FOR CLARITY: This is not so much a discussion of how Thorn, The Last Word, Matador and Party Crasher +1 need to be nerfed, but more a discussion about the fact that Bungie themselves said that if a set weapon or combo was the norm for PvP, that they have failed to provide a balanced and competitive PvP experience. Taking a look at the statistics (and the fact that there are multiple Thorns in every bloody match I ever play) proves that there is a lot of work that needs to be done. Ideally, it needs to be done now, so that we can enjoy the last few weeks of Year One before The Taken King comes out and we have new, unbalanced gear to worry about. And yes I bolded the entire section so that you muppets claiming "crybaby" will at least read SOME of this post before you make fools of yourselves. Original post as follows:
Bungie, you said it yourselves. The day the Crucible is filled with players using a single combination is the day you know you have failed to live up to your promises.
Gone are the days of close competition where people would swap their weapons out based on maps. Bungie, you claim to pay attention to your game's statistics, and this was proven when the auto rifle and Mythoclast nerfs came into play. And yet, for months now, the Crucible has been dominated by two weapons. We all know which exotic hand cannons I'm referring to. Thorn, which can out snipe a sniper rifle, leaving players sat behind cover as the hilariously long burn effect picks at our health; and The Last Word, which tears you apart no matter the range, its ridiculous range capable of winning a fight with a scout rifle across the map.
To make matters worse, shotguns also received a buff, and following the release of the Matador 64 and the Party Crasher +1, they're all that I've seen every single game. That and Felwinters.
So at what point do you admit your failures? When the community cried afoul of the Mythoclast, the resulting fix was swift and painful to Vex owners. After all, owning the Mythoclast was proof that you had felled Atheon himself with the difficulty ramped up to eleven. But when a hand cannon that is sold openly by Xur, or gained as a random drop from bosses or Crucible matches - or a hand cannon with a crazily easy exotic bounty - are those mostly used by the so-called called "competitive" crowd, a fix is nowhere to be seen. Instead, you claim that exotics and all other gear will become obsolete as new items are introduced. Are you sure that will be the case? Are you planning on tempting Thorn owners with an even more ridiculous weapons, or are you confident that there will be sufficient means to nullify existing weapons?
And if any of you say "if you don't like it don't play it" or "use the weapons yourself", then you're part of the problem. Me using the weapon to counter them just adds more of the same to the mix. Soon, everyone would end up using the same few weapons, and that would be that. A failure.
So I put this to you, Bungie. Are you aware of the Thorn and Last Word issues? Are you aware that these weapons are what the majority of people use in PvP (that's a link worth clicking, by the way)? Have you looked at the shitfest your PvP had become? How do you plan on making sure this doesn't happen again? Because truthfully, until you can prove to me that you're taking note of this and planning a suitable fix, the next chapter of Destiny will be several players emptier.
Note: Thanks to H631 Nicocaine for the link to the Reddit study.
NOTEWORTHY EDIT: In all fairness, I read the last few weekly updates after I posted this thread, so I've seen that Bungie are in fact planning on outlining how weapons will be rebalanced in the future. That means they are doing something, just that we'll likely have to wait until The Taken King to see it put into practice. Here's hoping that this experience with exotic hand cannons and a small niche of shotguns is a one-off.
NOTEWORTHY EDIT PART TWO: Moved the clarity section to the top so you sheeple crying "crybaby" will hopefully be able to comprehend the purpose of this thread.

Then lag lag red bar Leave the game / block red bar player ( good or bad ) Over 300 players blocked who lag or were immune during pvp I get to play 3/10 games on average ...the others games are simply not fair ... The usual complaints of guns not working / players not taking damage .. To clarify I leave the game regardless of whom I'm playing with .. You lag I leave ...

1 RespuestaWhere's hawkmoon

1 RespuestaMeh. It's fun for me still, but I kinda suck and just play for the pleasure

2 RespuestasI'm really not trying to be a jerk or anything but that's where skill comes in. Part of being skilled is knowing when to use certain weapons. If you feel you MUST use thorn then there is a lack of skill with other guns..I use thorn alot. But ascended an over soul edict and think I've been Converted to pulse rifles. And my targets were mostly thorn users with the pulse because as you point out they are over used as well as hawk moon and last word.. but it's not like making autos op again will help lol I used to snipe with suros regime it felt so wrong lol

1 RespuestaShotguns were not buffed but needed in pvp, they did get a buff on pve side.

BUMP CAUSE BUNGIE IS A$$

1 RespuestaEditado por Afawafa: 7/6/2015 11:17:06 AMCan we just take a moment to appreciate the 2 guys(or maybe it's one guy) who got a kill with a Khostov and Calcutta(white sniper)?

3 RespuestasWow. The Suros is now the 54th most used weapon. What a Joke. I'm not for nerging the thorn or last word..... But give us some viable options. I have both Thorn and last word and can't stand using them. Good points by the author of this.
-
3 RespuestasI know thorn is a pain. But you also use the thorn quit allot mate. And people using it isnt really a problem. Most players who use it arent that good

7 RespuestasCry me a river rainboy.

Bungie don't give a toss. Everything you see and hear from them over the next few months will be a sales pitch for TTK.
-
3 RespuestasThe last word doesn't have that good a range. If you use it at range it functions like a normal hand cannon as its too inaccurate to auto fire. I've never been killed or killed someone at silly range with it. Thorn however
-
My trials intro. Think I'll do a final round one tomorrow. Made I R larf. The rest is just nonsence.
-
I chuckled when you had to clarify something that was already clear in the first place. -blam!-ing retards lol
-
The biggest problem I have right now is that lethal damage is too quick. I don't understand how people who aren't that strong at PvP even do anything. When you're killed by an exotic hand cannon in 0.4 seconds, or just have dudes blinking all over the map, how can you even react when you aren't that strong a gamer? I do OK, but it's really getting tiring to be forced into a very specific playstyle. I have to use blink shotty thorn just to be able to keep up with people. It sucks.

The forums are full of these posts. If bungie hasn't seen them than im sorry. Stop complaining
-
Can i get a link to where they said our weapons would become obsolete?

Was expecting Thorn thread
*Walks out Satisfied*
I find it rather depressing that I can't find a single post here or the original reddit post that asks the OP to cite where and how the data was collected.
