Gaming headsets.

So I just bought the Xbox One Turtle Beach Recon 50X Gaming Headset. I bought them because even though my old DXL1s are perfectly fine, I can't chat with them.
This was a mistake. Complete pieces of trash. I've had $10 ear buds with better quality.
So I'm going to be returning them tomorrow.
I need suggestions for which decent quality headset to buy that won't destroy my budget. [spoiler]The only reason I bought these shitty $50 ones in the first place.[/spoiler]
I am somewhat partial to Turtle Beach because they're familiar, but I'm open.

These are the ones I think I'll be getting.
But I have a question, are ear force headsets surround sound? I can't see any mention of surround on any Turtle Beach headset at all.
Actually come to think of it I don't think my current headset is surround either but it sounds like it is to me.
Update 2:
I now face a dilemma. I found a simple adapter that would allow me to use the chat on my DXL1s, but all this talk has me wanting new ones anyway.
FINAL:
I have decided to go the cheap way and just get the adapter.
However I thank you all for helping me to get a better idea of what to look for when I do get a new set.

In the long run the A40s are both the highest quality and will cost you less. My current A40s have been chugging along with no flaws and no issues since 2010. The previous pair, also A40s, lasted 3 years and were working fine when I decided to upgrade due to some technological innovation in the new models. Compare that to replacing your cheap $100 buzzflaps every year or two and the choice is obvious.
