Now that I've got your attention.
There's so many posts about nerf these, buff those. What we really need is a weapon re-balance patch.
Thanks to Destiny PvP weapon stats spreadsheet by Exxtrooper
As of 07/16/2015 these stats will be somewhat inaccurate
Assuming all critical hits the average time to kill (TTK) in seconds for each weapon class is as follows and their respective fastest TTK:
Auto Rifles: 1.12*
Fastest: 0.86 (Eidolon Ally/Necrochasm, no seriously)
Pulse Rifles: 0.86
Fastest: 0.67 (Red Death)
Scout Rifles: 0.90
Fastest: 0.80 (Gheleon's Demise/The Scholar)
Hand Cannons: 0.89
Fastest 0.26 (The Last Word Hipfired)
Now these stats are using all guns for each class that are listed (including the greens). So it's not a particularly great representation.
If we shorten that list to say, just end game tier legendaries and exotics and perk set ups that minimize TTK:
Auto Rifles (8) : 0.96*
Pulse Rifles (6) : 0.82
Scout Rifles (5) : 0.92
Hand Cannons (9**) : 0.65***
* For the TTK values of auto rifles I did not include the Vex Mythoclast, as it is not and has not been subject to auto rifle adjustments through patches for the same reason I did not include the Lord of Wolves into pulse rifles. Its current TTK is 0.64s.
** I counted The Last Word ADS and TLW Hip-Fired as two different guns, Thorn with DoT and Thorn without DoT as two different guns, and Hawkmoon as three guns as 39% of the time it will 2-shot, and 0.04% to one-shot (0.605 gun at 0.86s, and 0.394 gun at 0.40s, and 0.00046 gun at 0.01s)
*** This average TTK doesn't factor time for Thorns DoT to inflict fatal damage, only the time required for Thorn to land the shots that the DoT will cause fatal damage. The total time for DoT to kill is about 1.2s after two consecutive headshots from the time the first round hits.
These stats imply, at least in my opinion, that auto rifles definitely need a buff, but apparently not a huge one.
Other than that, it seems Auto Rifles vs Pulse Rifles vs Scout Rifles are pretty well balanced vs each other.
Pulse rifles kill a little quickly compared to the other two, but if the user makes a mistake then they have to wait for the burst to end and the next burst is ready to correct. Auto rifles can correct mistakes quickly, but still relies on others mistakes to be effective.
Scout rifles can correct mistakes more easily and are less unforgiving than pulse rifles, but require more finesse to land shots.
Then there's these assholes (Thorn/TLW) TTK way lower than any other primary, just INSANE. Very forgiving of mistakes, if you miss a shot your next shot will be ready to fire and hit before other weapons max TTKs are reached, if your opponent makes a mistake, may RNJesus have mercy upon their soul. It seems the other three weapon classes need a buff to bring their TTKs to be more competitive with these Hand Cannons which would bring all weapon TTKs down to reaction/twitch/flick levels. These HandCannons could be nerfed to make them more unforgiving so their TTK was for the truly skilled (which would just make everyone hate hand cannons even more). Or some other nerf, most likely a small impact nerf so that it takes one extra body shit to kill.
But for the love of all that is this game, don't nerf HandCannons into the ground.
Very small nerf, just enough so other weapon types are competitive.
I love hand cannons, but it's hard to argue for them not being OP in the face of these stats.
EDIT: Lots of people are commenting that this is equivalent to the AR nerf posts.
I personally call bullshit, cuz I don't remember much of those posts. ARs were nerfed because 98% of players used them, and Deej explained that.
Hand Cannons are overpowered, you all know this, if they weren't they wouldn't be THE meta.
Weapon usage stats would prove beyond any doubt that Hand Cannons are over powered.
EDIT2: Because many of you are reading the title and immediately commenting without reading anything.
THE TITLE IS -blam!-ING CLICKBAIT.
CLICKBAIT.
OBVIOUS CLICKBAIT IS OBVIOUS.
EDIT3: I did some math.
An equation to represent Hawkmoons 2-shot capability based on mag-size.
If you believe Hawkmoon to have too high or too low chance to 2-shot, this equation will give you the mag size you need to yield whatever chance to 2-shot you want.
Equation
EDIT 4:
Some people apparently don't understand exactly why Thorn and TLW are over powered.
Not including true bugs (TLW Hipfire damage while ADS, or Thorn final round on not last round)
Thorn as a base gun, is a good gun, it's totally fine.
What makes it OP is the DoT, which allows for a two shot headshot 100% of the time.
Which you can apply in 1/3 of a second.
Easy fix for Thorn, without making it garbage, is to not allow the DoT to kill.
This would make the weapon still a great weapon, The DoT would suppress the hell out of someone, and Thorn would still have a great TTK at 0.73s
The Last Word is OP because it hits just as hard as Thorn, but has a 36% higher fire rate. Allowing you to land 3 headshots in 1/2 of a second. The fix for The Last Word is to lower it's rate of fire slightly. From 225 rpm to 190 rpm. This keeps the gun at a great TTK of 0.63s, but is not as forgiving of mistakes. (Before if you only missed one shot your TTK was still around 0.75s)
I also RESCIND my statement that ALL HandCannons in general need nerfs.
Just these two. As they are the only ones that really break the mold.
EDIT 5 We'll have to see how things pan out with the 2.0.0 weapon tuning, but Bungie devs are definitely listening!
Can't say I 100% agree with some of the changes though. It looks like The Last Word is still going to be a monster, also, who would have thought that my equation on Hawkmoons 2-shot chance based off magazine size would become so relevant to 2.0.0? That's honestly hilarious.
Hawkmoons 2 extra bullets don't change it's 2-shot chance very much. It was at 39%, now it's 36%.

6 RespuestasI'll just keep using my Thorn and final round LDR and block out the h8tr's lel. If you don't want to use the available tools to win, then your borderline retarded. That's like asking me to have some soup and giving me a fork and a spoon, and I take the fork rendering me unable to eat the soup as intended. Was the better tool available? Yeah, of course. Did my parents say I would be a "skrub fgt" and a cheater for using the spoon? Yeah. Did I eventually decide to use the spoon? Hell yea I did.

10 RespuestasSTOP ASKING BUNGIE TO NERF THINGS. Each game has a op weapon/weapon varient. Auto rifles used to rule the crucible. After the nerf rendering them useless, handcannons replaced them. If handcannons are nerfed, pulse rifles will take their place. And people will complain about red death, and eventually The crucible will be in such a shattered state, that it will be unplayable. So please stop complaining and accept the fact that the crucible is broken, and there really isn't anything that we can do about it.

3 RespuestasEditado por Jakerman82: 7/16/2015 11:54:07 PMThen play something else and stop whinning! I went back to TF2 and with my luck I found a good unusual on the market! Seriously, you're just like half the people on the feedback form, NERF THORN or THORNS FOR NUBS... have you considrred that calling someone a skrub just because of a weapon is very unfair? You are being rude to people including me. So.... please.. go -blam!- yourself :)

Editado por EV-35 ArcRunner: 7/17/2015 4:44:04 PMI just have to mention that the badgerCCL TTK is also very good. Its base stats are almost exactly like the scholars except for stability. I love my max range badgerCCL with outlaw/firefly hammer forged/ranged rlr5 scope. It can can land 3 head shots from sniper range in crucible and get a kill.

I agree with how they've addressed Thorn, actually. Should be interesting to see. On Hawkmoon, was it never intended to have the perks triple proc on one bullet? (Xbox user, never had hands on experience with the HawkAwesome). And the buggy TLW perk has been addressed, so maybe there might be some hope that TLW won't be as much of a monster as you think. Time will tell.

1 RespuestaI like how he uses thorn
-
3 RespuestasStill going to use thorn after patch.
-
1 RespuestaI use thorn/tlw because I have no choice unless you like losing then choose another weapon that ain't gonna get you kills
-
3 RespuestasThey call me "Mr. Clean" because I'm such a scrub. I will use whatever I like!
-
2 RespuestasCurrent very imaginative crucible loadout: Primary: Thorn or Last Word Secondly: Party Crasher, Matador or Felwinters with an overpowered perk roll Heavy: Rocket Launcher with Tripod and Grenades and Horseshows. How original

2 RespuestasEditado por Just Dan: 7/17/2015 1:43:55 PM[REDACTED]....He's good.

1 RespuestaI used to be like you. But then I decided to join them, using the weapon with the lowest time to kill... Don't matter what gun I use, your still gonna die.
-
1 RespuestaActually, if scrubs use thorn then how do they kill people? They would get killed before they even land a second body shot.

3 RespuestasOP is a crybaby scrub.

I think Thorn and TLW should be fixed because they're a little too easy to use and get kills with. That being said I don't think these weapons should be nerfed into the ground like Suros Regime and the rest of the Auto rifles (R.I.P). I say this because should we make Thorn and TLW useless and obsolete, then Red Death will rise to power and the it will get nerfed and so on. Anyways I think that a range fix for TLW would be good seeing as the range stats and the actual range are to completely different things. Thorn should be reverted to it's pre-buff stats seeing as it was fine even then (trust me Thorn was my only exotic back then so I know). Another way of balancing thorn would be to keep it's current stats and have the DoT do less so that it's burn damage doesn't kill in two shots. You can still kill with the burn damage however only when the enemy has already taken damaged. Now before anyone starts saying "You just want to see the fixed because you don't like them!" I love Thorn and TLW however It's best if the get fixed a bit so that they're not so OP but are still able to compete rather than having them be OP for a little longer, then have them nerfed to the ground and then having to put them in the vault for all time because they are no longer able to kill at all.

15 RespuestasBruh I can't wait to see how much people struggle when their precious thorn becomes -blam!-ing worthless
-
I agree. It is these two exotics HCs that break the mold. When I switch back to my fulcrum hc the difference is significant. The Fulcrum reminds me of how HCs are supposed to be.
-
4 RespuestasYou're a scrub if you can't defend yourself against thorn
-
It all needs redone. LOOK at that Hand cannon TTK.. That's disgusting.
-
I see where you are coming from & you made some good points but i am not sure if we should nerf because we will always find something to nerf after this... first AR, now thorn, etc. I think we take away the value of this exotic. Maybe we can nerf it very little not to ruin it. Perhaps the range or rate of fire. I think a better solution may be if we have more weapons/gear that are tailor made for Pvp. Thats probly why we keep seeing the same loadouts in trials (thorn, TLW, F. LIE, final round, etc) because these are the best stuff for PVP. But if we had more options to choose from then we wouldn't see everyone with same loadout.
-
My advise is to get one good weapon of each primary archetype to prepare. Until then, if you really have to go into crucible, use thorn/tlw to prevent saltlyness.
-
7 RespuestasIt's such a pay off when you kick someone's ass who's using thorn. I'm like yeah and what b@tch you got no skills!!
-
Agree completely. I saw 11\12 people in my crucible lobby using thorn the other day. The only one who wasn't using the thorn was me. I run double sniper, no land beyond 365 and supremecy 365 because it is the only way to counter thorn without using it. Sniper is instant kill if u are mlg to get consistent headshots.
-
I agree with you, well presented and thought out article. A pleasure to read. All feedback articles should be presented like this.

23 RespuestasGrow up. Just coz ur ass is getting whooped by hand cannons. Doesn't mean u hafta shît ur self bout it here. Hand cannons are great. I use both the thorn and TLW. go get one. But I definitely agree with the auto rifle buff. We really need that
-
6 RespuestasIt's is amazing that ppl are so butt hurt about thorn that they waste there time typing this shit up and making spread sheets when the real solution is to just not play crucible.
