The electoral college does just what you said is was made to avoid. I am politically a minority in my state and voting district and I will NEVER get vote to count as a result of the electoral college system of voter area representation as they always stick with what the majority in my area pick. The electoral college aids in eliminating the opinions of the few in favor of promoting the opinions of the majority. The political corruption that arises from having two parties hellbent on simply redirecting voting districts to sway who the representative votes in their favor does nothing but belittle american citizens, but will continue to exist until EVERY vote gets counted and not simply the votes for the majority.
