I currently have 4. Doom, overwatch, battleborn, and dead island definitive collection. All the digital deluxe. Edit 1: alot of people are against preorder, not surprising. Getting burned for $60 or more sucks. Edit 2: people actually voted for 5-6?? That's a ton.

  • I usually have 1 or 2 leading up to the release of games that I'm interested in. Since I get my pre orders at a 20% discount, I don't lose nearly as much if I decide to trade them back in. Besides, I'm staying away from pre ordering new games unless I've enjoyed previous installments (like with Monster Hunter or Deus Ex) or if I end up enjoying the beta (like Overwatch's that starts in under a week). People who are against pre ordering are free to do as they wish, the games (probably) aren't going anywhere. I still like to pre order physical copies though, especially in the case of when Payday 2 came out for xbox 360 and ps3. There was a shipment problem that backed up the release, but I got it as soon as it was available BECAUSE I pre ordered.

  • What makes pre-order bad? I don't do it simply because I want to minimize time spent in Gamestop.

        • Overwatch because I've enjoyed it for the most part, Doom because I've missed playing it, and Final Fantasy XV because I've always enjoyed them. Usually don't pre-order but I did for these

        • I only have DOOM preordered. I do not preorder, as I like to wait for when the game comes out to know what it really is when it releases. After playing the alpha, and the the two betas, DOOM definitely has my preorder. I would have bought it anyways. I might preorder Mirror's Edge on PSN, because it comes with a cool dynamic theme. And the Catalyst beta was pretty good.

Uncharted 4. I trust Naughty Dog completely, and I know that it will be amazing, so I pre-ordered it.

            • Oh, this may take me some time to count up.... None. Not a single one. I don't pre order. The state that games get shoved out of the door. I refuse to pay money upfront for the shower of shit developers and publishers expect paying for. I made the mistake of breaking my own rule and pre ordering Arkham Knight on PC. I'd enjoyed the other games so why not.... It was one of the worst ports to appear on the platform, that's why not. It was so bad it was pulled from sale and refunds were handed out without question.

              • I have Doom preordered, but it's going to be the last one. Games like Arkham Knight and Watch Dogs made me learn how risky preordering is.

              • Fewer people preorder these days. Especially if they've been gaming for awhile and have in the past preordered games like Alien:Colonial Marines, Watchdogs or Assasins Creed:Unity.

              • Currently I have 19 preorders, 6 of which are LEs/CEs. Of those 19, some will surely be cancelled and others might be put off until later, but, as of now these are all games that I am interested in enough that I have preordered. Additionally there are games not yet available to preorder that I will, once the option opens up. Now, guess how much money I've put down/how much the publishers have received...$0. Preorders through Amazon aren't charged a deposit and I can cancel anytime up to the morning that the game ships and I still won't be charged. And because I have prime I get 20% off preorders and new releases up to two weeks after a game is released. Some people will say this is a terrible idea but they are mistaken. If someone doesn't want to preorder by all means, don't, but to blame that practice for the ills in gaming is just lazy. Truthfully, the best and worst thing to happen to games is the combination of the internet (especially high speed) and large publishers. Let me explain that statement. Widely available, high speed internet has made online gaming as we know it possible. Gaming would not be what it is without it. Additionally, large publishers have the resources to create the AAA games that we enjoy, and to set up the servers needed for online play. Now for the bad part. Every large publisher has someone that handles risk assessment. They look at what their upcoming competition is and how likely those other titles are to cut into their sales and they recommend launching an unfinished or buggy game and then rushing out a patch in time for launch or shortly after, or delaying to polish the final product. These companies are out to make money, and they make their decisions accordingly. This is where the advancements in connectivity come back to hurt games. Because most, not all, but most gamers have access to a decent connection companies know that we can download these patches to fix things, which enables them to even consider the option of launching a buggy game. Before that, what was on the disc was what you got so it had to be ready because there was no easy way to patch and no reasonable assurance that the majority of your audience would be able to get that patch. As for the matter of dlc, that is very much a mixed bag. Some dlc, like most of the offerings from Bethesda, rockstar, cdpr, are great. Others, like the classic Bethesda horse armor, or in my opinion mp map packs for pretty much any games, are pretty poor offerings. But expansions have always existed too, they just used to come on a new disc, so I think it's foolish to say that preordering has led to cut content, it's just that the delivery of the content has changed, and because the delivery is now far easier companies have naturally tried to sell you as little as possible for as much as possible. Even when games were disc based and digital was not around, the original battlefield 1942 released several disc expansions that were basically map packs. They had more than just maps but that was the bulk of the new content. So the practice is, again, hardly new. I preorder anything I really believe I'll enjoy and then in the run up to release I watch video and read early impressions and other articles. If I start to see my interest waning I cancel to wait for reviews. Yes, there are times that I've been burned by a series that I traditionally liked (I'm looking at you final fantasy xiii). But, by keeping an eye on news about games that I've preordered, I can honestly say that I have minimized the number of times I've felt burned by a preorder, and by recognizing that it is my responsibility to be an informed consumer, I am happy to continue preordering, paying nothing until the game ships to me, getting my discount, and enjoying the game when it reaches me.
