Edit, 1 November: Truly disgusted by what's going on in this thread. Thank you I suppose, for proving my point. And to the true low-life's who are taking advantage of me being falsely accused of sexual harassment, go to hell. Despite this being an anonymous Internet forum, false accusations of sexual harassment are way out of line. As I said to those involved, my wife - who is a YWCA teacher serving underserved communities with a focus on advocacy for women - read every single exchange and is more angry at my accuser than I am! That's all the proof I need that I'm in the Right here. Anyway...
Okay, for those of you who have been participating in the response circus below: I have put my original post in the spoiler at the bottom.
TL;DR: In my OP, I suggested banning inactive players from posting in the forums. Thanks to BlaximusPrime178 – one of the first respondents – I realized that a far better option would be to expand the mute/block function. Here is my rationale:
The forums are infected. Infected by people who – for reasons I truly do not understand – troll the forums targeting people who choose to continue playing the game and posting feedback. It’d be alright if these folks provided useful feedback, but they don’t. Instead, they target those of us who are still playing, and who take the time to construct feedback in the hopes that this game – and/or a future iteration of it – may improve. Just today, I’ve read personal attacks from three people who openly admit they haven’t played the game in months and simply troll the forums. Yet here they are, enjoying full forum privileges, which they use to troll posts by players providing legitimate feedback.
We all have our reasons for choosing whether or not to continue this messy, beautiful adventure. Why should we be subjected to near-daily personal attacks simply because we’ve chosen to stick with this game, BUNGIE? It’s now widely accepted that the Ninja don’t have a clue how to apply the CoC evenly across users. I think that after Cozmo publicly reprimanded one Ninja who abused his/her power when banning forum users, that the Ninja have largely given-up (as they should have without more formal training).
So Bungie, what are you going to do? Do you want to make the forums a place where we can safely post our opinions on the game – good and bad – without the hassle of having to defend ourselves from repeated personal attack? (Please don’t say “Use the Report option.”) Hell, even if we choose not to defend ourselves from these attacks, the fact that my intelligence, manhood, and sexuality are called into question every time I post about the game is -blam!-ing ludicrous. So Bungie, what are you going to do about it?
I suggest an expansion of the mute feature so that it is an actual blocking feature. If I block you, you would not be able to post a reply to me or anybody else in any of my threads. Now, before anybody thinks I’m simply hoping to create a glorious kingdom of Yes Men and Women, I’m not. I’ve never muted anyone – and would never block someone – simply because they disagree with me. I can handle being called an idiot for my opinions, as long as you have an argument as to why I'm so wrong. Spreading insults just for the sake of insulting has no place here. And just think, if you find my posts annoying as hell, block ME! Winning!
Just do it, Bungie. My recent posts have all centered on the theme of “show us you give a shit about us.” This one is no different. Show us, Bungie, that you give a shit about your players by allowing us to block toxic people. Mute simply isn't enough.
This was part of my original post. Please do not comment on it, as I have clearly discarded it in favor of expanding the mute/block function described in the main body of the post. I leave the text below simply for full disclosure, so that nobody thinks I'm trying to hide my original post, which many people rightly took issue with.
If TL;DR, see the two short edits at the bottom. In fact, the second edit presents a better, more inclusive alternative that I think I prefer to my original suggestion that inactive players be banned from forum posting. If I were to rewrite this post, I would focus on expanding the mute/block function, rather than a posting ban. JESUS PEOPLE, READ THIS BEFORE GOING OFF THAT I CAN'T HANDLE DIFFERING OPINIONS. So many of you posted below that I am trying to censor people that disagree with me. Reading comprehension: where in this entire thread do I even suggest that? This thread is not at all about debating differences with regards to the game; it is about blocking those players who offer little other than insults and hate. I can handle being called an idiot for my opinions, as long as you have an argument as to why I'm so wrong. Spreading insults just for the sake of insulting has no place here.
Easy solution: I propose that if a player has not played Destiny for over three weeks, that they have their forum-posting privileges revoked until they log ten hours of gameplay. These individuals would still be able to read any post in the forums (and to use all other Destiny App functions); they simply wouldn’t be able to post anything until they log ten hours of gameplay. Once a player is “active,” he/she would need to continue to log not less than 10 hours of gameplay each month in order to remain active, and thus retain forum posting privileges. I see no problem with this proposal given that if you don’t play the game anymore, you shouldn’t be allowed to post in the forums. Period.
Caveat: inactive players could be allowed to post in the Off-Topic and Help forums, but not in the Destiny or Feedback forums.
Anticipating that some trolls will cry that they paid for the game and by extension the “right” to post in the forums, I say tough titties. If you don’t play the game anymore, you shouldn’t be allowed to post in the forums. Period.
To be clear, under this proposal, you do not have to have bought the latest DLC to retain posting privileges. You simply have to remain active; in other words, you have to play the game.
Now, apologies in advance to the handful of inactive players who continue to construct measured and articulate posts regarding the many-fold valid reasons not to support Bungivision’s business model. My proposed disinfecting of the forums would result in a posting-ban for you as well. I don’t know how to setup a system that would distinguish you from the trolls, but I am certainly open to ideas.
Also, before anyone gets the idea that this is some holier-than-thou post, I am certainly not above hitting below-the-belt when dealing with personal attacks from trolls. If I violate the CoC, ban me. The proposal I’m presenting here is not directly related to violations of CoC, but instead is an attempt to remove the festering dead weight of inactive players.
Edit: TL;DR: Revoke forum posting privileges from inactive players.
Edit: Hmm. Just a thought, how about when you mute someone, they are banned from posting in your threads? As BlaximusPrime correctly suggested below, the problem with these trolls is in their replies to our posts, not in their own original posts (which they almost never create). So, if I mute you, you cannot comment in my threads, to me or anybody else in that thread. That works for me.

79 RespuestasEditado por Malphisto: 11/30/2015 7:20:24 AMSounds like all you want to do is what Bungie was being accused of, which is essentially censoring the forums. If Bungie isn't allowed to do it, neither are you. Sorry. I mean that's seriously what you're suggesting, for absolutely any reason at all, you want to "BAN" literally anyone in any of your threads. That's actually worse than what you were first suggesting which was for Bungie to apparently go through and evict anyone who still doesn't play the game. (Never mind what kind of massive PR disaster that would be for them) ANY form of censorship is wrong. Period. FYI, Bungie already went through and required ALL Bungie.net accounts to be owners of Destiny. Meaning people who had been here before the release of the game and who chose NOT to buy it were already wrongfully given the boot. There was a HUGE uproar about it. Now you want an even more ridiculous forum-wide banning for such petty reasons? No. You need to just get over yourself. Here are 4 simple steps to solve all your problems, mate. Step 1: Get yourself thicker skin. Step 2: Learn to not add fuel to a burning flame. Step 3: Exercise the Mute button if you don't like someone. Step 4: Stop trying to pick fights with others.

1 RespuestaWe can agree on this. I'm sure many will block me ;). But it makes sense to have.

3 RespuestasEditado por Bungolickstaints: 12/1/2015 3:40:13 PMEhhhh I honestly disagree. I think better debates get started with people on multiple sides of an issue. If everybody blocks each other there won't ever be disagreements.... Besides, plenty of times people just get carried away. I'm sure I have personally insulted half of you, including Carnival and Sols...I've also been insulted back, and also had amicable discussions on subjects we've agreed upon... If I just went around muting people that insulted me or I disagree with, I'de have missed out on the times we DID agree. I prefer a completely uncensored environment lol, but that's just me I guess. The forums would be completely decided with "pro-Bungie" and "anti-Bungie" spheres lol Edit - Bungie should just do a better job muting people who do nothing but insult people.

9 RespuestasNearly a thousand comments now. I'm not going to lie. I am absolutely heartbroken that this thread can muster nearly a thousand comments but a thread discussing rewards and how they need to change cannot compete. I guess that's to be expected after a year of being ignored.

105 RespuestasEditado por LONE RONIN2012: 11/30/2015 6:42:25 PMI'm trying to figure out where you are? I mean one minute you're saying with the others that the real players are the ones that still pay money to this game. We'll forget that doesn't include you, since by your own admittance your brother in law gave you the game. Then you go make comments supporting the players that quit. Now you're here saying that people who don't play the game should be kicked from the feedback, and forums in general, completely. Really, what stand do you take? Because all I see is a lot of flip flopping back and forth. Now on your topic of trolls, who judges a "troll" here? You? You''re angry at me for my comment about your wife. Too bad and get over it, since you missed what that comment was in reference too. That comment was in reference to your support of the sexual harassment of a female gamer in these forums. As told to me by the female that you and another member were in a thread with her. This other member told her, and this will be a direct quote from her, "are you horny." To which you laughed and thought it was funny, by which supporting that behavior. So sorry if I lost some respect for you after this, since there is NEVER an excuse for sexual harassment, or the support of it. Next you, and your alleged "Voice of the Community" here seem to think that anything that goes against their ideas is a personal attack. I made a comment on Sol's thread where he tried justifying His buying of TTK. In this comment I was polite saying that though people have the right to spend their money as the want, in my opinion, and I still hold to it, anyone that bought TTK is rewarding Bungie for their behavior. To which Sols took it personally, even though I addressed the message in a respectful way and not him, and attacked me for it. Same behavior you have been doing to me ever since I didn't support you on your ban, and the same as you do now. All yesterday, and all today I have addressed you in respect, only to get insults and attacks in return. Again, who is the troll here? My disagreeing with you doesn't by default make me a troll Carnival because you want it too. You as well have stated, if I didn't misunderstand, that players like me contribute nothing to the game, nor solutions to the problems. Sorry, but until Bungie shows that they are listening my solution, as with others, is to stop giving them money. I wrote a post a few months back about how Elder Scrolls Online released a DLC, and took NOTHING from the players that didn't buy it. You would dismiss it as trolling, and nonproductive. Yet, it was my second posted thread that was picked up and used by a gaming site. Not that this was my intent, just happened, but the point is that just because you don't agree doesn't mean everyone else will. In fact if you took things less personally, you'd cause yourself less stress. Really, this is completely elitist in its design. By which I can't agree with it in my views that everyone should have a right to share his/her constructive opinions if I agree or not. That's the difference between you and I. I don't agree with everything people say, but I will fight for their right to say it, so long as it doesn't take freedoms from others. Even you Carnival, since unlike you I have nothing personal against you guys. Sadly, I write a constructive response, and they attack. Thank you for proving my points. So again, who are the trolls?

2 RespuestasBlock would make things so easy. You could just mute those couple of douchebags that are constantly posting in the good threads trying to derail them for all their worth, and that would be it. They couldn't post in your threads, you wouldn't have to see them ever again.

There is a mute option already

3 RespuestasEditado por TheShadow: 12/1/2015 2:14:13 PMIn all looking at this. Bungie is not going do anything because their track record shows that they're dropping year one and have admitted they are not going to change things.

6 RespuestasEditado por Second Coming: 11/30/2015 11:25:46 PMHere is the code of conduct for anyone who is confused by what it entails. https://www.bungie.net/en/Clan/Post/121/162456429/0/0 So yeah, the people who are making it a point to slam the OP, Sols and others in the comments and who make it a point to do so in all their threads, I suggest you read these lines in particular
What is a personal attack? A personal attack is any negative statement or insult about the character, traits, nature, qualities, or abilities of another user on Bungie.net, especially when it is an attack upon the person rather than the merits of his or her post. While it is permissible (subject to this CoC) to disagree or debate the content of another person's post, be cautious that you do not cross the line into attacking the person who posted it. Similarly, if someone is attacking only the merits of your post, even harshly, try to avoid taking it as a personal attack or responding with personal attacks.

What is harassment? Bungie.net's moderating team may judge that a user is engaging in harassment if that user is seen attempting to make Bungie.net an unwelcoming, uncomfortable, or hostile environment for another specific user or group of users. Harassment may include a variety of conduct, but often involves multiple replies to posts by the targeted victim(s) or "calls to action" by the harasser trying to cause others to participate in the harassment. Harassment often includes, but is not limited to, repeated personal attacks, threats of violence/hacking/doxxing/swatting (or other negative action) against another user, accusations of cheating/hacking/other illegal activity, thread derailment attempts, suggestive or sexually explicit language, or other disrespectful posts. To be clear, harassment is prohibited even if you feel the other person deserves it. For this reason, "naming and shaming" suspected cheaters/hackers, "counter-trolling," and attempts to "expose" users that are lying about themselves may all constitute prohibited harassment and result in your removal from this website. Users that attempt to make Bungie.net a hostile or unwelcoming environment for any other user will not be tolerated. If another user offends, annoys, or irritates you, the only appropriate course of action is to ignore him or her, or (if they are violating the CoC) report him or her to the Bungie.net moderating team.
I know I'm not the only one who gets sick of seeing Sols and others repeatedly attacked in all their posts by the same group of individuals. This is a valid thread on a perfectly valid topic of discussion and it has once more been turned into a cesspool by a specific group of players. I didn't see any names mentioned in the OP or specific members called out and yet there is a post that's been put up by one of the trolls from this thread calling for people to "wage war" on the OP and any of their friends. Is that what we've come to? Is that what these forums are now about? It's time for Bungie and their so called ninjas to read and understand the code of conduct that they themselves have set forth and either start enforcing it or be willing to accept the horrible place they've let these forums become for those who are just trying to socialize with other people who God forbid enjoy playing this game.

8 RespuestasUnbelievable is the lack of support from people who play this game, care about it, and post actual feedback Everyone must enjoy all the guardian on guardian hate Amazing how butthurt the people are, who don't play this game, but come here for entertainment. They clearly don't give one single -blam!- about the games future, or how passionate people are with their posts & time. Just here for the ride, uselessness. It's like my post on how they have not mentioned anything about future dlc content, which the did last year 3-4 weeks in advanced.. I spoke of it being December although it was several days previous, and the fact that it wasn't December yet, was more important for people to poke fun at, instead of recognizing that my post was ABOUT BUNGIE GIVING US MORE CONTENT!!! LOL I see people upset about some things you said, like the active forum'ers who don't play destiny. Understandable, but they should be understanding and offer a solution, instead crying and making it about themselves. Let them go post in #help & #off-topic, maybe even #destiny, if they like destiny so much & don't want to play. They make everything so personal & so easily lose track of the topic & intention.
