It's 2016 it's about damned time Disney introduced a gay character. Gay boys and girls need to grow up with representation of their sexuality in the media they consume so their feelings can be validated and they can know from a young age that being gay is absolutely okay. As a gay woman I can't even begin to tell you how alienating it was to grow up in a society where I had no exposure to other gay people. I knew I liked girls from a very young age but there were no characters on TV I could relate to. We're not looking to turn everyone gay, we just want fair representation. One gay Disney princess is still only a drop in the ocean compared to the number of heterosexual characters in TV and film. It's not asking much.
