RNG
In the April Update Bungie said that most things would decrypt around your light, but I'm 305 and maybe 1 put of 20 engrams are equal to or above my light level. I mostly get stuff in the 280s. Is there something I'm doing wrong or is it just the RNG being bad?

Hello SpecterWolf959, Unfortunately it is working correctly, the April update "Legendary and Exotic drops from many sources now attempt to drop with Attack or Defense greater than your current character light level" really only applies to. I got a little confused about this as well but I'll help clear it up. first off, go here - https://www.destinythegame.com/aprilupdate If you didn't already know anyway, that has all the info you need. So a point of confusion, at least it was for me, was legendary engrams. I thought it was said they'd decrypt at your light level or higher, but it was legendary DROPS that would "attempt" to drop at your level (up to 330 I believe). Exotics always decrypt at your LL or higher now. Engrams usually decrypt in the mid 290's for me (at 333-335), occasionally I'll get a rare 300-310 legendary decryption.

2 RespuestasHey there, Decryption is a seperate outlet to getting higher level rewards as opposed to End Game Activities. For example, If you were to do King's Fall, those rewards would always be higher light level than 305. If you just decrypt engrams, there is no guarantee you'll get higher level rewards.
