I love artifacts they have the highest stat values allowing me to comfortably switch my stats with changing my guardian's appearance. All artifacts are are a way to customize your characters stats without having to changing their appearance.

customizing...LOL one goes up, one goes down YAY, what a great custom job there that no one can see nor care about.
-
As opposed to what? Stats are never visible to others in games. They just enhance the players gameplay.
-
If artifacts didn't exist, other armor would just be scaled to provide more stats. If player customization is their goal, they need a more intuitive stat system, not just an extra armor slot.
-
Ya they would be scaled making the stat values even more important on armor making you forced to change your armor (appearance) to get the stats you want. The extra slot is the best way to help customization without completely changing the way the armor system works.
-
That is a good point. However I think that if they were going to massively improve various systems in year 2, they should have at looked at the stat system, which is heavily lacking in my opinion.
-
I feel differently. Destiny has always been a game that is casual yet offers up something for the more hardcore to work towards. The stat system is great in that regard because it is so simplistic that a casual can pick it up yet offers a min/max fan something to play around with.
-
I see what you mean, but I don't think this is the right direction. The stat system has a lot of potential to create tons of playstyle and player build variety. The means of acquiring additional stats could be simple and easy to pick up, but I don't think they should simplify to cater to casual players. I think stat presets limit so many possibilities, and having custom stat builds can make the game tons better.

There already are custom builds. You can go for int/dis build or dis/str or balanced or whatever. On top of that you have armor perks such as increased gernade throw distance, get melee charge from orbs of light, increased reload speed with weapon of choice. There are many builds to help customize your character to fit your needs and your individual playstyle.
-
There are builds, but not nearly to the extent that there could be. Stats are attached to armor, which punishes players who want to play fashion souls. That extends to armor/recovery/agility; they are just presets that don't change a lot. All 6 stats, perhaps even with the addition of a couple more, could be customizable by the player to create unique builds.
-
All stats in games like this are tied to your armor. Look at The Division, final fantasy 14, The Witcher , etc all stat values are tied to the armor. There isn't any game I can think of (not saying they don't exist) that stats are completely controlled by the player. Yes they could add even more to armor but I find it rather unnecessary as it push the game more in the min/max hardcore player area rather than in between that and the casuals as destiny has been all along.

Making stats more curomizable wouldn't make it any less casual; it would make it more intuitive. Just because it works in other games doesn't mean it's the best thing in destiny. I'm not saying it doesn't work, but I don't they should limit themselves to what other games do. I think a stat system similar to dark souls would be great for Destiny. Not nearly to the same degree of complexity, but the base concept is great; leveling up stats one by one the way the player chooses.
