Are you in need of Longbows? Maybe it's a Devil You Know that attracts you? Sir D, a Destiny streamer and Youtuber has observed some interesting ways of trying to influence your faction package rewards.
If this interests you, read on:
It's very possible that the rewards in your packages adapt to what is equipped on your character. If so, it could be possible to "trick" the package you are opening by making whatever slot the desired weapon is in the lowest possible light level in order to get that desired weapon class.
Example to brush up unclear explanation:
-equip max light level gear.
-equip Year One weapon on special slot
---> the package now believes your special weapon is bringing you down severely
-adapts package to drop a special weapon
Personal example:
I tried this with my very first crucible package. I equipped my VoG Praetorian Foil and put came a Longbow Synthesis on the very first try.
I will be trying this later with my next package in the hopes of getting a Grim Citizen.
This is obviously not 100% perfect and results may very but what have you got to lose?
Edit: people are reporting different cases. It seems that there is a slight difference. I believe that doing this does affect the smart loot in some way. I'm going to keep doing this because I don't mind slowing down my light progression.
