This year, for the second year in a row, I gained weight. 15 lbs, to be precise - and it's definitely not muscle.
It's time for a change.
I'm not interested in bulking or getting ripped. I just want to lose the fat, get lean, and tone up. I want to be healthy.
To accomplish this goal, I'm completely overhauling my diet, taking cues from the Japanese (who are famously healthy and long-lived) and cutting animal flesh from my diet completely, except for seafood. I will also be controlling my portions strictly.
I'm not going vegan or even vegetarian. I will continue to consume fish & shellfish, as well as egg and milk products, but I'm cutting out land animals for a variety of reasons.
Breakfast - Oatmeal or granola cereal with a boiled egg, fruit & 2% milk. (I can't bring myself to cut milk from my morning routine, and skim milk is disgusting, so the 2% is my compromise.) This is actually the heartiest meal of the day.
Lunch - This will be the most controversial item on my list. NO LUNCH. I'm sure many of you are now thinking that I'm crazy to skip those mid-day calories. However, I will eat a mid-day snack at lunch time consisting of vegetables with peanut butter dip, Greek yogurt, or something similar. I will also drink at least two cups of green tea in the afternoon & lots of water.
Dinner - Fish or (occasionally) shellfish with brown rice or sushi, served with stir-fried or steamed vegetables, miso soup, and green tea. I will also experiment with rice bowl dishes that include egg and seafood.
Late Night Snack - Similar to my mid-day snack, but in smaller portions.
I've also made the difficult choice to give up alcohol entirely, especially beer (which I suspect has been the primary contributor to my weight gain), although I might start drinking again (in moderation) once I get back to a healthier weight.
I have every intention to maintain this new diet permanently. I want to live healthier overall, and a good diet regiment is a great way to start.
I should note that I will, of course, be exercising more frequently as well. Diet alone cannot shed this weight. Exercise is crucial. I have a daily jogging and strength training gym plan laid out.
I should also note that I will make an exception for Thanksgiving dinner, because that's a really big holiday in my family, and likely for other holidays as well, although I will still control my portions when I have those meals.
So let's see how long I can keep this up. Today is the first day. I've already had breakfast, but that hasn't really changed from what I used to eat.

1 RespuestaI've created what I call the passive weight loss diet. I did some research and found out that I passively burn 1750 calories a day without moving once. If I do 100 jumping jack a day, I bump it up to 1850. That means that if I eat less that 1850 a day, I lose weight. I basically do jumping Jack's in the morning and night, eat very little, and play games. I lose weight. It's incredible

Back in November I had the opposite problem, I was the scrawniest, lengthiest guy in the class. So i decided it was time for change. I started eating A LOT of food (It's all been very healthy, and it's a protein- based diet) and ive been working out every second day ever since then. Now im one of the biggest, strongest guys in my class.

2 RespuestasI'm doing the same thing, except for it's really hard to cut meat out because my family (I'm 15) eat like a bunch of obese people, red meat and starches every night plus ice cream and various sweets for desert. I know if I keep going with them I'll be huge.

No meat besides fish? That sounds terrible. Good luck though.

4 RespuestasEditado por Art Vandelay: 6/11/2016 2:05:03 AMAnimal flesh isn't making you fat. Its the over consumption of it that will do that to you. Also, skipping lunch isn't healthy. You won't even be getting your daily calories just to function normally. Just because you're losing weight doesn't mean its all fat you're losing.

5 RespuestasEditado por Cultmeister: 6/11/2016 9:21:22 AMBruh, the most effective way to lose weight is just to reduce portion sizes, stop snacking and exercise more. All this faffing around with cutting certain food groups out of your diet really only makes it harder for you, especially if you're used to eating it a lot. Same with skipping lunch - that's a terrible idea. You'll just end up more hungry and start to snack more between meals in order to feel satisfied, and snacking is one of the worst contributors because people don't think it counts much towards their overall food consumption.

Swimming is one of the best types of exercise as it stretches and strengthens all muscles evenly. Good sport to try if you are interested in losing weight and getting fitter.

Skipping lunch is a bad idea. It'll leave you hungry and irritable, and you'll have less willpower to stick to your diet. Have a bowl of rice or noodles instead
