So a friend and I constantly play Destiny, but one week when The Nexus was the Nightfall, my friend got Gjallarhorn and I got a solar LDR-5001. We joked how insane it was and how lucky he is for getting it. But now, about a month and a half later, he's been becoming a kind of d!ck that you only find when someone's been hanging out with the wrong crowd.
Now that HOW is out, he's been able to do all these great PoE runs while I have to sit back and only play the 28 and 32 versions because I haven't had the time to commit to a 34 or 35. So 2 days ago, I finally rustled up 3 free hours of Destiny game time and I asked him if we could do PoE 34 so I could get a weapon core or possibly some Etheric Light. I even offered to find a group, which is something I didn't normally do. We found a person who happened to have a 365 Gjallarhorn, even though I said Gjallarhorn not required on the LFG site.
Here's the part where I got upset. The LFG guy inspects me and finds I only have a 331 Hunger of Crota, which I guess wouldn't work against Qodron apparently. He mentions this to my friend, (Let's call him Sam), and Sam asks why I still don't have a Gjallarhorn yet. And I reply, "Well, I just haven't had the time to do 12 raids and 3 Nightfalls every week. I guess RNG just doesn't like me, haha!" At this point I smell something amiss.
And then Sam says the words that I have been dreading since the day he got his Gjallarhorn. "Well Qodron can't be killed without 3 Gjallarhorns."
I try to say I can kill ads while they shoot him, but he eventually kicks me from the fireteam and the party and invites another random. Is this really what Destiny has become? Has Gjallarhorn become so much of a crutch that the game can't be completed without one?
Thanks to this pathetic, overpowered weapon, I lost my only friend I ever played Destiny with. I remember when we both didn't have Gjallarhorn. It was fun, imagining what it'd be like to wield this coveted, golden trimmed, pristine beast of a weapon and run into battle and blow everything away. Well he did blow one thing away. My respect for him. The fact that he would let something that didn't even exist in real life come between us just floored me. Gjallarhorn is the worst weapon to ever be put into Destiny. It's utterly despicable to have the entire community separated by weapon. A measly weapon! Not skill, not playtime, not even levels, but as long as you have Gjallarhorn, you're welcome among the Destiny "Elite", which apparently doesn't have time do deal with "No-Ghorn scrubs" like me.
I realize some of the people who have Bally's aren't like this, so I respect you. You are the poster child of Destiny. Someone who helps anyone, regardless of skill, age, or equipment, on anything, raid, strike, or even story missions. I respect you. However, to people like my "friend" Sam, you people disgust me. I can't believe you, not helping people just because they don't have a certain weapon. I'm not asking for your punishment, nor am I asking for your sympathy, I'm just asking you to realize what you're doing to this community that's supposed to be friendly and supporting.
I'm sorry if I offended anyone, but it had to be said. Gjallarhorn is ruining the game.
Edit 1: I never said that Qodron couldn't be beaten without 3 Ghorns. It was my friend. I know the strategy to beat it. I've watched the videos.
Edit 2: Fixed minor spelling bugs. Also, thanks for the kind words and the acceptance of this post! :)
Edit 3: Thanks for all the support guys! My favorite comment is the one from Sirfortiscue,
"Godzillahorn is like The Ring from Lord of the Rings.
It's beautiful to look at and everyone wants it. But, when someone holds it in their possession, it transforms that person into something dark, something evil.
No amount of talking will bring him back. It has consumed him, his Precious."
That said, some people are Bilbo Baggins and can resist the urge through not knowing it's true power. I like you, Bilbo Baggins.

As a fellow no Gally player I feel your pain. Just because we cant do the Gally cheez we are crapped on by our once time friends. I have 800+ hours in this game and no Gally here. I hope you get your Gally soon.
-
He's not your friend
-
I cant do 34 or 35 because i cant find a -blam!-ing group
-
I beat him with patience in time.another guy had hunger of crota and. The new monarchy launcher so even though I have 2 gally. Its not my primary heavy I use. Im so sorry you experinced this it's sad. If your on xbox 360 hit me up some time.
-
Sorry that happened to you. Unfortunately this has happened since Bungie hasn't had Xur sell it. This kinda crap would go away if he would. BTW, I killed Qodron the legit way with two buddies. One had a 331 Hunger, 365 Truth, and me...a 334 Truth. It can be done to all the nay-sayers. It took several wipes and patience. Cheers to you good sir!

Thanks for Posting this I see a Nerf in the near Future
-
i feel your pain - sucks
-
2 RespuestasThat sucks I'll gladly run you threw 34 if ur on ps4.
-
That sucks dude... i hope you find some better friends to play with and finally get your gjallarhorn.
-
Great thread, I agree gjallarhorn is good, BUT not needed.
-
Couldnt have said it better! I just got one this week and i will never become like 'sam'! XD
-
Your friend is retarded, I beat him MY FIRST TRY without Gallys! And this was before the nerf!
-
Your friend is dick, and a dumb one at that.
-
You can beat it easily enough without gjallerhorn (which as you say you know) as for your "friend" he's a douche. Find a few others you can play with every so often if you can :)
-
My team and I beat him with primaries and a 33 with hunger. So your "friend" isn't much of a friend. Some of my friends don't have Gally and I don't care.
-
Yeah... He wasn't really your friend.
-
I never got this. When I got Gally, it wasn't like a messaged all my friends who didn't have it and was like, "good knowing ya, scrubs! Off to be 1337 now." I saw it as, for lack of a better term, I have "won" the game. I have the weapon most cherished. So, while there are my own personal goals I still want to accomplish, my main priority became helping my friends "win" the game, or at least enjoy the endgame content a little easier now. I don't mind parts of the elitism in this game. People just take it too far. I'm proud of the gear I have accumulated in this game. I'm even more proud that my friends have gotten much of theirs because of my help.
-
Don't be disheartened. There is always a way without using a gally. Leave those elitist pricks to stew in their misplaced ego, there are plenty of other guardians willing to help. Shame about your friend, but hey, you found exposed his true character, which is way more valuable than a Gally.
-
A good Life lesson and it only took a op Video game weapon. Most ppl find out who their fake friends are during much more difficult situations. Hell just be glad it didnt cost you a bunch of money, as these fake friends are usually outed when they wont pay you back or do something more shady then that even.
-
Gjallahorn makes everything easier, but it is by no means "needed". I always run with my two best friends. One has been blessed, the other has not. I always rag on the non-blessed one, because that's what friends do. But we've run every PoE together, except for the 35( he didn't wanna try it yet). I am looking forward to the day he finally gets it though. His complaints about not having it do get tiresome
-
That's bullshit on "sams" part! While I understand the power of gally I straight up refuse to boot someone because they don't have that gun! Especially if they're my friend! A few guys in our clan are still missing it and no one in our group get left out because of a certain weapon or piece of armour what ever it may be! (If your interested in joining a clan, send me a msg on here or Xbox one (if that's ur console) ) People need to learn how to do things properly without gally spamming! (I'm guilty of it myself sometimes, but do try doing legit most times) Anyway, let go of Sam and get some new mates! If ur on the one hit me up n u can join our clan!

Gjallarhorn has the power to down bosses and friendships...
-
Unfortunately it wasn't the weapon that caused your 'friend' and many others to act like dorks. Games like Destiny are perfect because they bring out how people really are. I've seen it again and again and experienced it myself where when two of my friends got the coveted Gjallerhorn they became little punks. I just got my gally a couple of weeks ago and it's a great weapon, but it's not needed for any fights. Team communication is needed above all else. PSN: zimzalllabim
-
Not much of a friend anyone who thinks content can't be beat without that weapon is a coward you'll find better people to play with then that scum bag
-
if someone says to you that any particular boss cant be done without gally then they deserve booting and blocking boss' are actual fun to do when you run through their mechanics, gally just sucks the fun out of this game
-
If your on xbone add me I don't mind helping ppl out. Ghorn is awesome but really not necessary. Please just see it as a crutch they can't live without. Gt is same as name here btw
