Now imagine driving three times as fast (two inches from 40 other cars) with no creature comforts , room temperature water only and no snacks or the ability to stretch for 3 to 5 hours in 100 degree or greater temps. Drivers have gotten out of cars 10 lbs lighter than when they got in , blood blisters across the entire heel of their hand , and this doesn't count the dangers of wrecks on the track. Tell me again how they are not athletes and it takes nothing to do it. BTW , Football and Basketball aren't much of a sport these days compared to what they used to be. Can't touch , can't defend , all about offense and scoring points. At this point the NFL should just become a 7 on 7 passing league and the NBA should just become the Horse League of America.

It requires both physical exertion and skill. It is a competition between individuals. (Teams are involved too but it's more individual based.) It is for entertainment. I don't see how it's not a sport, I don't necessarily enjoy watching NASCAR (I'm for of an Indy Car guy.) Just saying though it fits the definition.
