He ain't giving you a thumbs up. He's in fact just checking if he's in a safe zone. When there's a nuclear blast, there's a mushroom cloud. So what you do is put your thumb in front of your eye. If you can still see the cloud above your thumb, you're not in the "safe zone," and if your thumb covers it, then good job, you lived.
(Speculations, I'm not really sure how true it is.)

1 RespuestaIf only more people gave the thumbs up to the atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.. alot of lives could've been saved
-
1 RespuestaIf I'm not mistaken it's called the rule of thumb.
-
2 RespuestasWhat happens the moment you realise, nope not in the safe zone
-
Ph references back to the days when we knew so little about our own weapons. I actually just watched a documentary about some British castles and one castle (dover) had a hunker put under it during the cold war for important people to be sent to. Good thing no bombs dropped though because they found put that the chalk rock that they thought would protect them would actually have let radioactive rain water go right through and so the people probably would have died shortly after the bombs fell.
-
4 Respuestasbecause they used to tell people if the size of blast was smaller than your thumb you would be safe from the bomb. They said this so they could make everybody feel safe about a bomb going off.

7 RespuestasLol kek skrub I alredy new dat. ur ghey lolololol.

Thought he was getting ready to sit on it
-
3 RespuestasBut what if you have a long thumb or a stub of a thumb?
-
That's cool!
-
Just don't worry about the fallout zone or the down-wind safe area....because a nuclear blast will always be completely symmetrical and the radiation cloud doesn't move at all... Gotta love 1960s thought processes
-
1 Respuestaaight i'll put my thumb literally right in front of my eye and close the other eye ^_^ YAY I live
-
6 RespuestasIt's Vault Boy

I'd heard that before... that is a very inaccurate method of determining something very important!

What if you have short arms and big hands? That puts at least a mile or two inside the fallout radius.

Wow like lmao I didn't know that from everyone else telling me on the internet ROFL so crazy
-
The power of positive thinking. Someone at bethesda is a Tony Robbins fan.
-
