People are just asking for the wrong thing is all there is to it. Matchmaking would be a complete mess. What we need is in game lfg, you know social spaces that are actually social.

How is lfg any different from matchmaking ur still are running with a bunch of ransoms
-
But you get to name requirements and make sure everyone is on the same page. If you want mics you know you'll get them. If people aren't familiar with the mechanics you'll know it before going in and spending far too long on a section. Not to mention the people that go afk or trolls that just go in to ruin a run.
-
You could have a matchmaking system for that. "Min level - Mic needed - yes/no Class - warlock/hunter/Titan/any" etc with drop down menus
-
All of those variables and you'd be sitting in matchmaking for hours. On the other hand combine all of the lfg sites and recruitment forums(that already work on their own with little effort) and put them in game and boom you never have to leave the game to find a group that you know will suit you ever again. And also, join an active clan. All of our people are great and we always have familiar people to play with.
-
But they're the same variables you have in lfg?! If everyone from lfg used matchmaking like that it would work the same just automagically
-
The variables are too long of a list and no other matchmaking has those kind of standards. Not to mention there would have to different lobbies for every checkpoint in every raid. Nightfalls, whatever they're easy enough so why not.
-
Why would there be different lobbies for different checkpoints
-
Often time people are not looking to do the whole raid. That's the whole point of having checkpoints so you can leave and come back to it.
-
And if somebody leaves than matchmaking is going to have to randomly put somebody into that spot.
