We've all seen good and bad threads; and while that may be somewhat subjective, here's the general consensus on things that make for a good thread.
Apologies for this thread taking so long to be made since I said I was working on it.
Good
Informative
People like to learn things. I find facts and current news interesting, even fascinating. I'm sure many others do too.
Entertaining
Whether it be through humour or otherwise like competitions/contests, challenges or games (bonus points for prizes), we love to have fun.
Easy to read and understand
People shouldn't have to strain to understand what you're trying to say, make it easy for them. It means that more people will bother to read what you've worked hard (or not so much) to create. Try to structure it well and if it needs one, give an intro.
Interaction with whoever comments & involvement of other members
Check the comments every so often, reply to the messages to keep in touch with other users. Also, try to keep an open mind about things even if others don't agree with what you're saying. There's not much of a point in making the thread on a public forum if you're not interested by what people have to say in response. Appreciate humour and other people's creations and ideas (even that guy you don't like).
Purposeful
It's nice for a thread to have a purpose, rather than just making a post for the sake of it. Pretty basic.
Helpful
Tutorials, helpful tips and going out of your way to help fellow forumgoers deserve some kudos.
Original
There's nothing better than your own creation. Show yourself and don't be afraid to share your ideas with the rest of us. Try not to blatantly rip off others for your own glory or recognition.
Thought provoking/Engaging
Food for thought, our minds get bored and we need to exercise them.
Posted in the correct section
Know who your target audience is and in which part of the forums the post should be in.
Unbiased
Self-explanatory. Nobody likes a stubborn fool and it's nice to keep your mind open to other interpretations.
Bad
Discriminating
This is just disrespectful and usually unwarranted.
Making the post all about yourself unless it's about an experience you'd like to share
(Otherwise known as 'attention whoring')
Flamebait/Bait in general (exceptions can be made for the very clever/funny)
Spamming
(Obviously, this is just childish and annoying)
One word titles/Misleading titles/Clickbait
No quality.
"Discuss"
A body consisting of just 'discuss' isn't very engaging, and is generally unappealing to a reader.
Beating a dead thread
Once your thread has had its time, let it go. If there is no interest in it, it just wasn't meant to be. Please do not bump a million times to artificially increase its life or post count. Don't beat yourself up over it.
Unless it was an intentional shitpost.
Quality always trumps quantity. Having more of the 'good' in threads and less of the 'bad' makes our home a more enjoyable place. Most of you are very capable of making good threads. This is only a quick rushed thread, please feel free to add more in the comments and I'll try to edit them into the OP with credit. This is the first draft and I know it's not refined. I am in no way claiming to be a good poster, these are just some thoughts. Enjoy.

2 RespuestasOr just make a thread where you mention others for example my best threads were "forum famous" I think that got around 600 then one were I said il kill you unless you persuade me "Azza's coming for you" around 900 and my best was "users you just don't like" that's reached over 1000? Good or bad I suppose people just want recognition

2 RespuestasFrom reading the thread and the comments, I feel I cannot add anything other right now. Nonetheless, this thread is perfect. Thank you.

4 RespuestasDid you seriously took the time to make a guide on how to make a thread? That is really sad
-
This qualifies as a shitpost.

1 RespuestaYou're like a community manager, but not a Pegboi. I like you.

Never make a thread that take more than 3 brain cells to understand. Take this one for example: https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/154903328/0/0

2 RespuestasNot particularly concerning making threads, but another thing people should be conscientious of is actually spending the time to read a post, understand it, and comment in a way that actually adds to the discussion. If you take the time to read a post, and produce a well thought-out comment, you can have some very enjoyable and entertaining conversations here. That's one of the reasons I keep coming back to #offtopic. The thing is, the only thing that stops this from becoming a normality around here is the fact that people don't allow it. Users comment in hundreds on a thread that has the soul purpose of pissing people off, and then complain that the only threads posted around here are shitty bait posts. But if a quality post is too long, they don't take the time to read it and comment. It's entirely hypocritical.

I wish the forums were better, but I just can't be bothered helping, so I'll let them stay in the woeful state they're in currently.

See, this thread was informative, and insightful, thus I enjoyed this post.
How does he do it D:

Most of you are very capable of making good threads.
Most I think that's the keyword here.
-
This is a good thread.
-
but i love attention whoring!!
-
The only thing I would add to this is that I feel a few pictures should be included if possible when creating a thread. Pictures sometimes tell us what words cannot. Links to sources should be provided as well!

7 RespuestasThere should maybe be a subsection to this post about commenting, like an etiquette. A lot of these ideas can be practiced on the other end. For example, if it's a quality "good thread" (as described in this thread) you should strive to make comments that both contribute to the thread in some way, and in a polite manner. Even if you disagree, there's no point in being a douche. It's very hard to communicate and interact with every poster, when all your getting back is "no u" and "fite me irl". Basically, if you have nothing productive to say, maybe think twice about what you're going to post. Or at the very least assess the type of post. Shitpost? Shitpost. Honest thread with interesting topic(s)? Be cool.

2 RespuestasThe spoiler in Beating a Dead Thread doesn't need to be there.
