Cheese vs. Normal: Why do I feel so disturbed?

I recently just ran an LFG group for the first time after doing roads 50 times with my clan. The raid the LFG group ran was normal CE. I got into a stupid argument with some of the guys over doing the bridge section the way it was intended or just cheering it. To my surprise all but one didn't even know how to complete the section normally. They had no clue why the totems light up when you stand on the center circle and don't stand on the totems to suppress the totems from wiping the group. They didn't even know the sword bearer's sword killed the Gatekeeper!!!! I was completely baffled. My clan that I created is a dedicated group that wishes to earn our rewards. At the minimum at least once before even thinking of cheesing it. Ultimately after numerous failed attempts at me trying to teach them and them bitching about me trying to learn them something that would make them feel like they earned some achievement, we just cheesed it with the warlock rez. So I found myself not understanding why they would, rather for lack of better terms, "cheat" to win than do it the right way. Does gaming not mean that you fulfill some sense of honorific journey by completing the adventure ahead without knowing the ending right from the start? After gaming for over two decades I've finally just now realized there are people in this world that would rather be handed something than do it themselves and be proud of their hard work. I know that happens a lot IRL but I didn't know it was so prevalent in a game like destiny. Thoughts?

  • Played with some queer yesterday that quit because we wanted to "cheese" oracles by wiping and sniping from up top. We found a replacement for his stuck up ass in 2 min on LFG. Go ahead an "earn" your victory while we make sure we pass it the first time, so we don't end up wasting our time.

    • It's just a game. Why worry how people want to beat something as long as it gets done. Even Mario from the original Nintendo used warp tunnels so you didn't have to play the whole game.

      • Dont be an asshole? Either way it gets done the rewards suck. If you had such a murder boner for doing it legit, why didn't you leave when they cheesed? Because you wanted the rewards more than you wanted to do it right.

Done it both but honestly when running 3 a week I could care less if it's "legit" or not. Cool to know it the right way and see how it may have been intended, but... My game, my time, my rules. I'll do it whatever way I like with my group. Hell, I'll sword swing across if my friends aren't on. Don't really care.

        • I've done it both ways. I choose to do it the faster way whether it's cheesing or not.

        • I never really cared, but I've done it both ways 25+ times. I can't really ever do it normally anymore though as I'm either soloing it or doing it with 1-2 people.

        • Yeah, kids are lazy nowadays. While not super difficult, I think doing the bridge legit is one of the more fun activities in Destiny. Their loss. I've even convinced one or two lfg groups like OP's and helped teach them how to do the bridge legit. After, they were pretty stoked about having learned something new and doing something somewhat challenging. I guess it just takes the right mix of people.

        • That kind of stuff is what killed gaming for me. I know it's not popular, but really you have the most when you play the game the way it was intended. Speed running and Gallying everything, cheesing Raids, makes me just not want to even play.

        • I usually 2 man through Crota now, primarily to avoid groups that only know the cheese & the fact that Crota's end is a really easy raid (especially with the new level cap). Even at the bridge, I find it more fun to walk back & forth over the mid to charge the bridge then wait for my friend to do the same as opposed to sending one person, wiping, and having a few warlocks snipe the adds. In a way we're completing the raid against the way it was intended still (though in a much harder manner). The raids have been cheesed since the beginning. VoG fortunately got all its cheeses fixed so it can be played through as intended, the bridge cheese on Crota has been patched too many times to a point I feel Bungie just eventually gave up.

          • I know how and did it legit many times when it first dropped. Cheeses are just evolution. People find easier/faster ways to complete stuff and with fewer people. I have zero problem with it. Maybe they were a little late to it and have never been with a group who wanted to do it legit. It's done just for shits and giggles now but when it first dropped it was a gear grind so I welcomed easier ways to do it.

          • If that particular section was properly designed you wouldnt be able to cheeese it. I have run that section solo more than once. You should be upset with bungie for making a six man raid which you can solo entirely.

          • Crota's End is not a raid, its a strike, the fact the thing can be finished in less time it takes to kill Omnigul is stupid. CE is a definite example of bad level design.

Just some speculations - I do not necessarily agree with these: -Crota's End is more like a long strike than raid compared to VOG -Naming it Crota's End puts the focus on Crota so even subconsciously players may not think the rest is important or worthwhile -bridge checkpoint doesn't really drop anything great so who cares -most players have pretty much everything from CE and if they are still missing something, it drops at Crota so just want to get there asap I've got the hang of soloing it to Crota (usually stop at Deathsinger so others can join and get exotic chance) simply because it seems to go quicker and can't think of anyone I've played with recently that still wants anything other than Deathsinger/Crota CP - not opposed to doing it "legit" but no one wants to that I know

          • If somebody wants to run their cheats, fine. But I want to do it as intended at least once. Got to mostly do that this weekend, the party agreed to do it normally and I have a better understanding of what one is supposed to do....sort of. I learned about the totems at least so that was new info for me. Still no idea how to get everybody to the other side since I did my usual wipe and let those across finish things. Maybe one day I'll see it in full without doing the dying thing. But hey, they didn't cheese it. It was half way there. I do see why people want to bypass if it they run it a lot.

            • I would like to do everything legit but since my friends mostly cheese the cheesable parts and I don't have a mic to communicate, I'm forced to either cooperate or get kicked.

            • Same thing happened to me in a game that I was invited to last week. Only difference was; Not only did they not know how to do it correctly, but also didn't know how to cheese it either. I tried to explain it so many times and they just didn't understand lol all the while I'm sitting on the other side already killing adds. Ended up having them all die and just gjallarhorning both ogres to death by myself and getting everyone through the section but like damn son, get gud.

            • I have ran into similar situations. Everytime I get to a check point with randoms, I ask them if they want to do it legit. Most of the time people just want to get it done ASAP. I don't disagree with them because I also just want to get it done ASAP. I could be wrong, but most of us play for the reward, not for the actual game play. That's the only way to get exotics like Gjallarhorn.

            • After 100 times doing it, I'm just trying to get the rewards and usually am helping people who are not properly equipped. But I find it ludicrous that people don't even -blam!-ing know how. And I've had plenty of issues with know it all noobs from lfg so I know how that goes

              • Crota's End is such a shitty raid. It's genuinely embarrassing Bungie even released it behind a paywall and consider it a raid. I will cheese it super hard in any way possible. However VoG, I love. It's super fun, and I'll avoid cheese any way possible. Even when people pushed off atheon and Templar I begged to just do it normally, and as a result when they were patched my clan were one of the only ones on our friend list that still knew how to do Templar lol

              • I would do it properly, but I imo it's best just to rush through. I'm like it with everything, I'll do it properly the first few times, then do it as fast as possible.

              • Cheesing is good for speed runs. Playing against the mechs however, is usually more fun and always good to do. That being said, I believe I have always cheesed crota bridge. I know how to do it normally, but when I do usually the other members wipe to speed up ogre spawn.
