I didn't pay to lose all playability when new content comes out

Hello, this is a complaint about the current state of Destiny. I am one of those who came out at the beginning and pre-ordered the most expensive version of the game available because I was excited about Destiny and all that it was supposed to offer at launch. I paid my 200 dollars for everything the first year had to offer and was happy to have paid it. Now, they offer a new DLC that's a massive update to the game, which I don't intend to buy due to other expenses I have to cover and the fact that i'm not completely made out of money. Ok, maybe I'll pick it up on sale later or when things calm down a bit but here comes the kicker. I sign into what has been one of my favorite overall gaming experiences just to run some strikes and have some fun, only to find out that massive amounts of content THAT I PAID FOR is suddenly gone. There are no more bounties for the dlc storylines. There are no more selections of harder difficulty missions. There are no strike playlists above level 20 (which is pointless since my toons are all level 34 at this point). There is no option to do anything but the raids and normal level missions, all of which are mostly pointless at this juncture. So I try running around doing some of the new missions and such, only to find myself suddenly exceedingly bored due to the lack of a challenge presented by the content I could conceivably do solo just to unwind. To say that I'm annoyed is a very strong understatement. The simple fact of the matter is that I paid my money for the game and DLC up to the point of the Queen's revenge. I paid my hard-earned money for this content with the understanding that I could sign into Destiny and still play this content for the logical life of the game. I did not pay my money to have the content I enjoy suddenly disappear because I don't pay more money for a DLC I can't currently afford. I did not pay 200 dollars to play a game for a year, I paid it to play the game for at least a few years, and to enjoy the time I have to play it, not so that after the first year of the game's existence, I can shell out enough money to buy a completely new title just to keep the content I already OWN playable. Call it "smart business practices" or whatever you want, but this is a load of complete crap on the part of Bungie and I would really appreciate it if they would take into consideration the fact that, quite simply, a lot of us paid a lot of money to be able to play the content that we purchased. This content should not be removed just to allow room for new DLC in the rotation. I paid good money for those strike playlists and upper level missions. I paid good money to be able to do all the bounties and side missions on the higher levels. I paid good money to be able to continue to play the game in the state I purchased this content in, for a very long time. I didn't pay all that just to have my money taken and then have someone decide, out-of-hand, to remove everything that makes the game playable because they want more of my money for a DLC that I can't afford at this point. So, what is bungie going to do for those of us who have paid them literally hundreds of dollars for content that they have decided to randomly remove? What is going to be done to compensate those of us who have supported this enterprise from day one, only to get left behind with their decision to remove what we paid for from the game? What is going to be done for those of us who paid all this money up to this point, who now have a game that is in a completely un-playable state? As someone who has supported Bungie and been a huge fan of this company since the first introduction of Halo so very many years ago (despite their sell-out to Sony that has left their old fans still on Xbox consoles feeling rather bitter to start with), I am absolutely livid at the way they are treating people that pay their salaries by purchasing their content. I paid for certain things in the game and those things should still be available to me at the level they were at when I paid for them, so that my investment into this franchise doesn't become a useless waste on a fancy box for a game that isn't even worth bothering with simply because I didn't shell out more money for DLC that I am less and less interested in paying for. If bungie wants any more of our money, they should really consider treating their customers better than they have been. This whole removal of content is a complete load of something that smells really bad to a lot of us.

  • Damn I feel bad u bought collectors. Thank god I didn't. I did buy for 360 and also the xbone. So I'm in the hole 160.00 with dlc. What they have done is unforgettable and inexcusable. File complaints with BBB. It's only way they might take us serious. They need to have a permanent mark on their company and a loss of income in order to change what could be the norm going forward. They lost me as a customer.

    • To everyone who is happy about the changes to Destiny, I really feel sorry for your lack of sight on this type of issue. Every single person that steps up and openly supports this kind of behavior by any company in any industry is actually hurting the power we have, as consumers, to influence decisions made by people we purchase products from. Every single voice that says this kind of complaint is stupid or defends Bungie's right to remove whatever content they want, is helping to set a precedent in the gaming industry where companies can delete or lock out huge sections of anything we purchase, any time they choose, in order to force us to give them more money. That is a very bad thing to encourage, as it will lead greedy corporate-minded money grabbers (you know, the kind of people who cut a game into tiny pieces to sell them to us one bit at a time for a higher profit) to find more devious and creative ways to make people purchase their DLC or expansion content. This is just the worst case I've seen and one that effected me personally, so it is the one I have chosen to speak out on. If we allow this one company to treat us in this manner, how long will it be before EA sees the trend as a workable strategy and picks It up? How long before Microsoft, sony, and other companies see that consumers can be duped in this manner and can be forced to purchase content by removing items from any game they choose? How long before this is the norm, instead of an isolated violation by one company acting alone? How long before you have to pay a subscription to play anything, from mmo games, to shooters, to rpg type story-based games? How long will it be before the next logical phase comes into play, if we don't speak up and try to stop this type of crap in its tracks when we see it? As consumers, we have the power to not only influence, but drastically change the way companies we purchase goods or services from do business. We are the ones spending money on their products and in the denial of that money or through lawsuits and complaints to the BBB or other governing bodies, we can (as a group) force companies who make greedy and underhanded moves to get more money, to veer back into the "fair and honest" realm of business operations. However, as long as there are voices that will call out "they can do what they want" and as long as there are those who will stand up to defend actions that show such a blatant greed for more money as this, such attempts to stop the trend to constantly find more ways to take more and more money for each game released, will be badly blunted due to the ignorance of those who blindly follow whatever their favorite gaming company is doing. So before you speak out and make all your immature and derogatory remarks about whining or "you signed the EULA" or any of the rest of that, try stepping back and looking at the trends in the gaming industry. Try stepping away from your puny little egos and your fan-boy defenses of your favorite companies and games, to look at the bigger picture and what Bungie/Activision may start by making a move such as they have with intentionally locking out most of the playable content (as in strikes, higher level missions, bounties, etc) from anyone who didn't buy the DLC. There are reasonable and allowable limits for some content being reduced for an expansion but what bungie has done is so far beyond that as to be bordering on criminal in this point...not necessarily from the terms of the EULA, but in terms of ethical and fair business practices. Please, before anyone else steps up with the same crap that's been slung since this post went up, pause to really think about the direction Bungie has taken with the removal of content. Take a moment to consider what the next step will be and what other companies will do if Bungie is allowed to get away with this shady scam they are currently pulling. Then think about what you want to post and decide if you really want to be in support of this direction, when what it means is that companies will have free reign to remove anything they wish from any game at any time, just to force players to purchase the next DLC that company releases. As a whole, the gaming community would be better served if we worked together to nip this in the bud before it becomes the standard business model for all games we purchase in the future. Just think about it

      • Legally speaking the licensing agreement gives Bungie the right to screw us whenever they want. That doesn't mean it's right, just means that they have the power and we don't. Personally I think that what they have done is a big punk move.

      • If your unhappy about the products that bungie and Activision have given you then these forums are not the place for your rants. As a consumer you are given tools to report businesses and consumer practices. The FTC (Federal Trade Commission) and the BBB(Better Business Bureau). You can file your complaints there. I don't know how far you'll get honestly in this but if you all are truly unhappy and want something done don't do it through forums. Every major company has to fall under types of laws and these bureau. https://www.ftc.gov/faq/consumer-protection/submit-consumer-complaint-ftc http://www.bbb.org/losangelessiliconvalley/business-reviews/video-games-wholesale-and-manufacturers/activision-blizzard-in-santa-monica-ca-13075134 I like destiny and I like the forums, however all I see now is complaints that need to be taken elsewhere. The FTC and BBB would be your best bet for consumer complaints. And yes Activision has responded to BBB complaints in a timely manner. Companies want to keep their A+ rating. These action will better help unhappy consumers and these forums from toxicity. Everyone has a right to their opinion and happiness. I wish those who want to take this action the best of luck, and may you fully be compensated.

        • https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/154014737 Ok, for those that are as irate about these changes as I am, please add to this thread on the support forum. There are too many voices chiming in defending the removal of content without understanding how this is a bad thing for gaming as a whole, not just this current game or series of games. I asked for support from Bungie and a response but have gotten nothing in a full day so far. Perhaps if we add more voices demanding that they fix their business practices, we might get somewhere on this.

        • So, as many of us feared, they did remove the content. I checked last night to see what would be restored and all of the content is still missing. In an effort to be fair, I'm trying to contact Bungie on this first, then probably the BBB

The DLC tactics for this game are extremely aggressive. Vote with your wallet man. I ain't getting the taken king either, if too much is cut off for me tomorrow, I'll just walk away. Looking at the way other companies conduct themselves, rockstar for eg, doing what they do (free stuff to keep you playing). It really makes you put it all into perspective... Anyone can see that this games aggressive approach is a huge cancerous tumour to the gaming industry, is rip off and is not consumer friendly. It is like a bad grandchild taking advantage of a weak grandparent. This game showed potential in 2013 but it was a shambles on release. It is trying to get better but in the real world, yes, the REAL WORLD as in what is actually happening, they just want to suck as much money out of every player.

            • Please never call this smart business practice. This is a borderline criminal scheme which feeds from pure addiction and the sheer hope of players that things will get better with the next expansion. Let me tell you: It will not. Bungie will keep on doing acting that way. This is why a major part of the old bungie crew left in the first place.

              • Here here! I LOVED the original content. I'm SUPER casual when it comes to gaming but I really got into this game. First game ever that I even CONSIDERED doing expansions. But I thought "I'll keep playing the original and maybe down the road when prices go down...." But no. I think I have to stand with my principles on this one. Holding my original content hostage....I think I'm done

                    • While this is blatantly obviously not very fair, here's why they can take away your content, and all of this is happening because you agreed to the license agreement.
