Bungie I've had it.

I'm going to start here by saying that I loved this game. I've been a loyal consumer of your products for the last 7 plus years. Today I am seriously considering ending that journey. I wake up today looking forward to knocking out some dailies etc, to find out that I'm restricted from crucible for a week and from Trials for a month! "Unstable internet connection" being the so called reason. I pay a lot of money for 100 meg down and 20 meg up. I've done my research, and have my network set up correctly. There are NO ISSUES with my internet connection. I have ZERO problems connecting to and playing other games. Just yours. Crucible is a joke. This is the only online shooter I've played where I've seen these kinds of issues. Honestly, I don't particularly enjoy playing crucible. But guess what? You consistently FORCE players to play it if they want to progress their characters! Want that FWC exotic? Gotta grind crucible. Want to do the whole sword quest line that started in PVE? Gotta grind crucible. Want to get max light when you cant get a raid group together? Crucible. I've relented since your game came out and played crucible when I've had to for the loot etc. I never cheated, never will cheat. For the record, if I did; I think my K/D would be a lot better. I'm an average player, I have good games and bad games. Apparently none of that matters. Enough people bitch and you just ban people? Cause I gotta say, everyone I know has connection issues. It's not us ITS YOU. It's your joke of a net code, and your stupid peer to peer system instead of dedicated servers. This really sucks, because I've loved playing this game. I loved the lore (even though I have to go to youtube for it to make any sense). I loved the experiences of doing the raids with my friends. Now it's all been marred for fear of being banned for something I'm not doing. The most infuriating thing about this whole experience is the fact that you give ZERO info to the supposed offender. I'm having network problems? How? What kind? Is it my ISP or my home network? WHATS THE ISSUE?!?! Nope can't be bothered to tell a paying customer. We'll just restrict them and give them no feedback so they can fix the problem. Guilty and unable to prove innocence huh? Don't bother giving me the same garbage link to your network troubleshooting guide. I've read it. You've lost me. Edit: Just want to say thanks to everyone who's been so supportive. I've had some time to reflect and calm down a bit, and while I still stand my everything I've said above; I'm nowhere near as ready to quit as I was then. I don't enjoy Crucible. I have the rare streak when I'm having a good time with my friends, but that's about it. So I think I'm just done with Crucible. I'll keep playing the PVE with my daughter, because we both enjoy it. I'll see where this new DLC in the fall takes things. If it's mostly PVP then they can keep it. If not I'll consider getting it. Destiny 2 however I may not get. Mass Effect: Andromeda will have hit by then and I'm sure I'll be playing the multiplayer in that instead. ME3's multiplayer was one of the most satisfying experiences I've had in a game to date.

  • I'm not sure if you've tried this, but could you do a network test from your console or a computer (if your console won't allow it) while playing Destiny in a match making activity (preferably the Crucible)? This would help us figure out how much your latency changes, if at all, when playing Destiny. As others have pointed out, having multiple people on your network can also be an issue.

Yepp, it's the stupid P2P hybrid like netcode they use. Massive games like that should use dedicated servers. You can't just put all that on the client side, to save money, and expect that everything runs fine. A reason why I avoid Crucible as much as I can. Games like Overwatch run soo damn smooth online, has 60fps (which is a massive job for any netcode/server to handle) and is a 6on6 game. Playing it since release and to my surprise I NEVER experienced a latency/lag problem not even at launch. Same with games like Battlefront, which is a large scale shooter running at 60fps. All of them using dedicated servers and the problems are soooo little. And I never hear someone complain about massive problems.. And now look at Destinys PvP. Constant boots for no reasons, red/yelllow bars everyhwere, even when nothing is going on, and a netcode which allows P2P cheating methods (IP booting, host bridging) abused by all the Trials cheaters. Also, what I noticed quite some time ago is, that the network code has massive problems compensating lag/issues (which are always present in online games no matter to which degree) between more than 6 players. It's absolutely rdicolous that any 3on3 mode runs almost perfectly fine and any 6on6 crucible mode has terrible problems keeping players connections in a state for an acceptable experience. Prime example is Iron Banner, people always play when it is online and we all hear people joke about..."Iron Lag". That should be a sign for Bungie. When you check other players connections you see that nearly every 6on6 mode has at least 2 or 3 yellow/red bar players... It's just another sign of that Destiny was never meant to be a +6 player per session game (and why Destiny was originally planned to have no versus multiplayer at all AFAIK) and why it doesn't even support basic Versus features like private matches. Even in the tower, with 16 players, where nothing actually happens, people can yellow and red bar like crazy. I never ever experienced such a weird behavior in other games during my +20 years of gaming history. Sure, the more player the bigger the problems can be, but why is PvE running relatively smooth in a Raid with all the stuff going on and suddenly you g into crucible and the game can't even handle a single map with 12 players...are you kidding me? Battlefield has like, what, 64 players per match and runs ok in comparison to Destiny? Why? How can this be. From a consumer perspective this is absolutely unacceptable. It's beyond ridiculous that a 2014 game still uses a P2P like system. Why this is even a thing in the year 2016 is beyond me. Players here did their work, have everything set up and yet they experience problems when other games just run absolutely smooth and fine on their side. That's clearly a sign of bad networking from Bungies side. And people here constantly telling others that it MUST be a problem on their side are pathetic. Yes, Bungie started to to develop this game during Halo Reach times where P2P was still a thing and relatively common, but c'mon you just can't come up with a game like Destiny and then use this excuse of an netcode to make it somehow run for everyone 3 years later at launch. Dedicated servers existed back then for a long time and the game should have been optimized for that technology. I really hope Destiny 2 improves here. That should be Bungie's first thing to work on IMO.

      • It's your latency that's the issue. DM a ninja or mentor in order to establish some sort of communication with bungie. See if you can sort everything out :/ but other than that, idk

          • It's not a bandwidth issue, it's latency. 4mb adsl will work, but nothing will work well if there is latency. You may have the bandwidth to allow multiple people to use the internet connection in your home, but that still creates more latency as the router decides which packets to send where. You've been upgrading bandwidth for years but still use the same cables (oxidized connectors). Doing your research means investigating latency too.

Download speed is good, but your upload speed is dreadful. 20 is very low, and your end does have to upload your consoles data to the Servers. However, neither of these numbers really matter a prospect called 'latency' is what matters. Basically, the further away and the more modules that your ethernet has to go through can cause issues and increased milliseconds when connecting to servers. For example, if you have a Modem hooked in to your wall jack, and then have a Router hooked to your Modem, and then have your One/PS4 wirelessly hooked to your Router, there are a lot of buffers your packets have to pass through in order to reach the server, which will increase your latency(ms). As an example, while playing Destiny (Crucible), my One has an average latency of 72ms(Ping). This is about the average for most players based on distance and modules. Average latency for most online games is usually between 40-70, anything under 40 is good, but generally anything over 80 is a problem, especially if it starts reaching the 100+ area. Edit: If this is the only online shooter you've played with connectivity issues, regardless of P2P or Dedicated, then you must have only played Destiny.

                          • I think it is a latency issue, there is no way the game sends enough data to affect speeds like yours. It is a broken peer to peer model that amplifies many small latency issues in each node. Dedicated servers would minimize that. PvP is currently implemented in many games without these issues. I hear Overwatch is pretty much entirely problem free. But expect a parade of idiots that are about to blame you for your shitty internet connection and rant about keeping red bars (i.e. everybody) out of the crucible.

Same shit bro logged in yesterday and banned from trials for 2 months and crucible for 2 weeks. Check my kd and game history as well fir trials I have some good games and more bad. However I dont cheat at video games, as I dont know how to. Up until yesterday when I started googling lag switching cause I wanted to know more since im banned for a supposed laggy internet connection. I seriously thought lag switching was somehow lagging to the point that my opponents lag switched to me and made me lag lmao, I had no idea the switch part of it came from using a light switch to basically stop the data flow for small periods of time. I also didnt know that a player can ddso attack another players ip address to get them to disconnect. I joined a dude from the forum looking for ppl and said he would carry if needed. Thats great cause I cant get into very many good trials groups with my shitty trials kd. I mean you basically have to have gjally for a cock and a 1800+ elo with a 2.0 kd to get in a good group. So I guess the guy that I was in a group with ddso attacked in 4 of the 8 matches making ppl disconnect. First off I didnt even know it was possible to do that I just figured its monday most ppl in the US are off work and more ppl r playing. They must have disconnected cause I reported them for red barring, power went out, quit, or maybe mommy or daddy made them quit playing. I get kicked from time to time and actually got disconnected earlier that day on a 6-0 card and agian later that night. I just thought the game was -blam!-ing up. So now im banned for someone else cheating that I was not aware of for 4 games. I now can almost guarantee that the same shit happened to me and just thought its destiny and I got kicked. I pay for the best internet time warner has to offer. So instead of researching and seeing I am not a cheater, they ban me for something I didnt even know was possible, then blame my internet connection and provide no feedback after posting on here asking bungie why. The only reason I have the info I do is from community members telling me about the ddso attack thing. Bungie get your shit together smh. Plus my trials kd is prob so shitty from pvp being broken and cheaters. I keep playing even though I have to deal with invincible players running off the map into the sunset, teleporting like an oryx ogre, making me disconnect, and lag switching.

Or some random issue that caused your internet to crap out for a game or two. No. It has to be cheating. Because there is no way that Bungie's servers are anything but the best. They never lag or cause any issues for anyone. If you're red bar then you're obviously cheating. [spoiler]Really though reading your post has aggravated me to the fullest extent. How the hell can they do this to you without providing any evidence of the offense? Do they even have any? Or did a bunch of whiners just report you because they were butthurt and now you're banned?
