Guy A bought Destiny. He has access to guns like Atheon's Epilogue (60 stability & no counterbalance).
Guy B bought Destiny. He paid EXTRA for The Taken King. He has exclusive access to best-in-class guns like Doctrine of Passing and Arminius-D (78-82 stability + counterbalance).
No matter how hard guy A tries, he can't out-gun guy B because his auto rifles just aren't quite as good. They just don't have as much base stability, or even access to new perks like Braced Frame. Perfect Balance was nerfed hard, and guy A's auto rifles are really suffering now, recoiling all over the screen. Guy A can't win because he didn't purchase more content.
Pay 2 Win has been here the whole time, people. You decide if it's OK.
Also where the -blam!- is all the old gear we paid for???
EDIT: HOLY SHIT the idiocy on this forum is intense! I only suggested a theoretical scientific experiment that proves that Destiny technically has a slight bit of P2W in it, at least for rapid AR users such as myself. I only wanted to inform you to keep you thinking critically, on your toes! You must be wary of Destiny's future.
And yes! I've bought all the content and I've been here since LAST January. I'm not complaining because I'm poor LOL. It's just that the business tactics are unnerving.
Also Y1 players basically have no legendary gear right now besides the raid guns and worst-in-class queen weapons... Had I not been here before, I would have far fewer guns and less fun. I honestly think it's unfair for new players.
EDIT: I'll make it more clear. There is no balance between currently obtainable Y1 and Y2 weapons. If 2 new players buy the game but 1 pays extra for TTK, he will have a MASSIVE equipment advantage and shit on the other player in crucible. Paying money for better guns. It's the definition of P2W.
EDIT: Also, Y1 armor was secretly nerfed and basically provides no stats now. You have to pass TTK paywall to even be competitive in Y1 PvE.
EDIT: I have a new example to make my argument clearer.
Destiny is a car I bought.
The developer released a newer, cooler car. It costs more money but it has slightly better performance.
They also smashed my car's windows and broke off a door to make the cooler car even more attractive in comparison.
Is that not unethical business?
EDIT: Pay to win is when a developer arbitrarily nerfs guns that weren't even top tier while promoting new top tier guns to force players to spend money to stay competitive. That is exactly what happened between A. Epilogue and Doctrine.
P2W isn't a matter of expansions. It's a matter of balance. You're an idiot if you don't understand that. If Doctrine didn't shit on Epilogue this post would be irrelevant, yet here we are.
Not all MMO's need to be run by asshats. It is our duty as consumers to at least recognize these exploitative business practices. These practices that are only now possible because of DLC. DLC can be done wrong, but it CAN be done right. It's meant to expand the base game, not destroy it.

This is bound to happen with new content, however the manner in which Bungie handled it is a bit backwards I will admit.
-
Uh.... Extra stupid. Anyone with brains knows that what you said was true. Still, you clearly don't know what pay to win means.
-
Insert slow clap emote here..

6 RespuestasSounds like Guy A needs to adapt. Problem solved.
-
You know the Forums never fail to show me how brain-dead this community is. That you OP for being a fgt.
-
13 RespuestasGuy A should get smarter and use TLW, because it's year 1 version is better. Guy A also has access to reforging weapons. Yes, reforging is still a thing on HoW weapons. Your argument is terrible. The only time where any of this matters is Trials or IB. If you care about the game enough to want to compete in IB or Trials, then you should be up to date with expansions/DLC. Simple as that.
-
1 RespuestaIts a dlc. And nechrocasm has so much stability. It is year one. And he doesnt have to use auto rifles. He has all the vog guns, the yr 1 exotics, and ce guns, and poe guns. Boom.
-
2 RespuestasAtheons Epilouge can outgun Doctrine if you know how to use it.
-
Lol... Welcome to MMOs.
-
Check out dattos video on the pay to win situation As much as I agree with you he explains both sides and breaks it down to a tea

1 RespuestaCan you PLEASE SHARE WHAT YOURE SMOKING as im extremely jelly of you. I just want to be as spaced out as you are.

4 RespuestasEditado por dmillibeats: 4/4/2016 2:04:10 PMGuy a has the same shit as guy b lol wtf drugs are you on ?
-
1 RespuestaEditado por Onxide: 4/4/2016 2:05:37 PMIt's more like this... You spend $60 on an unfinished game, then bungie decides to sell you back the cut content that you already paid for and disguise it as DLC. So in reality, you wasted an extra $80 (which was more than the base game itself) to play it. Destiny isn't pay to win, it's pay to play.
-
The B8 is 8/8, but people are so salty because there are too many P2W posts. But good job.
-
OMG really......

2 RespuestasAllow me to save you all trouble of commenting by telling you what will happen if you do. You will write a carefully well constructed counterargument pointing out that this is how MMOs work and how even in real life things progress and get better over time. OP will than comment saying something stupid about he's right, your wrong, and you're stupid for not agreeing. You'll comment again trying to help example it better but OP will have none of it because he's 'right'. Don't comment. It's not worth your time.

3 RespuestasFunny thing is person A will never play person B in crucible unless person B selects the classic playlist but who plays that shit? Yeah so not really an issue
-
3 RespuestasTechnically every game is pay to win. You have to buy the game to win
-
1 RespuestaI thought the destiny community wouldn't go beyond retard, I was so wrong
-
Well put, sir. Unfortunately there's no talking to the Desticles. Might as well try and teach a tree to read.
-
I'm confused by your argument, because I bought vanilla Destiny a year ago and person B didn't, Destiny is pay to win?
-
1 RespuestaOne major thing wrong with your argument. You didn't buy all the year one content that you speak of. You bought the rights to play bungies game. End of argument.

10 RespuestasThis "P2W" you speak of doesn't exist. It's a man-made term subject to one's own biased opinion of the matter. This is primarily based on the preferences that the player may, or may not, want to spend any more money after the initial purchase. The term you would be looking for is P2P which is defined here.
Source
Even then, this isn't the case. So I'll leave you with this.
Is it a mandatory thing needed to proceed through the game? Meaning that without the items, can you never proceed forward throughout the game as a whole. No?
Therefore, it is not pay-to-play. Confirmed by literal definition of the term above
Yes?
Give me whatever you are smoking, and go re-read "No?" again...

7 RespuestasAtheon's Epilogue can easily out gun a doctrine in the right hands. All that matters is the skill of the person using the gun in the crucible, perks really don't make a huge difference I mean I've used the starting AR and carried my team with it so it's really not pay to win because it doesn't create a huge disadvantage in the crucible since there is no level advantages
-
1 RespuestaI bet you have a large butthole....

8 RespuestasThe epilogue isn't nerfed. It does the same damage as doc
