question about ghosts reviving guardians..

so all guardians have ghosts, right? and if you die, your ghost revives you. but how would a guardian actually die, as in permanently? I'm sure there's an answer but I've never come across it and the people I've asked never seem to know. (also hope I'm posting in the right forums) anyway, I was thinking maybe if a guardian's ghost is destroyed before they can revive, then maybe the guardian would die for good. also, what happens to the body when you die (and you're wait for the revive, you know, when your body just kind of dissolves/fades into nothing) AND what would happen to the body if it was a so-called "permanent" death, since usually the body just disappears after a few seconds??????

  • Don't let anyone overcomplicate things. There are two ways a guardian can be perma killed: 1. Drain it of light (INSTAKILL) 2. Remove ghost (slow kill. They will survive without it but if killed without ghost that's a wrap)

    • My understanding is that for a guardian to be killed, the ghost must die. As an interesting back up to this theory, the next time you're in the cabal room of CoE, head to the middle platform. Hanging from what looks like a jump ship are tons of ghosts. There's also a pile of dead ghosts in that room.

    • There was a theory that when guardians die they go to an ascendant relm, like the hive. So when the ghost revives, he pulls you from the ascendant relm to the real world.

    • Also, if one could "drink" the light from a guardian, there is nothing the ghost could do to bring him/her back. As is with Pahanin Eratta and Thalos (sp? the titan crucible champion). Dredgen Yor killed both of them, as well as Jaren Ward, while his ghost was still alive. <3 Thorn lol

      • To perm entry kill a guardian you must somehow kill the ghost. We know ghosts can die we find dead ones throughout the game. If the ghosts dies then the next time the guardian falls they can't be brought back easy as that. For example during the nightstalker mission we find that ghost but his guardian still seems to be alive but does shortly after because the vex thrashed him. However just because a ghost dies does not mean the death of the guardian Eris lost hers after all and is still alive.

      • I'm wondering if each guardian is "assigned" one ghost, and can't get another after that, or if maybe a guardian could go to extreme lengths to get a replacement if theirs was destroyed..?

        • Guardians are already dead, centuries ago. This means that we can't die from natural causes (disease or old age). We can die from unnatural causes (suicide, death by dregs), but in most areas, our Ghost can "recharge" our light (since we are powered by light, kinda like a machine is powered by batteries. Without light, we die), and revive us. However, there are "darkness zones". In these areas, there is so much darkness snuffling out the light, our ghost can't "recharge" us. If we die here, then we die forever. Of course, since it is a game, we are allowed to restart from a checkpoint. Also of course, our ghosts can die, and they can't be revived. Without our ghosts, we only have 1 life, no revives. The perfect example is Tevis, the Nightstalker. He and his ghost got separated when he went into the Black Garden. His ghost died near the gate lord portal. As a result, Tevis was unable to get a fresh pair of double A batteries to recharge himself when he himself died later, as only the Guardians ghost can revive it's own guardian. #TitanMasterRace

          • Think of Eris Morne. Her entire team was wiped out. They lost their ghosts so they weren't able to be revived. Eris lost hers as well but she stayed alive. Also, during the mission Paradox you see Paedyth's body as a skeleton. So I assume your player was a skeleton that was brought back by your ghost's light.

          • Notice that some areas are called darkness zone, why? The ghosts use the light of the traveler to revive dead gaurdians. If an area is so strong with the darkness it blocks the traveler light then a death will be unrevivable by that gaurdians ghost. In these darkness areas the only way to revive is by using the light of another gaurdian. If all gaurdians die then that's it game over "wipe" the darkness consumed you. But it's a game so it lets you retry but in game lore that gaurdian you were playing was finished.

            • I think you can revive as long as your ghost is around, destroy that and you're done. Also, I always felt we couldn't revive ourselves in high end activities because the Darkness is too strong there thus requiring aid from players and not being able to revive at all in hm raids. Just my speculation.

              • I believe that Gaurdians are kind of like the Force (StarW). BUT! The Traveler is sort of the one tasked with the resposibillties (Obligation?) of choosing a new (or used) Gaurdian from some sort of Gaurdian soul pool, or stream, or what have you, that emits light (Gaurdians are good, hence the light) amongst the things that are dark. SOOO.. Back to the "Force" reference. I think that Guardian souls, or light, can be consider like an energy, And as we know energy cannot be created or destroyed. Only transferred. When a Guardian's vessel ceases to live, the soul never actually dies. The soul/light is placed back into rotation until the right vessel for a specific soul can be found. As I would imagine that those souls are unique. Also about ghosts, they are referred to in a cinematic clip in destiny as "little light". Meaning it is a piece of the Traveler. I think when a vessel is found a ghost is tasked with seeking it out. When the ghost is sent for a vessel I feel like the ghost is transporting the soul/light from the stream to the vessel. Now that ghost and Guardian are connected to one another. So when a Guardian is down it's ghost will always come to the aid. BUT!!! When the ghost resurrects it loses a part of his soul. After so long the ghosts become exhausted, it's soul is eventually dwindled to nothing. AND that's how Guardians are born, live, die, and repeat. Clearly this is my own opinion.I thought about the question as I smoked a blunt in a state of pure contemplation. I feel that is somewhat plausible lmao

              • Body dissolves when ghost is alive because ghost transmats body and gear. When ghost is dead, body would just stay there. Anything else?

A guardian is merely a dead thing powered by light. Its ghost is a conduit between it and the light. The ghost survives off light, and feeds some to its guardian. This allows the guardian to have all their abilities (regeneration, dexterity, agility, grenades, supers, etc) If you drain a ghost completely of its light however; it is gone. Now the guardian no longer has any of their abilities, and next time they die is the last. (The only way to drain a ghost of its light is by an immense amount of darkness feeding on it with no light to replace what has been stolen)

                    • Usually the Ghosts has to be destroyed for a Guardian to die permanently, but in the case of Jaren Ward, he died and his Ghost wasn't able to revive him, saying 'his light is fading' I don't know if light fades if a Guardian isn't revived in time and his Ghost couldn't get to him because of Dredgen Yor, or if he was just fading on his own and there wasn't enough light to work with

                    • Yes if a guardians ghost is lost/ killed the guardian cannot be revived. I think it's in the grimoire where Eris speaks to the queen and she says she doesn't have a ghost, the next death will be her last.
