Taking a look into some of these other lore posts about how Destiny has a discontinuous and broken story, I have to refute those claims.
The Vex, centerpiece of Vanilla Destiny, are the only enemy group to appear in every DLC. Yeah. It's true.
There's no Cabal arc in the Dark Below or in House of Wolves, but they get their fair share with The Taken King.
The Fallen get their own expansion in House of Wolves, but only really make small appearances in The Dark Below and The Taken King.
The Hive do have two entire expansions, but are completely absent from House of Wolves.
The Vex. Let's just look at this. In The Dark Below, we get the Undying Mind strike, arguably one of the hardest strikes in the game. In House of Wolves, we see Skolas try and succeed in stealing "The Vex Tech" in order to make his claim to be Kell of Kells more substantial. In The Taken King, we get another Vex strike (Echo Chamber), but more importantly, we get the mission Paradox, and its quest to learn of the fate of Praedyth.
It's my belief that the Vex are the "silent majority" of antagonists within the game. They just don't go away.
Just remember, guys. This is a 10 - year game. We're about 17.5% in. There's a lot of story to tell and they have a while to do it.
Peace and Blessings y'all

I'd argue that the hive are the real antagonists. They are the only ones with a true connection to the darkness, or the deep as they call it. The Vex try to replicate it in the black garden. The Fallen are another race that the traveler once helped and then abandoned when the darkness arrived. The Cabal however may also have a link. We know surprisingly little about them.
-
The main enemy is both the Vex and Hive as they are the 2 enemy's that are truly evil. The cabal are just doing what they have been ordered to by their emperor cos they can't return til they win. And the fallen just want the traveler back cos they need to live.

The Vex -The Mysteries of the Vault of Glass -The Vex storyline with the Stranger The Fallen -House of Kings -The Kell of Kells -The Rise of Iron (New) The Hive -The Worms -The Hive on the Moon -Who will take Oryx's throne -Oryx's sisters -The books of sorrows The Cabal -Well, there's only on storyline with the cabal Misc -Rasputin -Toland -Osiris -The Speaker -Eris -The Reef, Petra, and Variks -The Vanguard -Saint 14 -Rezil Azir -Lord Saladin and the Iron Lords Etc I probably forgot some Anyway, Destiny is not this Linear storyline, it's a branching storyline. We started at a single line, which is that we our guardian's, we need to defend the traveler, prepare for the coming darkness, and we must become legend. From that point, we learn about the world around us, the past, the present, and fears of what the future will hold. As we continue to climb up the tree, the enemies, allies, and neutral people in this world expand and expand. We always though there was more than one tower. Taken King introduced a new tower and showed us the history of that tower, the forgotten faction of the concordant, and Lysander. Many of us will get caught up in the story of Destiny because it's plotline is not going in one direction, but is stretching out in multiple directions.

1 RespuestaHaving lore tucked away in a phone app or in a website, for me, doesn't count as "story". It doesn't seem to have a beginning middle or end, it's all over the place. At least until some people who read lore have made some order to it, so why not have that in the first place? The mission structure, order and the dialogue in Vanilla didn't create "mystery", all it did was make things vague. There was very little explanation as to why we were doing things or what the consequences were. The 3rd mission where you discover the Hive is one of the few missions that has any impact whatsoever. The Taken King has much better story telling because of its use of more cutscenes, dialogue and mission structure. It also brought Quest lines in; that had some flavour text attached to them. Almost like in game grimoire. Now that the story has been fleshed out a bit, it's actually good and there are some intriguing questions about where we go next. If you were to play the game from the beginning with all the DLC, you will notice that the Dark Below happens a lot earlier, you don't even open up the Black Garden mission and you've completed the Dark Below quest line. It's all changed now.

2 RespuestasNot to mention that all of our quests to get the 3 new subclasses were about the vex

1 RespuestaI mean great post but before the game came out Bungie said that the Fallen would be the main antagonists of Destiny. But they've said a lot of things.
-
1 RespuestaThe Vex are pulling all the strings here. Everything that has happened occurred because the Vex wanted it to.

2 RespuestasEditado por Dark_Assassin022: 6/18/2016 11:10:27 AMI'm hoping we won't get hive for at least another year or so, I think everyone can be mutually agreed that they're bored to death with them

It's better than the first Titanfall!

6 RespuestasThat's all good, but its also all background. The in game plot has dramatically improved with TTK... but Dark Souls, Undertale, Spec Ops: The Line, Mass Effect and (maybe most of all) the Witcher 3 showed us, in spectacular fashion, what good storytelling in games really looks like.

Why can't I buy the new DLC yet. It's showing in the Xbox store but there are no places to pay for it

5 RespuestasDestiny's story: Ghost revives dead Guardian who kills all sentient life he/she/it encounters, hears about the Black Garden from a strange robot, travels to the Black Garden because YOLO, destroys the heart of the Black Garden, and hangs back by his/her/its self while everyone celebrates for some reason. Dark Below's story: Guardian shoots Hive because 3 eyed lady said so. No one seems to care. House of Wolves story: Guardian shoots Fallen for treasure. No one seems to care. Taken King story: Oryx invades solar system and destroys fleet of the Reef. Guardian boards the Dreadnaught an kills Oryx. Three eyed lady takes a rock. Guardian continues shooting the Taken all over the solar system because war never ends or changes or whatever. Rise of Iron story:
Guardian shoots mutated Fallen because Saladbar said so.
You disprove yourself in your own post first saying the vex are the only enemy to appear in every DLC before admitting that the fallen do as well (and so do the Hive for that matter). I agree with the premise that there is a great story being told, but the rest of the post is not helping make that case.

The cabal are in the HoW

7 RespuestasSeparate story lines with minor connections have made Quentin Tarantino and millionaire and keeps Bibles flying off the bookshelf.
-
The story in Destiny is completely scattered, external lore doesn't change that. I love the game, but the story in vanilla was terrible.
-
Hive come out in Poe
-
Yes. Yes it is.
-
The story is great once you look into it, but it would be nice to have more of it ingame

Obligatory

"They were comunicating with someone outside of our solar system" - ghost We heard this 2x.... 1. In crota's shrine mission 2. When dealing with the cabal transmission on the dreadnaught.... 1. Already solved? Communicating to oryx, encountered oryx, killed oryx 2. This was about the cabal emperor....someone defeated that one yet? Right next to the future exo stranger, this story's yet to come

Destiny's story is so slow some people might die before finishing it lol

There's countless posts about how the traveller is the real threat and is keeping the guardians in the dark and using them as its own personal zombie army to dinghy all the threats coming after it. I wouldn't bee supposed in year 5 of destiny we learn the truth about everything. The veil of secrecy is lifted and guardians are able to learn the true story. Maybe we are kept in the dark with vague story to emphasize this. Or maybe I'm just a hopeless dreamer.

1 RespuestaIt has a shit campaign/cinematic story telling with a good plot. No real explanations for why we are doing what we are doing. Yes however the lore is very good but lore =/= story
-
The vex would be the one thing that could make me believe the lore is jacked up. Think about it, rise of iron is based solely around the fallen, so far involvement of the vex has not been talked about in any way. The vex are the biggest threat in the game, they can manipulate time, and even create different versions of reality. So, let's just forget about them and fight theses Dregs with peg legs! Come on now... I think that can wait.
