselves into the fabrics of the universe and become more physical law (and therefore eternal) • The highly disciplined and spartan aesthetic of the Cabal. Who's organized and militant might make them a fearsome foe. • Even the Taken ( I know they are reskins) who are foes snatched from our world, remade, and then brought back in a new and 'perfect" form. Forgive my pretentious sounding dialect, but in my opinion, all of the enemy factions have pretty unique and distinct characteristics. ( The Fallen/Eliksni maybe my favorite). While I think some of the armor weapon and weapon designs are "meh" (Especially some of the base vanilla designs) a lot of the Exotics and even the Raid Gear are very distinct looking. ( Vex Mythoclast, Necrochasm, Ice-Breaker, Thorn, etc. all look amazing and unique) • The Lack of Depth/Story. I won't lie, the story of vanilla lacked overall focus and aim....and was extremely bleh. There were potentially very interesting plot-points and characters...but never got any follow-up. The Taken King was definitely a step-up, IMO in that department. There was more banter, there was a clearer goal, more varied missions, more understanding of the characters we working with and a much better presentation. It wasn't the video game story ever, but it was a much needed step up and still enjoyable overall. ( What definitely soured it was leaving behind all the gear from Y1.) And while the story still needs work for sure, the lore is certainly very interesting and even pretty provoking. ( I went and collected all the Ghosts and Calcified fragments to read the Books of Sorrow) what sucks about it is that it's not accessible in-game anywhere at all but only on the BUNGIE website. ( Again, this really puzzled me and made me frustrated because virtually ever y other game of this nature has something like this in game.) Also, while Destiny's plot and narrative may be broken and is slowly putting itself back together, the theme of the game is in-tact...mostly. Destiny is about trying to take back what humanity has lost from the Collapse one step at a time. We are in the Sol System because it's the first step to our reclamation. Before Humanity can go outside our system, we need to take back home base first. Not to mention, Humanity is still getting back on it's feet and there isn't very much of it left. (Probably a few million at the most in the Last City alone.) The Darkness is frightening ( I wish they would have called it something else, The Darkness is a bit too generic IMHO.). not because dark = evil but because it was an unfathomable powerful entity that literally warped the cosmos around it just by existing, like something from the Cthulhu Mythos. ( Which does have an entity like that, called the Magnum Tenebrosum AKA the Unamed Darkness, which is an Outer God.) Anywho, I just wanted to offer my point of view and how I felt about some of the stuff in Destiny. If I didn't already say it, I don't think the game is perfect or there aren't design decisions I dislike (Some ardently so) but I also want to give credit where credit is due. I've been burnt out on Destiny myself, but I've also had a great time with it for a while as well. I understand and respect that you're done with it, and I won't give you guff if you leave or if the game no longer offers you anything for you to enjoy. I just wanted to throw my opinion in. C: ( I had a few more points I wanted to add in, especially like the crafting system, which I actually made a topic about...but a system like that for Destiny is very problematic. Regardless, my post is already long-winded enough as it is so I didn't want it to go overboard.)

3 RespuestasBruh, if you have this many problems with the game, then don't play it. There ARE other games besides Destiny.
-
I'd love to see Deej or Cozmo respond, they won't though.
-
Biggest problem with trading is people just buying things off eBay and not earning the though game events which is whole reason why to have exotics.
-
Halo… a game with a beautiful musical score
What a coincidence, I was listening to Halo 3's soundtrack when reading your post. R.I.P Marty O'Donnell
-
There was only 1 way of fixing this and that was for deej's mum to have an abortion you bring out nerfs and buffs that didn't need doing to make it look like your doing something but in all trueness your fvcking it up for yourselves your a bunch of robbing cvnts this dlc should have been part of the season pass

1 RespuestaGiven your reasons, I'm shocked it took you this long to think about quitting. In fact I don't believe it. There's only one reason: you're no longer having fun, yet somehow have a hard time admitting that.
-
2 RespuestasI started reading this thinking it was going to be a bunch of whining, but you have excellently explained your issues with the game. I don't necessarily agree with all of your points, but I have hope Bungie can massively improve the experience in a Destiny 2. I think a lot of the problems, in part, were due to development on 4 consoles, 2 of which were 10 year old technology. They had to limit the current gen experience. However, if you're feeling burned or aren't interested in the Iron Lords, just wait if out for the next game. Which better improve the experience significantly or I too will be done with this series.

1 RespuestaI agree with you, Bungie has become a shell of its former self. The characters depth of the Halo games was amazing. You could actually relate and connect to the characters because they felt genuine and real. In Destiny it's the opposite. Your character has almost no dialogue, the vanguard characters just joke and banter with each other over the most trivial things, and the loop holes in the story are so ABSURDLY large. Like we still have no idea who the exo Stanger was/is. Bungie killed the queen and most of the awoken in the reef so that they didn't have to make more story for those characters. Just laziness and lack of interest I feel is what is plaguing Bungie right now.
-
Take my advice, quit like I did. Life is better without Destiny. Correction: life is better without the nincompoops at Bungie.

Editado por GooglyEyedFrog: 6/18/2016 6:46:10 AMNot sure that anyone is running to the new CoD if the hate on the trailer and abysmal pre orders are anything to go by. The Devs and Activision did not care about players wants and that has bitten them in the behind. What I find worrying is that if Activision are destroying CoD ( not a game I play or enjoy but appreciate millions do ), why would they ever not use Destiny 2 as a cash cow. I have few illusions that it will be better than Destiny
-
I quit because of the recent update. I'm looking forward to playing TITANFALL 2! I couldn't care less about this game anymore. Just want to have fun. :)
-
I agree.
-
You should not be able to say this much in a post...
-
Well I completely agree everything this man said is correct couldn't have said it better myself it's time for a REFORM in destiny it can still be great but a lot of worked has otherwise this game rot can't even sell it at gamestop be cause it's only worth literally 3 dollars really I didn't think that was even possible #RememberHalo

2 RespuestasYou forgot to mention the senseless nerfs!
-
Agreed, Bungie lack of knowing how to come out of the bata mode is ridiculous. As soon as they can do that gamers might actually get a game worth paying for. As it stands now the lack of content only leads to copy and paste...
-
I think lack of creativity is a big one- so much potential for even small items like bounties.
-
2 RespuestasShit or get off the pot.
-
1 RespuestaHuh? Are you just coming up with this now? Or is this an updated necro bump? From October of 2014?
-
4 RespuestasI fukkin lost it at,"RNJesus" Its RNGesus.

1 RespuestaStill you've managed to put in over 960 hours into this game lol Of all your 7 reasons, only number 3 (microtransactions) has been apparent in the last 6 months, everything else in some way or another dates back to year 1 at some point Whilst I'll agree that Bungie can and should massively improve on pretty much all your reasons, they've still do enough for your to put in over 40 days worth of play time into this game, what does that say about you or what does that say about the game? I think you're just finally a bit bored of the game and need to take a break for a bit mate. I stopped playing for 3 months and it was the best thing I could do, came back a few weeks ago still playing far less and i'm actually enjoying it and the game. well the PvE side of things anyways. PvP is still the same but not really alot of fun, there are much better PvP games out there TLDR: Alot of your reasons go way back to year 1, yet you've still put in over 960 hours into the game. A this point I think you're just bored and need a break from it. I think it'll do you good :)

1 RespuestaEditado por The_Maul117: 6/17/2016 5:23:07 PMThe ones that spoke to me the most were segments 1 and 2. The rest is what I've already heard before, constantly... You're right about segment 1 and 2. Even though I have read most, if not all of the lore throughout many sources, it still lacks depth and creativity regarding the fact that Halo delivered that sense of sorrow and I actually really cared about what was going to happen during Halo's campaign stories. Those campaigns made me want to actually immerse myself into defeating the enemies and protecting the heroes of Halo, because they made me feel so many emotions. In Destiny, I could care less about what happens to the Traveler, or anything for that matter. I love Destiny, and I avidly play it. I just could care less about the story and it's development and yet, PvE IS my favorite part of Destiny, nevertheless.

2 RespuestasEditado por Razzupaltuff: 6/17/2016 5:27:32 PMYou are coming up with this after playing Destiny for almost two years? LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL. Talk about credibility. You could have just given all the other posts here saying the exact same an upvote. ;-) My prediction: You will purchase the RoI DLC and keep playing Destiny. People who really want to leave wipe their vault and characters, sell the game CD, silently leave the forum, and never come back. That's what I did after the Dark Below rip off. I just trusted the reviews saying TTK was finally worth it. Unfortunately this wasn't entirely true (to say the least).
-
3 RespuestasAll you need is 1 question answered.... Do you enjoy the game? If the answer is yes, then keep playing. If the answer is no, trade it and move on. You freaking drama queens and your walls of text. See ya!!!

3 RespuestasWith your axe and my bow, all we need is for someone to give them their sword. Then bungie can get the ring to mordor.
