Snipers in year 1 were no where near as dominant as they are now in year 2, not...even...close. Because there were hard counters that could shut them down. Thorn could put enough burn on them to descope and find cover. Mida could knock them back and jar their scope hard enough they'd have to draw their primary to stand a chance. Shotguns could creep behind a hard scoping camper and wreck him. Fushion rifles had range enough to shut them down around corners. Hard hitting pulse rifles like hopscotch pilgrim and the messenger could double tap them from strong range and make them think twice about laying back in that sniper ally.
Aim assist isn't new, snipers like 1kys have always been in the game and the people that are great with them were great then, and will continue to be great in the future. But the fact remains that there are just not the same options available to counter snipers. Also there aren't enough viable options to use in your special slot when compared to a sniper. Lousy range, slow firing, slow moving shotgun... or high aim assist snap shot 1 hit kill sniper, it's no wonder what the community has chosen.
Edit- thanks for all the comments and feedback. To any of you that think this post is asking for nerfs or to even change the mechanics on snipers, that is not( I repeat IS NOT) what I'm driving at. Snipers shouldn't be the only viable secondary simply because they've nerfed the other options available. Just as mida shouldn't be one of the only viable primaries because the rest have been nerfed and "balanced." They need to rebalance by improving weapons that are lagging, not destroying those that are succeeding.
Edit 2- Cosmo or Deej, want to weigh in here?

Editado por HyperVigiIant: 5/4/2016 4:12:06 PMBungie like to nerf any primary weapon with a decent TTK. I've always hoped that my lower impact snipers could res-snipe so I can use my favourite snipers in Elimination mode. Bungie has now buffed res-sniping precision damage on lower impact snipers and increased target acquisition on low zoom scopes. Even before the changes, it was a no-brainier to use a weapon with zero weapon sway that can one shot at any distance.

Finally someone who actually understands shit

2 RespuestasSnipers ain't one shot to kill. Most don't, even Eirene with the the highest impact of any, and it's getting absurd to believe it's any one type of weapon that is owning. Here is a list of everything usable: Doctrine Hawksaw Last word Hawkmoon Conspiracy 1000yard Mida and jade (all scouts have always been balanced) Sidearms (to my those are pretty OP but I don't care) Fusions (mediocre but I have friends that wreck with them) So if you think about where the game is right now, it's never been more balanced. Quit trying to look for one weapon to blame. It's racist

3 RespuestasEvery other special weapon (except sidearms) have received multiple nerfs, except snipers. I wouldn't call the most recent changes made in the update nerfs to snipers. Ambush and short gaze when from 4.5 times zoom to 4.9. Longview went from 5 times zoom to 5.2. A slight reduction in overall zoom time to both snipers as a whole and snapshot is nothing compared to the overall changes of shotguns and fusions. This is why we have a sniper META. When you nerf something, the community typically moves to the weapon class that hasn't been touched.

15 RespuestasEditado por Enderium: 5/1/2016 5:04:05 AM1) Shotguns are still effective, and currently balanced. 2) Mida is still perfectly viable, but you can't play god and give people seizures. 3) Fusions are in a good spot. 4) Thorn was brutally over powered with it's 2-tap capability. If you don't think so, you should have seen me use one.
I hated using Thorn, but it was the only counter to another Thorn.
5) Pulse rifles are in a good place. The way I see it, you're butthurt because of your weapons getting nerfed. Maybe you should "adapt".
I hate people who say "git gud", or "adapt", but for crying out loud, read in between the lines.
Year one did not have damage drop off besides autos. That's why snipers didn't excel except in trials where it wasn't as much of a scourge due to that until ttk. However I want a slower primary ttk. Right now the problem is snipers are too forgiving. The mechanics are easily abused with drag scoping. We need a decrease in aim assist and the best solution I think would be manual recentering. Right now flinch is barely a factor because you'll auto center right away combine that with the aim assist and headshots off the recenter constantly outgun primary headshots.
-
We have a sniper meta because of 2 things. 1. Fusion rifles other than the Vex have been a joke overall since launch day. 2. With the continual unneeded nerfs to shutgun usability, you are better off sniping than being aggressive in PvP. All bungie had to do to balance shotguns was reduce the base range for all shotguns across the board, and lower the benefits of Shot Package by 50%. But instead they pull SP from the game, increase the ads time, increase the swap speed to shotties, reduce movement speed while using a shotty, etc. Which not only didn't accomplish what they wanted, but also made them so pitiful for use in PvE, I do more damage to enemies by punching them with an uncharged melee. Not even kidding, for low level enemies EVERY pellet must hit my target to kill them while I can one shot them with a normal, uncharged melee from my titan.

Cuz it's a one shot kill pretty much is why people use it lol

Buff mein handcannons

4 RespuestasThe only way to effectively balance the game is buff TTK on all primaries equally so we can counter special weapons effectively without destroying the raid and nerf some more weapons.
-
I swear this is the hottest topic for no damn reason. You look at EVERY fps. People always drift toward sniper rifles, but If I play a game mode like clash...I see all sorts of secondaries. I see snipers mostly in trials (and I get it)....people don't want to take the big risk of getting up close to snotty or fusion. Its the game mode. At this point in destiny, there are barely any more casuals. Its mostly try hard sweats. I'm not surprised people use snipers.
-
While I agree with you I also blame map design cuase to meny of the map favour sniper rifes, and spawning with speaical bad idea that just incourages them to snipe from the start instead of runing around and having battles for the ammo boxes and only having on heavy at 5 min bad choice everyone has there super and it is just who ever did not used it will get the heavy it really is some bad choices which were the wrong choices to do in pvp.
-
I agree that they nerfed everything down and that sucks but sniper meta is over now, for most of it atleast, they buffed fusions and nerfed snipers little, now ppl use different weapons depending on map, some maps all i see is shotguns, u are little late on this post

Bungie wants in on e-sports. Snipers are heavily used in e-sports. Gives the illusion of and feeling of clutching & skill. So bungie pushes the sniper meta to try and draw the e-sports players here. "You like sniping. Play this. High AA, drag scoping, hell we will even hold people in place so you can snipe them again if they get revived." It's shameful. If bungie wants e-sports they need to SPEND THERE OWN MONEY to hold events. Once it catches on sponsors will take over and foot the bill. Tryin to FORCE e-sports will never work, at least not with out some back room shady deals.

2 RespuestasHere's why we have Sniper meta: Sandbox Designer Jon Weirznewski was killed by a running shotgunner when aiming down his sights, he was ticked off and decided to make shotguns unusable in crucible, thereby destroying the balance between sniping and CQC Because Jon Weirznewski man, Jon...Weirz...Newski...

13 RespuestasSnipers are still broken as hell. I'm over her doing everything I'm supposed to do as a shotgunner: watching corners, staying in close quarters, not going into sniper lanes when BAM a sniper rounds the corner, just out of shotgun range for a one hit kill and snipes me with an easy head shot. He leaves the match with a sliver of health and proves once again that snipers make better shotguns than a party crasher +1.

15 Respuestaswhen shot while ADS should pull you out of your scope, solves a lot of issues
-
Here's the thing, you bring back primaries like TLW/Thorn and two bursting high impact archetype PR's, and people will just go to complain about those all over again. People do not understand that this is the closest we've ever been to having balance since the game launched. I'd personally love primaries to go back to how it was during HoW, but the playerbase can't handle that either.

28 RespuestasSnipers have never been hard to use. They have always been able to quick scope easily and have been effective at close to medium ranges. The fact that they go down the middle every time, don't flinch at all when shot by anything, and have aim assist that triggers when you start ADS makes them OP. You also say that it had counters in Y1. These hard hitting weapons (Thorn, Mida) where hard hitting in all gunfights, not just against snipers. Thorn would hit people when aiming 3 ft away from them and kill in 2 shots. This weapon could also hit at sniper ranges causing this to be like what snipers are now. Mida was OP because of all of its stats excelling, the added side to side sprint while ADS, and heavy hitting impact rounds. The weapon was better than every weapon with its stats, added agility that made enemies find it hard to actually hit you, adding stagger rounds to the mix, and while all of this makes getting hit near impossible, the weapon has very high aim assist and accuracy stats. Now that these OP weapons are balanced (Mida pretty much only got a napkin put in front of its barrel), Snipers are still reigning supreme. They have close range scopes and have no problem competing and dominating close range and medium range gunfights against primaries. One proposal could be to make the minimum magnification be 10x. Snipers are meant for long range gun fights and not to be used at close range. Extending the range would make it easier to snipe at range, but making it extremely difficult to snipe at close range. There would still be a problem with quick scoping, but it would eliminate the problem of short range hard scoping while also buffing long range sniping. Even so, there are so many different solutions to the close range sniping problem, but the problem still persists after 1.5 years. Something needs to be done because literally everybody can effectively snipe at close range. Don't believe me? Go check the stats for weapons used. Mida is the top primary and 1000yrd is the top secondary. And it's not by just a few, it's a complete blowout. Everyone and their brother use snipers because it's way too easy. Just increase the amount of effort it takes to snipe and it won't be a problem. Look what has been done to Shotguns and Fusion Rifles (No I'm not just a person who doesn't snipe, I use whatever I feel like at the time). They used to be OP and took no effort just like snipers. Now, Shotguns take a lot of effort to use (except when camping in a corner) and Fusions even more. Even the Sidearms are in competition with Shotguns and Fusions. Snipers are a problem and need to be fix, it's as simple as that. I'm seriously going to laugh when people start commenting and saying "You main a Hunter" (completely false; look how much time I have played on the other 2), "just don't run into sniping lanes" (who are we kidding, everywhere is a sniping lane; they can be effectively used at close and medium range), "You are stupid/scrub/{name here}" (My favorite). If you're going to argue, at least provide something other than bias and "I know what I'm talking about"

13 RespuestasEditado por Erijian: 5/1/2016 12:15:39 AMIn short, it's time to nerf Sniper Rifles to bring them in line with everything else Bungie has adjusted. Bungie has no plans to bring primary TTK down, or allow Fusion Rifles/Shotguns to snipe people anymore.

2 RespuestasCan we all agree we need a full auto, very low impact shotgun on a rifle chassis? Range of pre 2.0, three shot kill. And mag size of Lord of wolves? It would be fun, right?

56 RespuestasYep, snipers are not a problem. It's most of the weapons that were good at countering them have been nerfed or left in year 1. I just cannot understand why Bungie nerfed high caliber rounds on Mida. It worked great on snipers.
-
I carry the Sniper in this IB mostly because its my highest light Special. I have a semi ok light Shotgun but honestly, I never liked either weapon much for PVP (not saying I can't use them, just not my first choice). It would be nice to have a medium range hard hitting Sidearm for for something in between the Shotgun and the Sniper. With the possible exception of Dreg, all the Sidarms I have seen are wimpy low damage / 'high Firing Speed' weapons that are useless. (btw - wtf is the point of calling a Semi Auto Weapon fast firing? Is it just an excuse to nerf the DMG?)
