So I'm 26, have a solid, good paying job. A beautiful, smart wife. Good friends and family. But I drink like a damn fish. It's a constant binge. I drank a fifth of vodka last night like it was water.
I know this isn't an aa meeting, just looking for some encouragement or how others may have quit drinking

This is a very difficult habit to quit. The first thing you can do is to limit drinking to the weekends, for awhile, and then just to one day per week, and then eventually not at all or just socially. In order to cut back initially, I've found it helps to replace the drink with a strong non alcoholic drink, like a potent herbal tea, made in advance and kept in a pitcher in the fridge. Or one of the legit spicy ginger ale sodas like red rock or buffalo rock. Those are pretty stiff and feel similarly satisfying to drink in the same way beer does. Cutting back on drinking by yourself, or being the only one around with a drink helps to start. It's not going to work well if you just quit, telling yourself you won't ever drink again. But if you have a drink to look forward to on your cheat day it will make quitting altogether much easier when you're ready to. Exercise helps a lot, too. Weight lifting, running, boxing a heavy bag, jump rope, etc. Get in the habit of doing some strenuous exercise early in the morning so drinking isn't as necessary to wind down at night. You'll be tired already, and sooner than you expect, you'll be looking forward to the early morning workout. Keep at it for a couple of days so the habit takes hold though because it's really easy to quit exercising on the first few days.

Stop completely and make your tolerance nothing. If you know you have a problem don't buy any alcohol. You have to care enough to do it. Caring is hard, so allow your wife and others motivate yourself to care. It's hard to care by yourself.

Drink water instead

Cheers! Here is a Boilermaker! Good luck on quitting.

Don't do it alone. Share your fears about your alcoholism with someone close. It will be uncomfortable but you won't stop on your own. If you're coming to the Internet for help, you need actual help. If you can't motivate yourself to not drink, you're addicted. It's so much easier to quit with help.

Ask your doc for an antibiotic I think it's called metronidazole! They use something similar to treat alcoholics! A few sips & you feel tipsy & quite ill! It puts you off till it's out of your system then it's down to will power ;)

6 RespuestasFirst of, why do you drink? If you can identify why then maybe you can figure out a way to stop.

Ease off the vodka and drink something a tad more social and enjoyable, like craft ale.
