Yes, snipers are becoming a slight issue

So before I start, I'll say this before anyone else does. Yes, I love to use a shotgun Yes, I have a .97 KD (learning to play pvp took it's toll) Yes, I main a hunter (since apparently using a specific class makes me whiny?) Hell yeah, I used thorn like crazy when it was king. If you're going to ignore the post and comment about how these are "the only things you see on the forums now" and how I should just "stop whining and git gud", the back button is on the top left of your screen. Please click it. I can agree that snipers are by far one of the weapons that take the most skill to use in this game. If you don't get that headshot, you'd better hope that you can lay off another body shot quick. But here's the thing, the amount of "skill" they require really isn't all that much. Hell yeah, it requires a lot more skill than a shotgun ever did, but in reality it isn't that far off. I can agree that shotguns needed a nerf, the range they were killing from *cough felwinters conspiracy* was ridiculous. But they were just nerfed so much that now all I see when I turn any corner in any map is a red glare. I legit have people quick scoping me from hand cannon range. So I decided to give snipers a try. I watched all of TrueVanguards tutorials, practiced for 10 minutes, and went into a control match with my 1000 yards of aim assist. I did incredibly well, and continued to do so for 5-6 matches after until I switched to my shotty again. Just to make this clear, I [b][u]DO NOT[/u][/b] think snipers need a nerf. They do what they're supposed to do, they kill from a long range. What I do think is that we need to introduce mechanics that make snipers actually feel like snipers and not a really long scout rifle that can 1 shot you in the head. Things like: - Weapons sway (hold your breath) - Lower aim assist (let's be honest, almost all FPS have aim assist, but destinys is by far the most forgiving I've seen) - Bullet curve Some argue that snipers shouldn't have sway because "Bungie never did it in Halo". But let's be honest guys, Bungie never gave you a half assed story and unbalanced pvp in halo either, did they? Some of you might not share the same thoughts I do, and that's fine, this is just my opinion. I just really wanted to write it out and see if anyone else thought the same way.     • Nah, they are fine. Only thing that needs a change is -blam!-ing bad kids hard scoping and literally never stopping for 20 seconds. They should make you un-scope after a few seconds. Shits obnoxious.

      • U obviously never played against black ops 2 snipers if u think destiny's is crazy I know it is high go play bo2 and u will see the ultimate aa but I do agree a slight increase in weapon sway but not to much to make it quick scope hell

        • I did read your post. Let me lead with: Git Gud ;) But really, I haven't ever had an issue with snipers since Halo 2. Let's be honest for a tick - you should know where sniper lanes are. You should have an idea how to avoid them if you don't want to directly engage a sniper. For me, it's a one and done OR I am gonna get that guy!! But if you're running into a sniper lane repeatedly... It isn't the game. On pantheon you can go far left, swing up the middle up to the waterfall. This route on a very sniper friendly map will keep you clear of snipers and enable you to engage at a very close distance with any number of weapons or abilities. You may not need this advice, but I felt like sharing it... Because as someone who does snipe at times - and enjoy it - I think that sniping in this game is near perfect One final thing: thank you for your intelligent post. I don't agree with it, but it is well said

        • The game isn't trying to be like other games, the gun mechanics are good because they are solid but simple. Your post isn't anything new either, a lot have people have wanted battlefield type realism, but if your in a peered suit, you could technically have the suit take gun sway out. If not that, Exo's wouldn't have gun sway but all other races would. No instead in this like a lot of other futuristic games, they went with a simple and effective engine. Halo5 doesn't have sway while scoped in either, and honestly it's an unneeded game mechanic

          Lol, Halo 4 and 5 have the easiest to use sniper rifles with ridiculous bullet magnetism. In H5 you miss the head completely and get constant headshots. Everyone there is a sniper god. Tons of videos showing this. So yes, Destiny is by far not the worst example of an FPS with easy to use sniper rifles. And yet, in Destiny you still need a decent ammount of skill to score headshots, high aim assist or not, doesn't matter really, most people I encounter in PvP still use shotguns on most maps because they know that one or two missing shots will lead into their virtual death. Fact is, people get tired of getting killed by shotguns and start to learn how to use sniper rifles to somehow counter shotgun-blinkers and rushers. I exclusively snipe in PvP, no matter how big/small the map is, since vanilla Destiny. And I never regret doing so.

        • Shooting a scoped sniper inflicts more recoil or takes them out of zoom. Only way to "nerf" snipers.

        • Being a sniper I agree with you, just going from the 1000 yard to a stillpiercer I see a noticeable difference in iam assist. This sniper has so much aim assist that I've hit some mid air snipes that I should never be hitting.

          • Some weapon sway would be ok, but too much and you're in quickscope hell.

            • Less AA for snipers. Less range for shotguns. No side would argue. It's a real problem. Also I think special ammo is given out too freely in pvp. Those blink shotgunners kd would drop if they couldn't blink to every special ammo crate.

            • You do realize how hard it will be with weapon sway like cod? If they do add it. Make it a small sway that wont make you miss every shot.

            • In Halo 5 you can pull off more BS shots with snipers than you can in Destiny.

                  • sometimes I use my sniper like a shotty... from the halo game type shotty snipers where all everyone has is a shotty and sniper - If I couldn't switch fast enough for someone getting close, hip fire a couple body shots - seems to work in Destiny

                  • Well in halo the sniper was a power weapon, you had to fight to get it. I think special ammo itself needs another nerf, don't make it as easy as it is to obtain it I'm PvP (don't change pve special ammo)

                  • With good hard scopers, flank and shotgun them to make them think twice. With good quick scopers, go to orbit after the match and pray you don't get another one next time.

                  • A word of advice, just rearrange words to make it seem you main a Titan, and then it won't be whining. Btw if they add weapon sway 'like other games' they'll also add body shots OHK on snipers at close range. I snipe and make it a point never to go for body shots intentionally (unless double tapping a Sunbreaker in super, only exception) - if snipers become like that, in these smallish maps some guys will go 20-0 without much effort.

                    • Snipers haven't changed at all. No one complained in year one because their shotguns could snipe.

                    • Snipers are being complained about because the players have succeeded in nerfing everything else into the ground already and they're the only weapons balanced enough to have avoided taking a hit. Efrideet's Spear was the most used Sniper in all of year 1, with a base AA of 10. How's that fit into your equation? Shotguns are having their mobility nerfed because even bungie can see that reducing damage or range or removing perks any further would make the entire class of weapons obsolete. They understand that this change will surely break them anyway, but they had to do SOMETHING to appeal to all the whiners. If you haven't realized it by now, everything in this game has been bitched about endlessly until Bungie gets fed up and snaps the damn things in half, only for the players to start bitching about the next thing, and the next thing, and so on... Snipers have gone an ENTIRE YEAR without a single mention, and now suddenly they're being targeted because they're the only weapon that remains untouched by Bungie Balancing acts. [b]Newsflash[/b]:[spoiler] Crucible will NEVER be balanced. It's impossible. There will always be something with the fastest Time To Kill. Always something with the most Stability/Range. Because of that, there will ALWAYS be something for the scrubs of the Crucible to cry about. Whether it's particularly overpowered or not, if it kills them: they will cry. Guaranteed. And the Cycle will continue, endlessly, for as long as the Developers continue catering to the tears of the unskilled masses. Like the Shotgunners, Snipers will be just as capable of killing you as before. I promise that much. No amount of nerfing is going to erase their skill.[/spoiler] Regarding your suggestions for weapon handling, I must disagree. We're talking about hyper-futuristic technologies here. Even now, in modern firearms, there are rifles with [url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eDAcdRXu27I]smart scopes [/url]and environmental sensors that can compensate for distance, bullet drop, poor trigger technique, and the Coriolis Effect. Stocks with recoil compensating springs and free-floating hydraulic barrels. Imagine the possibilities a thousand years of innovation could bring. Our Guardians are omni-powerful beings infused with the Light of an extraterrestrial Cosmic anomaly. We have energized armor fused with our own neural systems, allowing us to perform feats of unimaginable strength and athleticism, all while protecting us from even the most unconventional and devastating attacks. We're reborn and trained daily in the Crucible to be nothing less than the most efficient killers(protectors) in the galaxy. Handling a Sniper Rifle comes as naturally as riding a Sparrow to a Guardian.

                      • While we are at it, why don't we introduce real physics into bullets. Your shot(s) should be different on the drifter than they are on Mercury. Velocity and bullet drop (or raise in some cases?) On one map you would have to aim at the body to get a head shot, while on another aim above the head. (Also, no more gravity boots. OP! Let natural gravity have it's toll on our guardians....) lol :P
