So, the tower orders guardians to destroy this weapon on site. I have a theory that the weapon cannot be destroyed and upon attempting to destroy it, it possesses you and changes you. There are exactly 9 supposed guardian deaths marked on the Red Death. And Xur is an "agent of the nine". Could be a coincidence but who knows! What if the vanguard wants you to destroy it because it could grant you immense power. Somewhere between light and dark.....there are the nine guardians.... who once were weidlers of the Red Death......forever changed.... Edit: Thank you to everyone who had positive feedback.
