TL;DR Read bold+italic text.
So you are running away, and something absolutely horrible is right on your tail. You have been running for 30 seconds to a minute now, and suddenly your character is out of breath and can no longer run. You almost instantly get wrecked by said horrible thing, and all because you needed to catch your breath.
The best examples I can give are Fallout 4, and ARK: Survival Evolved. In fallout, its either a behemoth or deathclaw, and in ARK, it can be just about anything when you are a noob. I am getting chased by a raptor in ARK, and its 3x my level. Im running for dear life, and suddenly I need to stop to catch a breath. Within 2 seconds I am dead. Now im not sure, but I think I would have a surge of adrenaline that would push me forward at least a little longer.
Feel free to add which games need an adrenaline factor and why, Im actually interested.

1 RespuestaYou're talking abour stamina. Adrenaline can be a good thing that powers your body to do things you wouldn't be able to do in a tired or dangerous state.

8 RespuestasGo play Alan Wake. That game would be exactly what you are looking for.

3 RespuestasIn my opinion sprinting stamina in games are just arbitrary gimmicks that they check off, they really add nothing but frustration in many cases and are not even realistic. In games like Fallout 4 or CoD or even Destiny and a lot of other games you play an person in a good condition, often well trained yet they can only sprint for a few seconds. I am average at best and hardly trained these days and I still can sprint a few hundred meters before getting out of breath, and I'm sure that when my life would depend on it I would be able to go even further. Those sprinting mechanics serve no real use, they are pointless, just make sprinting infinite in games and just delay aiming or shooting or something like that to offset the balancing,I think most games do it that way anyway.

2 RespuestasI hate when in games, mainly GMod DarkRP, when someone is chasing you and you are running trying to find cover. I always freak out thinking I'm gonna die and lose all my stuff.
-
So basically no infinite sprint. Yeah I wouldn't mind that in more games.

Editado por Okn: 12/28/2015 5:44:48 PMSometimes I say "Why is it that I can do all this but I can't run for 10 seconds on a flat surface?"

1 RespuestaEditado por Pheint3d: 12/27/2015 9:29:20 PMI think it would be cool if your character turns his head and sees the npc chasing you, a small self buff would take place "fight or flight" when stamina reaches zero, some kinda screen animation would let it become even more obvious It happens when stamina reaches 0 and your stamina bar would fill back up but another color, your defenses would drop, movement speed and attack raise, and for every 2 small ticks of adrenalin stamina lost you lose a tick of health (or some kinda appropriate ratio, I don't play any of those games you listed, I first thought a 1:2 ratio but idk what is reasonable for those) Example Hp=health points Sp=stamina points Once reaching zero, assuming both are 100 points, each tick =10 points, we will go the 1:2 ratio first as an example. Hp==========100 Sp==========100 Hp========90 Sp=======80 Hp========80 Sp======60 Hp=======70 Sp====40 Hp======60 Sp==20 Hp=====50 Sp 0 Each (insert duration of tick) here would just decrease Hp afterwards until you reach 1 and either die or just can't run at all anymore. There has to be some form of limit or penalty that makes you exceedingly more vulnerable as time goes on.

6 RespuestasThat's what limited stamina is for

>adrenaline factor for non-horror games Alright

Dying light

How could I leave out Dead Island?
-
3 RespuestasDying Light at nighttime is the perfect example of an adrenaline filled game. However, once you hit around level 20 (usually after you've beaten the game) it's not so scary because you can kill the freak nighttime zombies with one hit.

1 RespuestaIt makes sense, maybe make it so sprinting after you lose your stamina will slowly drain health? I don't know, something like that.
-
This is why I love Alien Isolation so much

Editado por a clumsy scrub: 12/27/2015 8:18:06 PMSelf bump Also any CoD zombies, suddenly cant sprint just as a zombie comes out of nowhere. Maybe skyrim too, but its been a while
