There is a lot of chatter in the forums about what, if anything, needs to be done about sniper rifles in PvP. Here, I try to consolidate the options I've seen presented, and to add a couple of my own. Please vote and leave your feedback. Pretty sure a change (not all are "nerfs") is coming, so it's really a matter of communicating to Bungie what we would like it to look like. [u]Options:[/u] 1. D0MINATION suggested that "sway" be added when aiming a sniper rifle. The sway would mimic the movement associated with breathing (after all, when standing still, you can see your Guardian breathing). 2. Anybody who hunts big game or shoots long-range targets knows that when looking through a scope eye strain is very real. For the sake of this game, the suggestion is that (a) you can only hold in aim view for five seconds at a time, and (b) regardless how long you held aim view, as soon as you stop aiming, your aim view is on cool-down for five seconds. 3. PhenomenalFiend suggested that when you're aiming a sniper rifle, if you're hit by a round you are automatically taken out of aim-view. I like this option, as it should be[b] impossible [/b]to aim a sniper rifle when taking fire. 4. Self-explanatory 5. Self-explanatory 6. For folks who use snipers in PvP and do not want to see them changed at all. 7. For folks who use sniper rifles in PvE (but rarely in PvP) and don't want to see them changed at all. And yes, I fully understand that PvP and PvE weapon changes should be separated, but right now, they're not. Edit: Hektik made an excellent suggestion, that if I could, I would add to the poll (can't edit the poll options): reduce the amount of ammo for sniper rifles in PvP. I suggest that, in PvP, sniper rifles can only hold the rounds they have IN THE RIFLE. Edit: This is where I stand. What Bungie [i]should do[/i], but won't, is leave sniper rifles alone and buff the other classes. So, since that's not going to happen, here's my justification for my position: Please allow me to interject a little realism (some folks [i]freak out[/i] at the suggestion that realism has a place in a game with space magic, to which I respond: so we should just throw out ALL the laws of physics and principles of behavior and physiology???). Anyway, as a real-life hunter, it bothers me that there are no limits to hard-scoping. Eye strain is real, and can be brutal. Your shooting eye gets really tired when looking through a scope for long, yet in Destiny, there are literally no limits to the amount of time you can hard scope. Second, and again pulling from real-life: when being hit by rounds it should be near-impossible to get off an accurate shot. The stagger needs to be increased. Snipers should ONLY be effective when [b]not under fire.[/b] The onus is then on the sniper to become more stealthy, to move more, to setup where not expected, rather than rely on the fact that I have to land three head shots hoping you'll simply miss me with the one you need to make. [u]Being killed by a sniper should be a surprise. [/u]If I've discovered your location, and pepper the area with rounds, you shouldn't be able to peak out, get hit, and still make the shot. It would force snipers to move and adapt. Rather than the hard-scope camping that is the plague of the current PvP mode. Finally, and this is a bit of an aside: other than the [u]distance[/u] of the one-hit kill-shot, what's the difference between hard scoping a corner or choke point and doing the same using shotgun? One tactic is vilified while the other is not. In my opinion, neither should be. I simply feel that there should be limits on the ability to hard scope, either intrinsic - limit the time you can hold scope view - or extrinsic - greatly increase the stagger when hit. Edit: Great comparison of camping strategies: sniper camping is low risk, high reward; shotgun camping in high risk, high reward.     • This is sort of like the first option but when you are moving add a sway because let's be real. When you walk your body bobs. This would solve so much stuff

    • I personally think you're missing some options that I've mentioned before. I fell the Main problems with snipers is you are able to be just as accurate while moving as when you're standing still. Sniping is supposed to be a "Take you time, acquire target, precision kill. Precision implies refinement and patience. It's too run and gun here. There should be a huge penalty to accuracy if you're running. This will limit quick scoping and hip firing. In ADS if you move (aiming) at all there should be a minor accuracy penalty. This will limit drag shooting. (More if you're ground moving) Add to that that when you go into ADS there should be a minuscule delay to reach max accuracy. This will force the playstyle to be less run and gun and more patience "setup target" driven.

      • I honestly don't know. Don't think I got the sniper skills or experience to say one way or the other. I do find them more annoying than shot guns ever were.

        • To be fair, if Snipers get nerfed, people in PvE that use them in the Kings Fall or many other challenging tasks would take a tremendous downturn. No doubt they'll be useful but the sniper would be in a PvP status nerf in PvE and no one needs that.

          • What if they add more flinch, sway, and disable radar while holding the sniper to keep them focused on long distance and make them less effective close range

              • There's another problem with people who don't use snipers, they seem to think that all snipers stand in one spot for the entire game, there is a thing called aggressively sniping

                • I feel that if they increased the flinch while aimed in and decreased the accuracy while getting shot it would be great. That's my only problem which I can shoot and get head shots while getting shot at a lot.

                • I'm fine with snipers, but I believe adding a breathing timer would be a great feature. After aiming down the scope, it sways a bit while aiming, then after a few seconds it starts to sway a lot because of heavy breathing. Like a cooldown.

                      I wish that bungie could learn to make specific nerfs for pvp vs pve for pvp the ultimate pvp nerf would be gun sway, BUT guardians have proven immune to that, so a change that could actually happen is remove hidden hand, replace with a decent perk like ff/ol and lower aim assist in pvp

                      • Easy fix. Add slight sway ONLY IN PVP. But i think differentiating between pve and pvp would be too hard for bungie

                        • If you take away aim assist it will keep people from drag sniping. In my opinion this is the only problem with sniping. Besides that sniping is fine where it is.

                                        Accuracy while moving should be greatly reduced. Standing still or crouch shots only. None of this strafing around a corner while hard scoped.

                                        • Step 1 is to separate PVE and PVP weapon performance. Step 2 is to add a penalty for taking fire e.g. descope I've seen far too many instances of a sniper scoping, taking fire and still being able to get a headshot off due to no penalty of any gravity.

                                            • Don't all weapons have aim assist to some extent? Would it be possible to remove aim assist completely from all pvp events without bungee having to change one weapon or an entire weapon class. Maybe that might be good a good place to start. Make it completely about skill with no crutch.

                                              • Replace sniper rifles with marshmallow guns then replace the marshmallows with cotton balls cuz cottons a little softer and less chance of a crucible injury.
