There are three factions in Destiny, Dead Orbit, Future War Cult, and New Monarchy. Dead Orbit: A faction who believes that Earth and surrounding system is lost. They desire to salvage anything from our past and spoils of war to construct a fleet, which will take them far, far away. They think that is the only hope for our race, the human race, to survive. To scatter ourselves so thoroughly among the stars that no enemy will ever wipe us out. They have gone very far to achieve this and has had failures that have contested many people their lives. They flew into the Reef-area to salvage a small-outpost's resources, the catch was, they didn't let the Vanguard know about it. So they flew there, then were attacked by Awoken, who crippled their ship, and watched them die for about a week. One of the victims told a ghost to wipe the excursion from the records of Dead Orbit, so that they not know the team's failure. Future War Cult: The oldest of all the known and active factions, the Future War Cult believe that there will always be war against the Darkness. So their ideal is to just keep fighting, hacking away, and researching a possible way to claim victory. They came to this way of thinking by putting people into a machine then recording what they see, which causes said people to go insane. They would describe what they machine showed them, which was absolute darkness, the City/Tower crumbling and burning, and just it sucking in general. (There is also a rumor that Red Death was made by a mad guardian in FWC to kill guardians in the Tower. When the guardians died, they couldn't be able to respawn... Soooo Yeah) New Monarchy: The New Monarchy believe in making the City a better place and putting a Monarch (King/Queen) in charge to better rule the City. The current system of leadership is the the Speaker "ruling" with the Consensus. The Consensus is the group of factions and the Vanguard being in a sort of council that works with the Speaker to find what is the best for our race as a whole. New Monarchy believes that this way is not efficient and a monarchy would better fit the city. New Monarchy lives by Seven Tents that exist to benefit the City in the best manner. Their Seven Tenets: "1. To secure our walls against the enemy without. 2. To secure the rights and liberties of every upstanding citizen. 3. To sponsor the sciences of the City, and to salvage the ruins beyond, so that our Golden Age might be reborn. 4. To support the Guardian Orders by leading the City in technological innovation. 5. To support the natural harmony of the City, and to actively dissuade any group or individual that might disrupt that harmony. 6. To hold all individuals, compacts, and alliances to the highest standards of productivity and right behavior. 7. To, by vote of the Consensus, abolish the Consensus, and transfer ultimate power, in order that the rights and liberties of all citizens be secured, to a single sovereign of unimpeachable character." I, personally, side with New Monarchy for a variety of reasons that I strongly believe. One of which are the other factions, Dead Orbit and Future War Cult. Dead Orbit are making a huge gamble on building a fleet and running away. Many of my friends who are Dead Orbit Supporters say that once we leave the Darkness has no need for us anymore, it only wants the traveler. Which sounds good in theory, but if you look the different enemy races in Destiny, they don't really follow the/a "Darkness." The Cabal can blow up moons, planets, and other various LARGE objects, so if we ran, who says that they won't follow/conquer us? The Hive and Fallen want us dead out of vengeance for the deaths of their countless comrades, and the Vex have a plan for us. If they didn't have a plan we would not exist. Plus, if we just packed up and left, we wouldn't have that much of a strategic advantage, we would be virtually defenseless and vulnerable. If we even traveled forever, our enemies have warp/dimensional/time travel transportation so its not like we could run. I don't like FWC because their ideals make them want to win at all costs, so to beat the enemy, you must become the enemy. Eventually, we'd all turn into savages that only know war, so even if we did beat the Darkness, what would happen? If there is no enemy left to kill when there are a lot of blood-crazed guardians around, we'd end up fighting each other, effectively wiping ourselves out. Now, New Monarchy want to repair and help the city, support the sciences, make sure everyone has rights because even in a time like this, the literal apocalypse, people will steal lie, cheat , and steal. Now, the controversial part, the monarchy itself, the way I see it, the whole thing is a gamble, but if we choose a good leader, they would lead the city to peak efficiency and we could beat the Darkness. If we set up and fueled weapon factories and laboratories, we could replicate or enhance Golden Age technologies. That is what I believe, tell me what you believe in... Who is your favorite?
