Thorn and last word users, question for you.
I see a lot of debate on the forums about these guns. Many argue that these guns are overpowered and they are glad they are being nerfed, while many others defend these guns to the death and are pissed about the nerf.
So here is the question for those that use these primaries all the time. IF these guns are NOT overpowered, then why are they used all the time?
I have only played iron banner, and all I saw was thorn, last word, and the occasional red death. Some cases, felwinters.
I have never played trials, but based on the forum, it sounds like there are mainly thorns.
So again: IF these guns are NOT overpowered, then why are they used all the time?

I think they are overpowered. Last Word is glitched, but if it worked correctly it would be okay. Thorn either needs less up-front damage or a huge reduction in fire rate. The burn us irritating, but the only change I would want is if the wielder dies, the burn stops. Also, dear God, range nerf PLEASE.

Not all people that use thorn/last word think that they aren't op. They just use them cod they're the easiest to do good with

They are overpowered that's why everyone uses them, I use tlw and have no shame at all, it's about getting kills and winning not morals and pride, who the blam cares what others use like seriously, I follow the Trend, Suros-vex-thorn-tlw and it will be the same with what ever is the next op weapon

Trials will be mostly thorns last words and snipers unless u run into me then I'm blasting out hard light and could probably hear me in your part chat from my part chat laughing hard as hell when I kill a thorn user lol I get hyped when that happens be like get gud. Lmao But I love last word but it is broken I have put it away thorn is put away I will not use those guns till fixed and after that maybe just last word cause it is really fun but it's not that the last word is op it's that it's broken hip fire bonus damage procs wile aiming some times so critical hits are 111 dmg I'm definitely Wana see what it is like in the changes

I use TLW to counter CQC while I use my Revenge sniper

Well the people from trials who have messengers will start to wreck some serious scrubs now since thorn and last word can't compete. Hell red death can't compete at certain points

Thorn and The last word are fun weapons . Other weapons with the exception of auto rifles are lame. I used auto rifles before they were nerf even when every hand were op, remember back when you could snipe a oponnent with hand cannon.

I use tlw because it is the only way to stay competitive. I would love to use my vanquisher or maybe my gheleons, but right now thorn and tlw outgun them both.

Editado por Von Kunst: 8/5/2015 8:56:39 AMI think they are both very powerful guns, very competitive..I think part of this comes down to their versatility and map design...it's not necessarily that they are op, (I personally like a quicker ttk but everyone would have a different preference I guess), it's just more often then not the hand cannon user is just in a better position for there gun. Buffing auto rifles which kind of compete in the same range should help a lot more. On maps like skyshock u instantly see the difference and these guns aren't nearly as effective. So I think they are very powerful but not necessarily because of the obvious reasons...anyways I hoping the patch brings a bit of variety back, either that or bring back some of the larger maps

Editado por Paragon: 8/5/2015 6:24:20 AMBoth guns are OP because of their TTK. TLW can 2 hit kill and Thorn takes 2 shots to set up a kill with the subsequent DoT. This leaves players with no meaningful counters thus making them overpowered. I've used TLW since vanilla and although it will be sorely missed I know the change is going to help improve crucible. Thorn on the other hand is just plain toxic. Even if you hit one body shot that guy is out of the fight for at least 10 seconds or he commits and dies. A weapon with no counter is just broke. The real question should be how did the play testers at Bungie ever think this meta was good? Bunch of idiots that need to be replaced if you ask me.

I think most people can agree that Thorn and TLW are overpowered. People that think they are balanced are people that use them and are still bad so they don't see all the hype put into the weapon. TLW is really not all that bad if you take away the glitch because the magazine is very limited.

And I just don't understand why someone would look at one of the most overpowered guns in the game, recognize that it is one of the best guns in the game, and then say, "I'm not going to use this." Obviously if it's a good gun, then you should use it. And OP I know this is not what you were saying, but I have seen many people say this so I just wanted to get it out there.

There's no other way to say it, TLW is incredibly fun to use. The weapon swap animation is great, the feel of the weapon is great, and the look is great. But yes, it is OP. For 2 reasons. 1. The bonus damage that is only supposed to activate when getting crits when hip firing often procs when ADS. 2. The damage falloff of projectiles does not coincide with the range stat of the weapon. It's important to note that both of these issues are being fixed with the weapon rebalancing. That being said, I'll still be using TLW because of the reasons I first stated. Thorn is nowhere near as fun to use imo but is used by so many because it is used by so many. Not many weapons compete with its ttk, it has an effective range that no hand cannon should have, and it rewards a non-skilled hand almost as much as a skilled one. Therefore it is an obvious choice for people who can't do well with other weapons or for people who feel like they can't compete with others using Thorn without using it themselves.

I use the last word and will continue to use it after the nerf. I'm mad it's getting nerfed. Unlike most people I don't use the gun because it's over powered. I just like using the weapon. It compliments my playstyle allowing me to use a sniper while still giving me a chance close range against shotguns.

8 RespuestasThey are definitely overpowered. With the glitch onTLW, makes it an absurd time to kill. Now I think with the coming patches it will be a more fair weapon. In regards to thorn, it's range is absurd, it's DOT is too strong, and its base damage is quite high. It's the overpowered weapons that reign, because they kill the fastest. When is the last time you got killed by an auto rifle? I bet you put your controller down, took a drink, and picked it back up in the time an AR killed you. If you want to compete, use the broken weapons. Otherwise you are playing an uphill and mostly losing fight.

I use last word exclusively. I am happy they're nerf in them. I do think that last word might have been a little overdone though. Primarily the whole aiming down sights reduces the range and accuracy of the gun thing.
