So this is a concept I've been playing with for a while, based on the clan mechs in MechWarrior:

Honor Duel
PvP Mode, 3v3. Skill Based Matchmaking. Weekly reward: Endgame loot, up to 3x times.
Special Rule 1: Fireteam leaders ‘bid’ light levels, starting from their teams average and bidding lower. This happens twice each. Whichever team bids lowest has their light levels all reduced to this point.
Special Rule 2: The team who won the bid round fight at a disadvantage, but steal one endgame loot reward from the other team’s pool of three, and gain one significantly improved item from their own pool if they win. The significance of the improvement is dependant on the light level difference (Elemental primaries, exotics, etc)
Special Rule 3: The team who lost the bid fight at an advantage, and gain one endgame loot roll from their own pool if they win.
Eg: Team A is 335, Team B is 335
A Bids 325.
B Bids 330
A Bids 300
B Stands
The match now continues with A on 300 light and B on 335
This system was designed because the current IB/Trials light system really doesn’t add anything to play. It’s boring to win or lose a fight because of unbalanced light levels alone. However, this mode plays with light levels, encouraging teams to take as large a penalty as they dare for the chance at better loot.
Just an idea anyways as I like the idea of bidding progressively larger handicaps for a shot at more loot (I realize there is probably some way to min/max this). Hopefully this will illustrate how the light levels in PvP can be used to interesting effect, rather than just to give one team an advantage.
