"Oh come on, I try to find a loophole for you and you deny the satisfaction? Come on, do you ever loosen up?"
English
-
"I do loosen up. On my free time. When I'm on the bridge, I do my job. What I'm paid for. Same goes for you and your friends, Drew." He says, calmly. "I can manage free time and duty very well. If you care, you'll come to know that." He smiles at her.
-
"Well, yeah but what are a couple of jokes going to do here? It's not like we're slacking off."
-
"Well, we can joke around if you want. But I'd rather avoid mutiny." He chuckles. "Especially on your first day. Doesn't set up a good track record." He moves his console aside, turning towards her. "I've told you a lot about me, but I haven't heard much about you. Mind telling me some more? I'd really love to get to know you."
-
"Oh, well you definitely look interested. Well, let me show you this really neat trick I can do." Drew turned to Derrick and held her hand up. Suddenly, her hand turned white as snow and a small ice sculpture of a star appeared on her hand. "Pretty neat, huh?"
-
He cocked his head back, smiling, his eyes widened. "That's impressive! Where did you learn to do that?"
-
"I don't know, I think I was born with this. It took forever to control, but I got the hang of it. I still can't fix my skin feeling really cold to other people. By the way, now that I mention it, your skin was pretty warm! Or was it just me?"
-
"Oh, my species is very warm-blooded. A whole 40 degrees." He smiles. "That's a really cool ability, Drew. No pun intended." He chuckles. "Cute and special... you're an amazing girl, you know."
-
Drew smiles, and even blushes a little. It's been a long time since someone has been so nice towards her. "Well, you're pretty cool too."
-
"Hey, if you still want to, we can bail from the bridge and I can show you my frame. It's about lunch time anyway, and the ship won't be leaving orbit in a few days." He smiles at her.
-
Drew chuckles after hearing Derrick's proposition. As nice as it sounded, she thought it would be better if they stayed in the time left. "You're pretty eager to show me your skills. But I think we should wait until it's officially lunch time. We were late anyways."
-
"Alright then." He swings back around in front of his consoles. For the next thirty minutes, the six newbies would get to know their stations better, the functionality of their consoles and whatnot, until lunchtime.
-
The thirty minutes fly by for some and walks by others at an agonizingly slow pace. For Drew, it was somewhere in the middle. She noticed exactly how much time passes, but it wasn't agonizing. In fact she enjoyed it. She set her console aside and turned to Derrick. "You said lunchtime was about to start and I wait thirty minutes? How does that work?"
-
"That works..." He finalises some presses on his console. "... because lunch starts right now." He smiles, getting up from his station. He turns to the captain. "Going for lunch boss, gonna take Anubis for a spin. Be sure to leave the ship parked while I'm out." "Of course, where would I go without ny helmsman." He chuckles, then Derrick turns to Drew. "Mind if I borrow you for an hour or so?"
-
"Sure. I'll finally get to find out what's a frame too." Drew stood up from her post and gave Derrick a smile. Then she remembered the captain was right there and the smile disappeared. "I mean, if it's alright with you captain?"
-
The captain smiled to them. "Go on, you two." Derrick walked her to the elevator at the back, which then descended the two of them down to the hangar bay.
-
Drew stood quietly in the elevator as it descended. There was still one burning question in her mind. What exactly is a frame? "Ok, this might sound a little stupid but what's a frame?"
-
He smiles. "Good question. Orbital Frames are giant mechs constructed using an extremely rare material called metatron. They show extraordinary abilities, speed, resilience and power. Since they are rare, only the most skilled of people can operate them. We are called runners."
-
"Soooo, what you're telling me is that you fly big fuсking robots?"
-
He laughs a bit. "Basically, yup." He smiles. "Mine is called Anubis."
-
"That... Is so cool!" Drew started squealing in excitement and squeezed Derrick as hard as she could.
-
He laughs some more, hugging her back. "Wait till you see him. And there's even room for two in the cockpit, so you can come with me on a little run." The elevator door opened to the singular hallway that led to the ventral hangar.
-
"Wait, two???" Drew got a little nervous. She started to chuckle and slowly walked out the elevator. "I don't- I don't think I should be your co pilot for a giant robot. I don't even know how to fly a regular ship!"
-
"Oh, you don't have to be co-runner. You can just sit and watch, enjoy the show." He smiles. They walked into the hangar, and there it was. Inside of the hangar were various different strike craft, maybe five or six squadrons but the main piece was the Frame standing at the end of the room. It was about forty feet in height, standing behind walkways and other platforms to reach the hulking, sleek machine. It's body often pulsated with red streaks of light, like a circulatory system. "There he is... Anubis."
-
Drew's jaw dropped as she saw it. She would've never thought she's see something like it before. While she beheld the frame, her worries grew considerably. "You want me to get inside of that?!"
-
"Well, what are you afraid of? I'll be piloting, so no worries." He walks towards it.
