What's Bungie doing about lag-switchers?

So I spent a pretty fair amount of time in Iron Banner this past week. I ran for 2-3 hours a day, starting Tuesday night, in order to purchase another copy of Goldspiral for one of my characters. I noticed, that in more than a few matches, my fireteam and I would encounter Guardians who would be playing normally at the start of a match, but would become incredibly laggy if the match turned in our favor. Once the lag started, some of these teams became functionally invincible, absorbing full clips of heavy before dropping. And they'd go down about ten seconds after you'd typically see someone drop. Sometimes, we'd get killed and the player highlighted as responsible for our death was across the map, face-first in a wall, just endlessly running to victory. Are there any guards in place to prevent us from being matchmade with lag-switchers, or just laggy folks in general? My internet's not amazing, but I get 15-20 MB/sec down and 2-4 up on average. I don't want to deal with people who aren't where you think they are, not because they outwitted me, but because their connection sucks or they're lag-switching for an advantage. I've actually encountered a few teams that use a laggy teammate as bait, and then run out to clean up whoever was dumb enough to shoot at the lagger in self-defense. That's garbage. I really like PvP, which is amazing because I don't honestly like competitive FPS gaming, but teams willfully lagging and cheating for wins takes the fun out of the game very quickly. Anyone else experienced this frustrating approach to the Crucible? The merits of playing straight-up aside, I'm sure Bungie wants players to play their game the way they intended, not cheat their way to crucible wins for gear that will only help them for a brief time in PvE. I'd rather get better than cheat to win.

  • I find wired connections better than wireless, but when I have bad connection occasionally, It basically is the same for someone who is lagging as it is against someone lagging (obviously unless lag switching). Just remember that it can be just as bad for the person with bad connection as it is to fight against them. However, it is usually obvious if someone is cheating or has a legit bad connection. While at the moment not enough is being done, the banhammers have made a few baby swings so far. I'm regular crucible I rarely encounter these people, but in the current iron banner, it's ridiculous. All I'm saying is, don't report everyone you see with a bad connection. However, even if you do report a legit player, bungie knows if they are hackers or not, due to the way the game is affected by the hack. But if you feel someone is hacking, report it. Multiple times if you really feel like it.
