BUNGIE, CBMM has made the Crucible frustrating and not fun for the Majority of your players.

I will most likely get a lot of hate for the topic, but I really couldn't care less. The purpose of this post is to hopefully get the word out to Bungie how the majority(average pvp players) feel about the changes to PVP. First of all I would like to say that the recent changes as far as weapons and classes go are a huge step in the right direction. I think weapon and class tweaks will always be a "work in progress" but for the most part I think we are in a good place as far was weapons and classes go. The main issue that I and the majority of other players have with PVP is that the current implementation of CBMM has made the crucible not fun and very frustrating. It appears that the only people that are really enjoying or are having fun with with new changes are the top players. The top players bitched and moaned about having to sweat in every game and they just wanted to have fun and have "pizza and beer" nights playing crucible. Well that is all fine and good but the changes made to please them has made the game not fun for everybody else. It's funny because these "beast players" were frustrated when previously their matches were too sweaty to be enjoyable, but when I now see them in just about every game(thanks CBMM) they too are using the same sweaty loadout as the players they complained about. The fact of the matter is that since the changes, the majority of the matches that I have played in have been lopsided and not fun. Even the matches where my team comes out on top suck. I might be in the minority here, but I actually like close matches. Maybe it is just me though since I don't have a youtube following to impress. Before you went away from SBMM, most of the matches that I played in were pretty fun and left me wanting to play more. Now every match seems like a trials match where my team is getting beat down. I can deal with that in trials where the best players in PvP should rule, but that shouldn't be the case in regular crucible. Bungie, you guys have the stats. You know most of your players are around 1.0K/D. Do you actually think they are having fun getting abused in every match by top 1%er's in every match? It isn't and another thing that I see regularly now is quitting. I have had many teammates leave matches when we are getting blown out which just makes the problem worse. And speaking of quitting look at your stats on quitting for the Iron Banner. How many players quit when they are getting blown out and have their fifth medallion? I will stick it out for the most part but I can't really blame them for leaving. I understand wanting to have good connections in every game, I want that too, but why cant we have both good connections and matches based on skill? Just like Halo the majority of playlists should be skill based. If you want to add an unranked list for the beasts that want to beat up on lesser players you could always add a "social" playlist. Any way just putting this point of view out there. It needs to be heard.

  • I like crucible now but most games are oneside. By alot, my whole team will get a + kd one game and the next the whole team goes negative. I don't have a set team, I play solo, talkin bout blueberries. When we win its a blow out and when we lose it's disgusting.

    The problem with SBMM in Destiny is that it punishes players that take the time to get better at the game. The higher up the skill ladder you are the less players there are up there with you. Less players mean longer search times and also laggier games. How does this cause laggy games? you may ask. Simple, less players in the search pool means less acceptable player connections for the system to choose from. It would much rather grab a player of equal skill from Zimbabwe than a player of good connection of lesser or greater skill. Sometimes the system can't find anyone to match them with, so the skill search broadens as the game searches and they may end up with you(that's why it may feel it may have been removed in favor of CBMM.) (All of this happens to new players as well, not many players have stats bad enough that it would equal 0.0 on everything.) On the contrary the casual/majority of players have a ton of players amongst their skill level so the system has the luxury of finding good connections and quickly at that. When someone asks me what weapons they should be using and how would they go about becoming better, you know what I tell them? I tell them it's not worth it, that they are better off becoming worse at the game. That their time invested will only bite them in the ass. You realize how backwards that sounds? Is that what the developers and the community truly want for the game?

      • This post ended up a lot longer than I expected. Please have patience and read it all. I was going to post a pro-sbmm post but was glad to see someone beat me to it. Unfortunately, you got some facts wrong The match making is still sbmm. It has been watered down quite a bit since it was first implemented (i.e. the skill bands have been broadened to each player pool is bigger in an attempt to reduce matchmaking times and lag). This has meant that there is a wider range of skills in each match which can lead to one-sided games and stomping but we still have a match making system that has a large sbmm element to it The real cbmm was in year 1. This was terrible for learning maps and learning techniques as you could go for more than a few seconds without someone way above your skill level (probably not even top tier) shotgunning you or getting head shot by a hand cannon Sbmm let me (and a lot of other below average players) learn the maps and learn techniques. You get better against people of similar skill levels and then move up against people of higher skill level. This is the way people can actually improve. Cbmm was "sweaty" for below average players and sbmm is more relaxed and allows people to play and learn without getting frustrated and quitting (sbmm is not sweaty for everyone). I quit pvp early in vanilla Destiny and didn't go back to the crucible again until January this year because it wasn't worth my time to go there just to help other people get their 5 kds at my expense I now enjoy pvp. I accept that that something had to be done to reduce the lag for the more skilled players so I accept (but not necessarily like) the changes to sbmm match making so far but NO FURTHER About lag: Why is it that lag increases with increasing skill levels? There is almost no lag in the lower tiers of pvp play in sbmm but it gradually increases as you move up through the skill levels. It's not just the top 1%; it starts way before that and gets worse. Things people do that increase lag: Play in fireteams. This makes any connection-based matchmaking useless when you jump into games with a group with people spread all over the world (or even close to you with different levels of connection) Stream, watch Netflix, watch other streams. This could be in the background while playing or just in the wait between games. This is when matchmaking is taking place and increasing your network usage during this time will screw up matchmaking and could lead to you (or others) in the match lagging Play at stupid times of the night. Don't expect to be matched with local players at 3am when the majority of people playing will be on a different continent. Final thing (not the fault of the majority of players), people who deliberately lag end up in the upper tiers in sbmm. This really concentrates all the crap and means that (for skilled players) the chances of getting a match with a laggers is a lot higher with sbmm than with cbmm Anyway, there are things that we can do and Bungie can do (sort out the deliberate laggers) that can reduce the effects of lag in the crucible and help sbmm work without Bungie playing with settings again. If you aren't willing to help, it's your own fault when you get laggy matches so don't come back to the forums whining. Don't go posting about your super fast broadband and ultra-low ping times as its not the only thing that will affect matchmaking.

        • I mention this same thing when I see the elitist complain about SBMM. I like SBMM. I like playing people of a similar skill level. We actually have fun. And before you say it..... I could care less if I get any better. I just like shooting aliens and the occasional guardian. This is a casual game and I'm a casual player like the majority of the income stream for this game. Do something for us for a change Bungie. This game is pretty fun though and I'll play either way ;)

        • Wtf is this CBMM you speak of??? I get put with ultra sweaty Mexicans every round. Trials is a mega bitch unless I'm rolling with my god squad. I wish CBMM was a thing. I'm tired of Mexicans. I hope Donald Trump's wall blocks WiFi...

          • You do realize how laggy the games are for the top players? You do realize skill means nothing when you are shooting at someone and they are just tanking bullets. For you it may not be so bad but when you are a top player the pool of players that can be pull from is much smaller.

          • I think that you are playing a different game. Connection is not a thing in Destiny matchmaking. I get matched across the globe to fight the laggiest sweatfests in History. Without dedicated servers there is no way not to use CBMM.

          • I had two games yesterday where I went over 3.5. Look at my stats, I am average at best. This pub stomping you're talking about isn't happening to me (except in Skirmish). I haven't checked in the last few weeks, but at the very least, SBMM is still a thing since last Iron Banner. On my boyfriend's account, I stomped. The Best...Around every single match on his account. On my account, back to about 2 out of 5 The Best...Around. I don't see the changes, and I'm not getting stomped.

          • Actually it made it suck for the top 5%. Us filthy casuals and noobs are just fine not getting destroyed by a fireteam of tryhards and mlg wannabes every game. We are the majority who play this game and hand over truck loads of money to Bungie in exchange. Not you.

              • Right now it's SBMM. Which is so much worse, and is causing lag everywhere. The game would be far more enjoyable if it actually was CBMM.
