I too have been looking to farm for the elder cipher but on skolas, basically join at the end (6th round) and help kill him but I read something on ign which stated you had to play from the begging up to the boss and kill him for a chance at the exotic bounty, so the question is can I successfully farm the bounty by joining teams and only doing skolas ?

GREAT NEWS! After killing Skolas twice this week i have got 2 Elder Cypher Bounties out of 2 level 35 runs. I am currently starting my third run with my third character and hope for a third. Another member of the party received a Void Six Dreg Pride II. It is a character that has not received the Cypher before as i thought that it would be similar mechanics to Crux being that you had to loot the Cypher first before being rewarded with other cool gear as an incentive to keep playing the 35. However it just seems that RNGesus is behind the looting so you can loot the Cypher of elemental primaries each week, once per character, once per week. Tried last week. We killed skolas and wiped 6 times, before we got tired of waiting on synth and finished it up. No Elder Cipher, or elemental primaries (what I was really hoping for).. Maybe just bad luck...

It isn't farmable. I've done so much research and 100% say they got it from first run unfortunately.

It's easier to do it on Skolas since you can kill him in about a minute and then just wipe instead of dismantling the mines. Get full heavy and super ready each time, and make sure your synth cool down is clear. Rush to the left where the first servitor spawns, kill it, and then have all 3 players unleash all their heavy on Skolas, use synth, keep going, and you can drop him in less than a minute. Then as mentioned, wipe instead of dismantling the mines. It's good having supers ready since obviously Titan can run Weapons of Light buff, Warlocks can self revive and drop solar grenades, and Hunters can use Golden Gun; which all equates to additional damage/safe-guards. Every time I've done it all players have had fully upgraded ghorns, so might be harder without ghorns. We farmed him last night and killed him about 9 times in a row with the utmost of ease. The video above shows it all (not my video just one I found on Youtube). And as you can see, the Elder Cipher definitely drops upon Skolas's death without having to dismantle the mines/complete the missions.

After reading about the Elder Cypher being farm-able on the Planet Destiny website, i spent all day farming the 34 PoE. I CAN CONFIRM THAT THIS DOES NOT WORK! I have been streaming all day, farmed the 34 PoE for 5 hours from start to finish averaging 20 minutes runs. Then, Farmed just Urrox The Flame Prince for 30 minutes killing him every 2-4 minutes totaling about 15 kills. I have not got the bounty this week nor has another member of my fireteam. So either it has a literal 1/1000 of dropping after reset, i would say that its only dropped once per reset per character. So if someone could tell Planet Destiny their intel was bad, that'd be great :) Pleased to have helped with this investigation.

Easier to farm on 35. Heavy ammo glitch, kill boss, don't capture zones. Rinse repeat. My buddy got it in my fire team that way. I haven't had time to re-run it for myself that way yet.

Was thinking the same thing myself but after finding videos on YouTube and doing some research, the Elder Cipher drops after you get the Modifiers Cleared message. So you cannot just kill Urrox and wipe. No easy way / cheese to farm it, gotta run the entire 34 POE.

What level does the bounty drop from?

It cannot be farmed. It's like the crux. Only one drop chance per week. It can drop from level 34 or 35 main boss, but once you complete it, that is it
