So before I start, I'll say this before anyone else does.
Yes, I love to use a shotgun
Yes, I have a .97 KD (learning to play pvp took it's toll)
Yes, I main a hunter (since apparently using a specific class makes me whiny?)
Hell yeah, I used thorn like crazy when it was king.
If you're going to ignore the post and comment about how these are "the only things you see on the forums now" and how I should just "stop whining and git gud", the back button is on the top left of your screen. Please click it.
I can agree that snipers are by far one of the weapons that take the most skill to use in this game. If you don't get that headshot, you'd better hope that you can lay off another body shot quick.
But here's the thing, the amount of "skill" they require really isn't all that much. Hell yeah, it requires a lot more skill than a shotgun ever did, but in reality it isn't that far off.
I can agree that shotguns needed a nerf, the range they were killing from *cough felwinters conspiracy* was ridiculous. But they were just nerfed so much that now all I see when I turn any corner in any map is a red glare. I legit have people quick scoping me from hand cannon range.
So I decided to give snipers a try. I watched all of TrueVanguards tutorials, practiced for 10 minutes, and went into a control match with my 1000 yards of aim assist. I did incredibly well, and continued to do so for 5-6 matches after until I switched to my shotty again.
Just to make this clear, I DO NOT think snipers need a nerf. They do what they're supposed to do, they kill from a long range. What I do think is that we need to introduce mechanics that make snipers actually feel like snipers and not a really long scout rifle that can 1 shot you in the head.
Things like:
- Weapons sway (hold your breath)
- Lower aim assist (let's be honest, almost all FPS have aim assist, but destinys is by far the most forgiving I've seen)
- Bullet curve
Some argue that snipers shouldn't have sway because "Bungie never did it in Halo". But let's be honest guys, Bungie never gave you a half assed story and unbalanced pvp in halo either, did they?
Some of you might not share the same thoughts I do, and that's fine, this is just my opinion. I just really wanted to write it out and see if anyone else thought the same way.
Edit- It's remarkable how many of you choose not to read the post.
Edit 2 - Neat link to a post I found and wanted to keep tabs on https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/175295633/0/0
Edit 3 - a lot of you disagree with the weapons sway, and I can definitely understand what you mean. Weapon sway is a bad idea
Edit 4 - For some reason you guys are ignoring the entire post and talking about aim assist. This post is not about aim assist. And yes, I know exactly what aim assist is.

I completely agree and I love to use snipers. I'm not a big fan of any of the scopes with aim assist. I actually think it gets in the way more often than not. Good post. Cheers.

16 RespuestasI'm fine with those things. My sniper kills are usually drag scopes anyways because I'm always moving the crosshairs. No need to steady the scope when I don't leave it steady anyways

While I'm reluctant to credit Destiny's developers with any deliberate or correct weapon balance decisions, I will say that the sniping mechanics you want to introduce do not work in a game in which players can teleport, fly, or run 15 mph nonstop around tiny maps. Sniper rifles require deliberate and skilled play to be more effective than primary weapons; the same could not be said of shotguns, nor of fusion rifles before them.
-
Weapons sway? Go play black ops3...

( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡° )

Not feeling the new mechanics idea. I like how these snipers handle. Nothing like headshotting someone out of the sky on the fly. I think about 10 % of people that snipe now are good at it. The other 90 percent can't get a headshot unless they preaimed a door way and you walk in. I've jumped into a room and they can't even body shot me.

4 RespuestasEditado por me2ez: 11/23/2015 12:31:16 AM1. Who doesnt like a Shotgun, and the extra nerfs are arguably a little extensive. But too many people are doing nothing but playing with that shotgun they love, hardly ever touching snipers or fusions or sidearms. They need to always try their absolute best to keep everything on the same playing field, no matter how grim that may seem or even possible at all 2. Yes, you have stats just like everyone else that plays this games PvP that doesnt necessarily define your "skill" but does in fact show what you are capable of, including the plateau's. I'm saying you may have a grip on how to use the engine and mechanics we all use, but with those stats, please dont ever assume you have real weight and truth to make the argument that any said gun need adjusting. Youre just too far below even the average player on this game. I know this may seem insensitive, but this is why your thread wont stay trending for very long. 3. Just because you play a certain class in a said game, doesnt mean you owe someone an explanation for your opinion. The comment about "Yes, i main a hunter" is completely irrelevant and if anyone criticizes you over it, you simply mute or ignore them. You didnt need to state that. 4. Anyone who had thorn eventually used it, the better players went with a more effective route and these are the players who have kept The Last Word in their pocket along with a sniper rifle that will hopefully have ambush or shortgaze. Heres some more contrast. Many "better" pvp players will gladly take the ambush scope over the shortgaze BECAUSE OF the aim assist and how high aim assist not often but do in fact ruin the perfect headshot we always aim for. I say thats a contrast because if you used thorn, youre desperate for that smidgen of "edge" that up your odds, but in a good players mind "the quickest and most skillful and reasonably effective" gun like the last word is the better choice, because you can kill faster with a last word back then, than with a thorn. Those three shots were always more important to us than those two slow-ish shots that held the better odds for the chance of a 2 shot kill. 5. If you agree that snipers are one of the most skillful weapons to use (when in FACT THEY ARE the most skillful weapons to use) then why even title the thread that they are an issue. You are starting this thread because you suck and struggle to play well against someone who simply has adapted and honed what we good players have loved since the beginning of this game. A sniper rifle is the most effective way to win any competitive Destiny pvp mode. Period. It achieves the same thing as a shotgun, you just need some precision, talent, patience, and the will to put your opponent down in one shot. Without needing the absolute most dumbed down method possible, like a blink and shotgun blast. Without needing the stupid and unskilled two shot thorn when you can kill them faster with a Last Word. Or when you can avoid that 2 player line up in your sniper scope, but you miss cause your dumbed down shortgaze tried to lock onto both players, when if you had ambush sites, the drag would of been more controllable and you could of easily just killed them both in 2 or 1 shot if you have armor peircing rounds. 6. Of course you see a red glare more often than not when something is deemed hindered by the developer. People are adapting and youre using that as an excuse for there being an issue at all with snipers. Thats just dumb. People like you are the reason Bungie cant get a grasp on a more level playing field. You all shout "ISSUE" or "PROBLEM" because people are getting with the program and challenging themselves to become just a little better at this games PvP. Then suppose they finally reach that status of comfort in 3-4 headshot lineup killstreaks with their 1000 ys and you come along and push for them to think its wrong or "not so skilled" 7. These snipers DO FEEL LIKE SNIPERS. Some shoot faster than others, some do more body damage. There is no need for them to feel like a scout rifle lol... the scout rifles in this game do that just fine and dandy. I numbered this because of Bungies love for the number 7. and i just wanted to make 7 points on why your thread is pointless and deserves no recognition, only the recognition that its filled with more fallacies than Helen Keller trying to get around furniture. EDIT: Oh and one more thing... DESTINY'S BULLETS DO NOT "CURVE".. unless its a rocket launchers bullet.

The maps are really dictating this shift toward sniping. There are so many sniper lines in all these maps now. I see people camp up and stay there half the game. Iron Banner CLASH was a bad idea in my opinion. There were no objectives, and it led to more shitty play, less teamwork... and MORE camping. At one point, I did the same as you. I'm vaulted my shotgun for my sniper and found it more effective. Along with my max ranged scout if I could I would of stayed 100 meters from the enemy the whole game.
-
I really like how CoD does snipers. 2 shot below the chest, 1 above or in the head. Destiny has a weird way of doing sniping. I think stuff like 1000 yd should be like the ballista (I'm gonna use Blops 2 because it's the one I played the most) things like black spindle should be the dsr. And stuff like Praedyth's revenge be like the svu. That being said, I'd rather NOT have stuff like the Remington, I'm fine with the ksg (and chaperone because they are not ridiculous) where it can kill from farther than the Felwinters lie. Yeah, basically activisions input on PvP needs to be more apparent. Hopefully this is what we will see more of in year 3, with the new game. Before you blow up on me and say cod is shit halo is amazing, I'll say I agree. Halo is better than cod. But cod knew what it was doing with pvp more than destiny does.
-
Shut up... *facepalm* please delete your game
-
Sure we can add sway but then we'd need the chest area and above to be 1 shot.
-
I'm not good at crucible but I do find snipers very fun. Every miracle headshot I get, "Xbox record that". Then I watch the video and realize it wasn't that cool. Sniping is cool

Part of the problem is a technical issue with where the bullets come from. The other, which is affecting specials as a whole, is the ammo economy. The only thing I would do to snipers themselves is bring back descoping in some capacity. Other than that the above mentioned things need looked at.
-
I am a shotty user through and through. I haven't noticed much in decreased effectiveness since the update, if anything, people carrying snipers around makes using a shotty easier since they have to counter with primary/melee. Snipers seem fine though I do see them more now
-
3 RespuestasI've been wondering about aim bots personally. There seem to be some players who don't miss headshots under any circumstances. Skill is one thing, but being a supernatural sniper God is another.
-
4 RespuestasLiterally all we need to do is increase ads time. People can use it in close range because it's so quick. Make it like half a second and I promise snipers will stop becoming a problem.
-
1 RespuestaBullet curve doesn't exist in this game. One point everyone who talks about scope away & weapon sway seems to forget one thing when comparing destiny snipers to cod & battlefield, you HAVE to hit a headshot to ohk with a sniper (excluding litc) in destiny. If all those mechanics to make sniping more difficult were added, they would also have to add snipers with enough impact to ohk in crucible. This is why they probably won't be added any time soon.
-
4 Respuestasquick scope head shots need a nerf sniper rifles are too effective at close range
-
Idle sway would solve the non stop hard scoping issue. I can't believe it's not in Destiny when it's in most other FPS games.
-
1 RespuestaHa hahahaha, and this is why destiny will never ever ever ever compete with any other first person shoot and loot. People complain to much, people want things nerfed to much. A sniper is a sniper, just because they are powerful in PvP doesn't mean they need to be nerfed. If they do that than it gets nerfed in PvE. Would you really want to waste a whole sniper mag to kill a single yellow bar captain? No you wouldn't. You also wouldn't want to do less damage to raid bosses. You also wouldn't want PvP to be Olaf and boring. Bungie needs to stop with the nerfs. Shotguns do not need another nerd. Fusions need a buff. Snipers are fine. Autos need a buff, hand cannons need a godlike buff, scouts could use some tweaking, pulse rifles just need a little damage reduction. But not anything over 3%. And hammer of sol, needs to be nerfed in PvP only, not PvE. Would want a Titan running around throwin explosive hammers and not killing thralls.
-
Why not change scopes so people can't quick scope
-
Yeah snipers are harder to use for some people, but in the right hands they can be the best weapon you got. You just gotta try and use cover and corners more often if you want to counter them. Most people are not mlg pro 2 good 5 u and can quick scope you 2 feet away. But if you do come across that guy who can quick scope, you are in for one hell of a time
-
1. My back button is bottom left And 2. Doesn't the weapon tuning patch come out in December?

4 RespuestasEditado por Dahm: 11/22/2015 9:37:17 PMStay out of sniping lanes Snipers are (almost) perfectly balanced, only ohk is with a headshot. And litc is getting recoded to work on head shots only Sniping is fine

I think the only change needed is more zoom. People using them as primaries is the issue, the campers are going to camp.
