Composer or a controlled firing of a Halo, or a Precursor Star Road sent at the thing like a buzzsaw, or Logic Plague. That's the best Halo can do as far as I know.

You're forgetting one thing about John... He doesn't lose. It's not that he can't, it's that he doesn't. He's one of few characters where plot armor is a legitimate trait with his unbelievable luck allowing him to win an otherwise unwinnable situation.

I know that. But if the forerunners could predict and control everything in history up to the defeat of the didact, why couldn't they go further? If master chief did fight Satan, couldn't they see that and predict for it too?

Forerunners aren't that capable, I'd think. However, Mendicant Bias is a Contender-Class AI, and he had experience among the Flood, so that warrants some plausibility.
