my parents often say i am addicted to video games because i play for about three hours a day. I still get good grades I still go out with friends. They have gotten the idea because I asked if I could play a little longer so i could play trials but they said no so I kept on playing anyways under a blanket so they wouldn't see the light. they went online and saw that video game addicts will go to extremes to play games and lie about how much they play. WHat should I Do?

Much better obsession than what I do under the covers...

1 RespuestaNew hobby, gym, join a sports team like soccer or swimming, cooking. Get even better grades, get a gf who hates gaming

Bruh I have a job,gf, go to the gym, hang out with friends. And still find time to play at least 3 hours a day. Just need to time manage and everything will be fine. as long as your doing good in school why does it matter how long you play games anyway?
-
Just tell them that video games are a healthier alternative to heroin.

Turn the brightness down on the tv n stick a towel under the door, problem solved. Ha, nah I'm kidding. Strike a deal with your parents, say you promise to bring your grades up to ALL "A"'s on your report card, in exchange they can be a lil more lenient with the restrictions you have. Basically kid, you're supposed to get good grades. But by going the extra mile you demonstrate to your parents how important this video game topic is to you, with hard work. Hope this helps you and btw I think you're parents sound like great parents who truly love you. You'll fully understand why that is much later in life. Good luck lil bro

First of all, I wouldn't argue. Depending on your age, I wouldn't just accept the lack of increased time, but even, possibly, to reduce it to weekends only. (High school exams and stuff) Besides, 3 hours a day? Only on Destiny? Must get boring, and, besides, even if it's 32 different games, 3 hours a day is excessive (about 1 day a week gone, playing video games) Also, keeping on playing for 3 hours a day will lead to bad habits later on your path to becoming a self sufficient individual. If you keep playing 3 hours a day like it's a ritual, grades can drop in later grades because you prioritize gaming over studying. Trust me, that's a TERRIBLE idea. IF you decide to keep playing daily, I suggest you only game only AFTER all homework and everything is done. Maybe a bit before, but make sure videogame time melds AROUND social and studying time, and not the other way But I cannot stop you from doing what you will. So, to help you, I suggest the numerous studies (Google "study stating why videogames aren't bad for you") or the numerous TED Talks pertaining to this particular subject. There are many TED Talks that actually state and explain why we should all be playing games, and that they are something that should be explored and allowed to thrive within our culture, rather than mocked and stigmatized. TL;DR: While I suggest reducing game time and molding game time around times used for other subjects, you can use basic search functions and TED Talks to make your point.

3 RespuestasEditado por eetee: 4/14/2016 11:04:32 PMI play 5 hours or so a day, and I still get great grades B+ or more (in college), have a great body (go the gym a lot), and I'm writing a book. Tell them people like us exist; they need not to be concerned.
I don't have a girlfriend though :(
1 RespuestaListen to your parents and be glad they care about you. Most would not worry about it as "their kid would be out of their hair". You'll grow to appreciate that they put boundaries on your activities, believe me.

1 RespuestaFirst of all, 3 hours a day is more than enough. Second, if you keep doing what you're doing you'll probably be grounded and/or your console taken, but of course that's your judgement to make. I wouldn't recommend playing and hiding it though. Honestly, if anything, that is the type of action an addict would take. Maybe get out? Play some sports? Have some active fun?
