Yeah. I can simply join an ending nightfall or be afk in crucible, or even trade in a few motes to a new faction and get 32 strange coins in a day. Yeah, I "[u]earned[/u]"them didn't I?
Whilst three of coins is double rng. I have to grind out the engrams and have to wait for rng to actually give me a chest engram and actually have to wait for it to decrypt to the exotic I want. That is true earning

Getting a drop or buying them from xur isn't neither way earning it, if it was from a quest then yes you "earned" it
