So, I hate farming. And Destiny needs a fair bit of farming.
And I hate it even more when some other n00b is farming my area, popping the easy chests but missing the hard ones - meaning I can't just follow him.
I hate it so much I want to kill that guy.
So why not let me? >:)
Let's face it: GTAifying patrol would make patrol a helluva lot more interesting again. It would also give PvP players more interest in the game mode.
Give 10% of the victim's (on-body) materials as loot, and all of a sudden you have a whole new dangerous, much less grindy and multidimensional way of patrolling.
You'd have farm groups on LFG, lone wolves preying on the weak.
"But Craven, Guardians are the good guys! They can't kill each other - that would break the story line!"
Ah. I have that covered.
It's a DLC/expansion/quest called "The Faction Wars".
The story is simple.
The factions at the tower have been sniping at each other for a while now about how to take humanity forward.
With Atheon, Crota and now Oryx dead, this new breathing space has revived hope for humanity.
And that means that humanity's future is there to fight for again.
The factions have spilled over from verbal sniping to physical - covert - sniping in the field. They are tasking their pledges with taking out the opposition, wherever they find them, to further the cause.
This is all happening under Zavala's nose, who suspects it - kinda knows it - but is currently powerless to prevent it, since he let most of his guardians pledge faction allegiance - leaving him without independent guardians for the Vanguard.
So now factions are giving out faction-relevabt bounties, as well.
FWC is asking lone wolves to go take out New Monarchy fireteams - alone - in the wild. After all - in the future, there is only war [anyone else think these guys are reading too much WH40K?]
Dead Orbit is desperate for the materials it needs for its ships, and tech to power it - go harvest materials and investigate tech like warsats. But don't die - otherwise you lose loot needed for the bounty.
New Monarchy is looking to build a power base - and find the guardian to lead it. Go build clans and kill majors for bounties. Has to be done in a fire team. And win Crucible matches, and kill guardians in the wild to power your "Hero" rank, and become the next leader. Heroes get exotics with 10 light higher than the level cap.
Anyway, something like that. All I know is that, if I have to do any more farming parrols
I do.
without it being more fun, I will have to make some sort of Homer Simpson-esqe controller apparatus that does it for me whilst I have a cup of tea.
I don't drink tea.
[EDIT] Based on feedback, a materials ramping system might help balance risk/reward, and make space for people to be able to just farm.
The more mate you hold, the higher the mats drop rate. Every say 10 mats, you drop +1 cumulative mats per chest/node. So if you're holding 50, it's 5 per chest. (Maybe capped at 5 per node).
You can bank mats into vault via app (or game screen? ) whenever you want to to reduce losses (1 mat for death, that's not too bad, right?)
Kicker is, the more mats you hold, the higher the drop rate. So YOU chose your risk/reward/grind level. And there's an incentive to team up with other grinders for protection.
Oh, and taking out a farm team solo gets you 10% of ALL their mats. Let's see if these Rumble prima donnas have the skills they claim.

3 RespuestasI'd say if you could have something equiped that kept people from pvp killing you then I wouldn't care. That way you wouldn't HAVE to get attacked all the time. That is what the crucible is for
-
1 RespuestaWorst idea I've ever heard
-
2 RespuestasYep imagine how much more tedious farming would be when some dick snipes you every time you go to pick something up. Yep. Thats what would happen, your farming sessions would be turned into grief city and take 10000x as long to complete due to people being asshats.
-
1 RespuestaGreat idea mate. My suggestions to balance out the feedback would be: - not all the zones are pvp, only 1 (the biggest area) and only those wanting to faction war would go in to this area - each faction has a safe zone that the other factions can't enter or kill you in - getting a kill doesn't give you the dead persons stuff but you do get faction rep and a collectible token/drop etc which you can hand in for rewards - at least double the number of chests and nodes that spawn to give more risk/reward to pvp patrol - no enemies display on radar to make tactical advances and ambushes tougher for all parties - allow more people to be in an area at once to make the idea of a war more realistic

1 RespuestaThis entire post just reminds me of the " Rogue Agent " state in TC The Division. You're an Agent, but attack another and you're a Rogue. From this point on, Guardians can deploy in your area to hunt you. Call it a " Rogue Hunt " patrol mode. You become the rogue, have 30 lives, 50% increased HP and survive for 10 minutes. Mode starts when as many people as the zone you're in can hold join the activity thru a " Events " tab on your Ghost. All participants get 25-50 of the planet's specific materials, 1000 Glimmer and 2 Motes of Light. The winners ( Rogue Survivor or Killer of the Last Life ) gets 75-100 of the planet's specific materials, 2500 Glimmer and 5 Motes of Light. I kinda made that up on the go that ^ is nowhere close to what I wanted to write at first.

1 RespuestaHow would you know you aren't capping someone in your faction?
-
So turn patrol into a cesspool of griefers. Sign me up
-
Have a setting for pvp or pve in patrol. AND OPEN WORLD PATROLS PLS
-
2 RespuestasThey would add too many instances of the world, so you would usually be alone in the world
-
3 RespuestasNo, pvp would ruin it. You would get a couple jackasses standing at the spawn points and killing you as you spawn. Or you would be trying to earn your 10k without dying and some tard would kill you. Keep it where it belongs
-
This is a great idea. I can only imagine, if implemented, how bad they would screw it up. Like gta, you should have the option to opt out.
-
Have the option of the original patrol and the. Use your idea

1 RespuestaJust make a patrol mission that activates fraction wars, and only works if someone else has activated the same patrol. I'm not trying to do patrol and get trolled by some sniper across the map who camps out all day and kills others who are not interested in wars
-
1 RespuestaI usually have a large stack of shit on my character. 10% is significant. For this reason of wasting time while farming, which is already a waste of time, I do not support this idea.
-
3 RespuestasCrucible was created to stop the faction wars. Goes completely against the limited story this game has. Killing a Guardian outside of Crucible has you removed from the tower.
-
1 RespuestaGood idea but alot of good suggestions in the comments
-
3 RespuestasThis would also make the game a GTA knock off. Pass. I prefer to kill stuff and have fun borderlands style, not be constantly getting my head popped off because one guy has a vantage point and a sniper rifle. This would utterly ruin Destiny. My recommendation: either get used to grinding or get a fireteam so the process goes faster. Patrol can be really fun if you like to explore the game, as I find areas, chests and all sorts in the nooks and crannies I miss during missions or strikes. It's more fun to explore and understand your environment, and I argue that I would like to explore PvP maps in patrol, as it would make it more interesting with the ability for players to practice traversing PvP maps without having to worry about getting kills and being killed themselves
-
1 RespuestaBut imagine the camping. It would be awful
-
Open world pvp is something ive always enjoyed. Problem is this game isnt open worldy enough, and in order for this to work, bungie would have to give us either a dedicated zone (aka planet) thats pvp/pve, or allow people to select server types a la wow.

8 RespuestasHere is my thoughts... Some Guardians like the Passvie Effects when not in Crucible. Make it so that when you enter Patrol, that you may choose to be passive or aggressive, and you will be matched with other Guardians that are aggressive or passive. Passive will be as it is, no penalty on death. Aggressive will provide higher tier rewards, but cost you to drop higher amounts of rewards, but you will lose some upon death. Missions that pass through Patrol Areas are automatically passive. Once Factions are activated, a Faction subset of Patrol is unlocked as well, where you are aggressive to members of other factions, and passive to fellow faction members. Faction Patrol would have its specific bounties to do without dying, but is similar to basic aggressive. Different bounties for each faction might be a problem, as some people like to play alone, and some like to play with a team. Thoughts? (The problem is, it may reduce the effectiveness of Crucible)
-
As a separate patrol this would work really well I think. Kind of a "PvP zone" if you will. MMOs use this mechanic all the time to great effect. Not quite sure it would work within the current patrol framework.
-
6 RespuestasEhhhhh it would be far more frustrating than fun. I don't see this working out to well anyways with the difference in light and levels as well.
-
Idea that definitely needs refining, but otherwise, sounds like a fun possibility
-
3 RespuestasI love it. This would make patrolling insanely fun.
-
2 RespuestasThis is the dumbest idea I've seen for Destiny. Forcing pve players to participate in pvp. I go to crucible to pvp and I go to patrols for bounties, weapon test, collectibles, and mindless fun.
