This is something that has been on my mind for quite some time now. There were a few times where I began to write this, but found myself stopping because I didn't quite know how to word it. That was until earlier tonight when I came across this video from PAX. An interview with Digital Extremes regarding Warframe, a Free to Play game that has been going strong for 4 years now.
Honestly, the interview itself says it all.
No, I do not want Destiny to be Warframe. What I actually want, the purpose of this post, is that I wish for Bungie to be more like Digital Extremes.
Games are a reflection of those who make them. They represent your core principles and values. Warframe has continued to be a success, thriving with an ever expanding community. It only keeps growing, ever evolving. And its not like they HAD to create a Free to Play game, they WANTED to. Warframe draws from the creative power of its players, and the developer respects this. They rely upon it. Look at all of the different kinds of powers, abilities, weapons...everything. Just everything.
Here, to further push my point on all that here's a Twitch Stream for Angry Joe as he revisits the game for the first time since the friggen Alpha: https://www.twitch.tv/angryjoeshow/v/70214368
Destiny doesn't have any of this in it. Many of us feel dejected. There is a wall between us and Bungie, a barrier we can't seem to penetrate. And I don't mean Bungie as in Cozmo or Deej, because they don't really have any kind of actual say in anything. Community Managers need to be empowered by the company they serve, and its quite obvious that Bungie keeps both of them on a tight leash. Hell, its even a struggle to get simple questions answered.
You know, a while back I had proposed an idea called the "Guardian Council" to address a very serious and still ongoing problem here, which is the lack of quality communication between us and the developers. The general idea of it was to promote an actual two-way, progressive discussion between Bungie and the Community. Because at the end of the day, Destiny isn't a game FOR BUNGIE. Destiny is a game FOR THE PLAYERS.
Your community should always come first. You should always try to include your players as much as possible in the development process. But each update or "new thing" added always seems to demonstrate just how little Bungie actually knows what their players want or need.
For instance, the current hot topic around here are all these recent batch of nerfs. And this isn't anything new, either.
Its been 2 years now. TWO YEARS...
I don't even play anymore and even I can sympathize with all those who have to deal with this crap. And the most screwed up part about it is that they continue to stick with it. Stick with you. And despite this, you don't see fit to change? I mean seriously, me and the rest who decided to take a stand and protest by refusing to continue buying/playing the game do so because we want the game to change. We want YOU (Bungie) to change.
But even if you choose to ignore us? How the hell can you honestly ignore the others who beat themselves up, giving days and even months of their lives to your game? You keep them bound to you in this abusive relationship. And its not healthy for anyone.
The reason why people always say "Warframe is Destiny done right" is because it doesn't punish your loyalty. It doesn't make you feel like a jackass for investing time into it.
And don't even get me started on all the recent news from Bethesda, because that could all easily be its own post. I'm sure you already know damn well what I'm talking about with all that. I'll just put this here to further elaborate on that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xT3eAmu4FhQ
Destiny could be like that too. But before that can happen, YOU need to change yourself first. You need to stop thinking you know best and trying to consistently tell the community what we think when we already know damn well what we want. The studio desperately needs to stop being so cryptic and isolated. You don't need to sit there wondering if such and such will be popular or not, all you have to do is just come on here and be like "So hey, this is what we're thinking about doing" and just -blam!-ing include the community in things.
And if you can't figure out how to implement something? TALK TO US. Let us help you to help us.
Many of us still want all of our Year 1 Gear to come forward and stick with us throughout the life span of the game. We don't want to "leave it behind" which you decided was somehow best for us. Instead of imposing that decision on everyone, you could discuss with us how we could make that possible. Tell us where you stand on things, GIVE US YOUR FEEDBACK AND WE CAN COMPARE OPINIONS AND IDEAS TOGETHER. We can work to make this shit happen.
There's all manner of things that we can address and discuss to figure out. But unless you bring down that wall and let us in? Nothing will ever change.
Trust is very important. For many of us, you've lost that. You need to get it back. And you can't do that by continuing to ignore all the problems that have yet to be resolved. We don't care about shiny new toys or Destiny 2. We just don't, its not relevant. We care more about those issues that drove us away in the first place. The reasons that fractured our trust in you and made us turn our backs on Destiny.
If we didn't care? We wouldn't still be here.
Think on it.

I did grab the group name to use if anything ever came of it, and I still have it. You could argue that it is my job to organize this theoretical council. I thought about doing it myself, but figured that it would be considered "Bungie Controlled" and not really something that fully belonged to the community. So if you really want to do it I encourage you to get together and form a plan. Let me know when you have it ready and I will take a look. I obviously can't promise you insider information about development, but the council would have more direct access to me.

1 RespuestaHere here! I whole-heartedly agree with everything you have said! I love Destiny, but the devs seem to think that ignoring the players and making a game that is exactly what they want is what needs to happen. I agree that a game should stick to it's identity and not change its core aspects, but Bungie has made some really odd choices that from a business' and developers' viewpoints might make sense, but have only served to alienate the players. Warframe has micro-transactions, but they are presented as another aspect to acquiring items such as frames and weapons, so you get what you want and go from there. Destiny goes the way of having you pay for expansions that basically make everything obsolete unless they say otherwise. I'm all for ownership and rights to one's product, but there's ownership and then there's blatant manipulation of an ip. An example of this is with the Dead Space franchise which is about survival by: A. Knowing your enemy, B. Planning ahead, C. Managing your resources wisely, D. Understanding that not everyone likes survival horror because it is difficult and particularly gruesome, and E. You are alone! Instead the devs and EA made it into a horror shooter in the third installment in which you and a friend mow down whatever moves with your custom op gun, which completely destroyed the atmosphere the first 2 games created all in the name of tailoring more to a mass market; it didn't turn out well... I'm a little worried with Warframe now because of this new Rathuum addition that has substantially increased the grind for certain frames, making you want to buy them outright which was a poor decision on DE's part, but that is really the first bad decision in a long line of great ones so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt... for now! So, Bungie what's going on over there?

2 RespuestasI don't think anyone would argue Bungie needs to be more interactive with their player base. But Bungie is in a whole different realm than the Warframe folks. If Bungie alienates us now they'll still sell half a billion dollars worth of Destiny 2, what's their motivation?

If no one does it, in 2 weeks I'll just find a bunch of active reasonable community members and see who the forums would like most. I know Lost Sols had a pretty good following, so did Kabr and I'm sure there are plenty of others. It's not hard to do if you spend lots of time on here

7 RespuestasJust a disclaimer, AngryJoe was paid by DE to come back to the game, his video was sponsored, hence why he acted so excited about it. I play a ton of Warframe but the game isn't for everyone. There is no hand holding and you have to figure out a lot of what you need to do on your own or through outside research, which isn't a big deal if you've ever played any of the older MMOs when they used to just be niche PC games. The grind in Warframe can be pretty bad, especially when you get into the Void and start trying to acquire prime items. The loot table for them is so saturated now it can be really hard to get the things you want to drop and most of the time you just wind up having to trade for them. One thing I will give WF though is the devs do seem to somewhat care about the game and the community and are constantly adding new content and things to do. "Free" Updates on WF are often times in excess of 4-5 gigs and put Bungie's updates to shame. Overall they seem to be a fairly solid company that re-invests a ton of money from their cash shop proceeds back into the game, vs. Bungie who pockets it all for greedy Activision. It is kind of amazing a F2P can offer great gameplay and graphics while the AAAs are struggling to not put out garbage. Story and lore wise though, WF is probably a bit lighter than Destiny. Story in-game is practically non-existent save for a few quests and you have to manually scan enemies to unlock their codex entries which can be a pain in the ass. I honestly just enjoy the game because Mass Effect 3 multiplayer was one of my favorites and I love the 3rd person action with all the parkour. I can see though why some people, especially those not used to MMOs, wouldn't like WF and after awhile it does get as repetitive as Destiny.

4 RespuestasIts funny when Digital Extremes releases a patch. All i see is thank you posts for the most part. When Bungie releases a patch all i see is tears. This latest nerf patch to high rate Autos and to Hunter sticky grenade is bs. because Warlocks and Titans both have fusion grenades which stick to players and are basically a guaranteed kill.

7 RespuestasEditado por Unforgiven: 6/16/2016 2:23:23 PMI hate to sound toxic but someone has to say it. Bungie interviewed for E3 2016, Deej straight up lie that they listen and have communication with the community. They keep saying how they make our guardians more powerful. But in reality its a lie. They have done nothing but nerf our guns and abilities. Gjallarhorn is another example. They will release the Gjally but now its actually 1/3 the damage. And Deej said it will be just as powerful. No it won't. We know for a fact that Wolfpack rounds were nerfed. Bungie how can we believe anything you guys say anymore? Can you not give is consistent truthful information. Is that too hard? You guys know the reason why people talk so much shit about this game is because you guys are terrible at communicating with the fans. I haven't seen Deej talk to community in forever. Digital Extremes actually listens to feedback and makes changes almost the same week. Look at this latest Destiny patch how they are so off base as far as buffs and nerfs. The entire balancing patch broke more things than it actually fixed. Their excuse is always because people use one ability over the others. Or one weapon over another. People will always try to use the best weapons. Thats what makes the game fun. Why spend time playing the game if you are not going to work towards becoming more powerful. These constant nerfs piss me off. 2 cents

1 RespuestaReposted because it needs to be... Indeed! Digital extremes makes bungie look like a bunch of retarded interns. Not only have they actually improved the graphics, but content as well...and, all FOR FREE!? I almost hate to say it...all of what Digital Extremes has added to warframe, is almost too much! So much has been added to the game in the last year since I played it last that, I don't know where to start! They have listened to their customers and keep listening to their customers. I absolutely have no problems giving my money to a company who is OBVIOUSLY working for and listening to and respecting their customers to this degree! Bravo, Digital Extremes! Bravo!

Yo Mel Make the Council ((we could help)) make another post and inform all the big guys in #Feedback. Cosmo responded now let's make it happen. For the time being make a clan and we will start from there but don't give the names to anyone.

Perfectly said. I quit playing as well. My loyalty from beta has been abused by Bungie too many times.
