So before I start, I'll say this before anyone else does.
Yes, I love to use a shotgun
Yes, I have a .97 KD (learning to play pvp took it's toll)
Yes, I main a hunter (since apparently using a specific class makes me whiny?)
Hell yeah, I used thorn like crazy when it was king.
If you're going to ignore the post and comment about how these are "the only things you see on the forums now" and how I should just "stop whining and git gud", the back button is on the top left of your screen. Please click it.
I can agree that snipers are by far one of the weapons that take the most skill to use in this game. If you don't get that headshot, you'd better hope that you can lay off another body shot quick.
But here's the thing, the amount of "skill" they require really isn't all that much. Hell yeah, it requires a lot more skill than a shotgun ever did, but in reality it isn't that far off.
I can agree that shotguns needed a nerf, the range they were killing from *cough felwinters conspiracy* was ridiculous. But they were just nerfed so much that now all I see when I turn any corner in any map is a red glare. I legit have people quick scoping me from hand cannon range.
So I decided to give snipers a try. I watched all of TrueVanguards tutorials, practiced for 10 minutes, and went into a control match with my 1000 yards of aim assist. I did incredibly well, and continued to do so for 5-6 matches after until I switched to my shotty again.
Just to make this clear, I DO NOT think snipers need a nerf. They do what they're supposed to do, they kill from a long range. What I do think is that we need to introduce mechanics that make snipers actually feel like snipers and not a really long scout rifle that can 1 shot you in the head.
Things like:
- Weapons sway (hold your breath)
- Lower aim assist (let's be honest, almost all FPS have aim assist, but destinys is by far the most forgiving I've seen)
- Bullet curve
Some argue that snipers shouldn't have sway because "Bungie never did it in Halo". But let's be honest guys, Bungie never gave you a half assed story and unbalanced pvp in halo either, did they?
Some of you might not share the same thoughts I do, and that's fine, this is just my opinion. I just really wanted to write it out and see if anyone else thought the same way.
Edit- It's remarkable how many of you choose not to read the post.
Edit 2 - Neat link to a post I found and wanted to keep tabs on https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/175295633/0/0
Edit 3 - a lot of you disagree with the weapons sway, and I can definitely understand what you mean. Weapon sway is a bad idea
Edit 4 - For some reason you guys are ignoring the entire post and talking about aim assist. This post is not about aim assist. And yes, I know exactly what aim assist is.

While we are at it, why don't we introduce real physics into bullets. Your shot(s) should be different on the drifter than they are on Mercury. Velocity and bullet drop (or raise in some cases?) On one map you would have to aim at the body to get a head shot, while on another aim above the head. (Also, no more gravity boots. OP! Let natural gravity have it's toll on our guardians....) lol :P

7 RespuestasYou morons need to quit crying over being outplayed. Just because someone is better than you, doesn't mean the weapon they used is OP. You're just bad.

23 RespuestasPeople need to realize that there are sniping lanes, and then there is locking down half the map because you have 2+ snipers on your team. It isn't as simple as "don't go back the same way where you just died" because I can head just about anywhere and someone will be trying (often quite successfully) to snipe. I've tried sneaking around, but they can just run away, duck into cover, and slide out with a headshot somehow lined up. It's frustrating. I prefer dying by shotguns, because 95% of the time it is my fault when I die to a shotgunner. Shotgunners can't easily win when you're shooting them over and over with a primary, but apparently snipers have no issues landing a headshot while they're being shot. Shotgunners can't run away from a fight and still win because they peeked out of the corner they were hiding in with a headshot lined up. Shotguns typically appear on your radar. Shotguns can't camp your spawns. Shotguns can't face glitch.
-
Snipers as good as the person on the trigger. Anyone who says otherwise doesn't really snipe. On top of that aim assist for the most part will screw you sideways if you're not careful. Personally I roll with spindle, hereafter, and Yasmin. Others than that I can't find much else that feels right.

4 RespuestasAhhh snipers in destiny are disgusting, camping like a noob and waiting like an even bigger noob for someone to come to their sniping lane. u go down in trials and if ure in range of a sniper u cant be revived again! why? because sniper are some -blam!-ing big noobs who have such big asses who cant move and love easy kills. where the -blam!- u -blam!-s were when i was one of the best quick scopers in mw2 and 3? i cant camp, i wont camp, i wont wait for my enemy to come to me i will always remain a rusher because i know how good it feels to rush and that's sth u disgusting -blam!-'s will never understand and hey i will continue to mess u up with my very very low range shotty ;)

6 RespuestasThere is little skill in using high aim-assist snipers (ie; 1K Yard Stare, that assist is ridonkulous.) Since Bungie-vision wants to cater to the crybabies that wish Shotguns to be nerfed into the ground, and nerf LitC on Eirene, how about they nerf the aim-assist on 1K Yard Stare. Seems like a reasonable tradeoff to me. Snipers aren't meant to kill moving players - they should require more patience and accuracy.

Editado por zxionisus: 11/23/2015 7:01:37 PMMy favorite sniper in PvP is Irene (sp?), which has much less aim assist than 1000 yard. I can agree with little to no aim assist in snipers as a compromise. That's fair. Honestly, I prefer no aim assist.
-
2 RespuestasSniping is becoming a huge issue, and will only get worse in December when the new weapon tuning patch hits, since sniper rifles are basically the only special weapon not getting nerfed. It's going to be a hard-scoping bloodbath of epic proportions...that might finally be the end of my pvp career, as the only real way to counter a great sniper (side issue, how the hell are so many people so good at sniping in this game?) is to counter snipe, which is not fun for people who don't enjoy camping all match.
-
Editado por Erijian: 11/23/2015 5:47:59 PMWhat if there wasn't a static weapon sway like you're suggesting, but inaccuracy for a small amount of time after you aim? That would eliminate people trying to quickscope with them and outright stop them from being 'reaction' weapons in any scenario; and perks like Snapshot would just reduce the amount of time the inaccurate state lasts for.

6 RespuestasThere are three problems with Snipers in Destiny 1. Most maps don't have any real range to work with. So you have snipers at 30 feet sometimes. 2. Short range scopes. Yes they're cool but this enables snipers to work at medium to close range. 3. Quick scoping. Try this in a real combat scenario and see who wins. Entering and exiting scopes should have a delay.
-
I agree with most of what you are saying. My two cents, smaller hit box. They did it to hand cannons and thats seems to have work really well. Imo
-
Editado por Wolf Reflexes: 11/23/2015 6:49:16 PMsnipers aren't the problem. you are
-
I love having snipe battles with people. I'm okay with this current meta.
-
I think the problem originated from the shotgun nerfs. Snipers were always as good as they are now, but they weren't widely used so people didn't take notice. But with the shotgun's power reduction, lots of people who had little experience with snipers in PvP found that they were easier to use than they had expected.
-
Nice post, you worded it very well, i do agree that aim assist can be crazy but pulse rifles give snipers enough sway. Also great job on actually using a sniper instead of complaining about it, but never using it.

5 Respuestas
- Weapons sway (hold your breath)
No, this is in CoD because CoD people don't need headshots for kills
- Lower aim assist (let's be honest, almost all FPS have aim assist, but destinys is by far the most forgiving I've seen)
Eh whatever, I used Efrideet's and Ambush in Y1, aim assist means nothing to me
- Bullet curve
....??????

And so it begins, the cry for a Sniper nerf is coming.
-
When the dominate class of specials gets nerfed so many times, people will look to the next strongest weapon. Thats all this is, a mass migration towards snipers because shotguns are not the best anymore and they are about to get worse.
-
Meta will always change to get people going after exotics for that type. It will always revolve... always. Sniper will get nerf'd and Pulse will get a buff, Pulse will get a nerf and Shotty will get a buff, Shotty will get a nerf and Sniper will get a buff... repeat.
-
I don't think snipers are a problem. But I do think that people should start with 0 special ammo.
-
Snipers are 1 shot headshots. Shotguns are 1 hit kills at melee range. That's what these type of guns should be. If you don't like it don't play PVP. I hate pvp and avoid it whenever possible. But they amount of whining PvP players do is really outta control. Deal with it or stop playing. Leave the game alone.
-
I don't want bullet curve :/
-
1 RespuestaJust played against a team of snipers on IB that wasn't a pregame. I play against them four times. Thinking it would mix it so I don't have to leave and get stuck up against a pregame. Out of those 4 games my team won only one. It was nearly impossible for my team to move without getting headshot from a spawn point. Never thought I'd say it. But I wish I got to fight blinking shotguns again.
-
Sway is in call of duty which takes anything above the waist for a kill so it makes sense for that
-
I thought based on the comments I had seen on the forums that snipers were ruling PvP hands down. I haven't really played much PvP recently until this week's Iron Banner, and I have to say that snipers are NOT an issue. Sure, I've been sniped a bunch of times, but if I was going to compare the percentage of deaths to which secondary guns I was killed by, I think shotguns would be far and away in the lead. If you're getting sniped constantly, it's your problem. You need to learn to stay away from big open areas on sniping maps. And look for the telltale flash of light from the scope and take cover. You're leaving yourself out in the open too much. Snipers are not that hard to defend against. You just have to learn to be more aware.
