What the -blam!-?
I'm nearly out of space, and I don't want to delete my old game data. Why the -blam!- do games take up 50gb if I have the disk anyways? I don't really want to crack open my ps4 to modify the internal hard drive.
Any help would be appreciated here
EDIT: Thanks for the help, I'll be buying a 2tb Seagate hard drive and installing it soon.

If you ever need or want more than 2TB, you can get the NYKO Data Bank and use a PC hard drive. Its very easy to install too, and this YouTube vid will show how to install it.

Yeah super easy with Xbox - I got a 5 tb external hard drive....I guess it one thing Xbox has going for it over the PS4
-
Why? just delete anything you are not playing.
-
If you are online, you can delete the game without having to worry about game data as it goes to cloud saving.

Although you cant use an external hdd to play games you can backup your hard drive with an external hard drive. So when you do upgrade the internal hard drive just back it up with an external hard drive and you can install it all on the new hard drive using the backup

Editado por Braun700: 6/18/2016 12:44:52 AMBoth systems require you to download the game on to the system because it wouldn't run smooth if it was to use the disc. So this means that gaming has become about only licensing. Will you own a physical license or digital. Both have their pro's and con's. You can trade a physical copy or instead you can just hold all of your licenses in a cloud and not have to worry about flipping through a physical cd case. Now there are some rumors that Nintendo is planning to move away from discs and back to cartridges which will be able to be fast enough to run this high powered games (assuming they improve the tech) Ohhhh and I just have to say it: Disk is for magnetic media (floppy disks) Disc is for optical media (CD, DVD...)

1 RespuestaIt's stupid you can't use an external but you can upgrade the hdd storage rather easily. It just sucks that you'd have to reinstall everything.
-
Idk why ps4 makes you install games even if you have the disc, especially because you still have to put disc in to play the game. 1) you slide shiny part off to put new hdd in 2) deleting game data is no big deal, especially if you keep the save data. I usually platinum a game so that when I delete it, or I never play it.

1 RespuestaEditado por TommyG: 6/16/2016 8:12:19 PMOne of the PS4 flaws. It isn't difficult at all to upgrade the hard drive though, just annoying that you need to install everything again. I saw somewhere about a cable you can buy that allows the use of an external, but you need to plug it into the port where the internal hard drive is. Have a look here: https://youtu.be/5wZt8Ge1NyE

1 RespuestaIt's not hard to buy another 2tb ssd just stop -blam!-ing complaining

5 RespuestasEditado por moist nana: 6/17/2016 4:57:58 AMYou can't install games on an external hardrive, but if you have other things like screenshots, clips, music, movies, app data taking up room, you can move them all onto an external HDD or usb.

4 RespuestasIt's rather simple to upgrade your hard drive on a PS4. There's a myriad of guides on how to install a hard drive onto the PS4 on YouTube and whatnot. Just know that PS4 take 2.5 inch hard drives and not the standard 3.5 inch drives in most computers.

1 RespuestaIt's so -blam!-ing annoying how games are now 50 -blam!-ing gigabytes, when they used to be a couple.

Seagate momentous 2tb hard drive, easy installation and it works really well
-
I upgraded to a 2TB HDD. Its so easy to do.
-
I'd probably be salty if the process of upgrading your HDD wasn't so simple. I literally thought I'd -blam!-ed up because it was so simple and it only took 10 mins.
-
I can do that on my xbox.
don't kill me
The PS4 seems to have been designed to make replacing the hard drive easy and as listened in another reply the instructions are on the Sony support web site. Even when you get inside the early models have an obvious big screw with the PlayStation square, triangle, circle and cross on it to remove and I believe in the newer models the drive chassis just slides out. As also mentioned you need to be sure you get the right physical size if drive to fit but of course you can choose something like a hybrid SSD drive if you want.
