Last evening I was fixing to do some casual trials bounties, and maybe try to attempt 5 wins to get the chest armor for my warlock. After posting a short ad on Destiny LFG I received a invite from a guardian a few mins later. This individual was easy to get along with and was quite friendly. I asked both my assembled teammates if they run trials regularly, (not that it mattered to me, as I just wanted to do casual bounties) which they replied with "not really"
It didn't take us long to begin our trials run, we came upon a team of warlocks that had their game on point and we got slaughtered. Since we had our boons on I wasn't to concerned with the loss, I was just focusing on getting to 5 wins. Regardless this particular guardian suggested we just run to the reef to acquire new cards/boons.
This time we entered trials to my surprise and joy, we were winning consistently and reached 5 wins very quickly. Now I'm a very average player and only recently have been getting into trials, this supposed guardian that didn't play trials often was KILLING it. He moved with unwavering confidence, sliding, jumping, using his vertical space well. His snipes were extremely accurate and lethal, and his primary play was just as deadly. While we were approaching 7-8 wins the huge difference in our skill was made evident. At the time I didn't think to much on it, as I was trying my best to focus and attempt to pull my own weight. We approached our 9th match. I was extremely excited and nervous since I was a lighthouse virgin, and getting this far was not expected on my end. We ended up losing our 9th match ( it was close), luckily we had the mercy boon, and on the next attempt we succeeded!
We arrived on Mercury to collect our loot and as we approached the chest I received a surreal surprise. This guardian that kindly recruited me was actually a certain Destiny streamer that secretly helps fellow guardians to the lighthouse. Upon hearing this news I was shocked and somewhat speechless( as we were live on stream for the duration of our trials adventure). It really great to know that there are some guardians out there willing and wanting to help others out, not for profit or recognition, but because they can, and enjoy it.
The experience was not only enjoyable and humbling, but my first trip to the Lighthouse will always be special to me. I left feeling extremely grateful and appreciative, more so hungry to push myself to obtain his level of play, and one day I hope to pay the kindness forward. To the guardian ( if you read this) I just wanted to say thanks, you made it a great night.
*Leaving his gamer tag out, because I'm sure he will continue to do this for others, and I don't want to ruin the experience.
