How can you be both Christian and pro-gay?

It quite literally reads in the bible that being gay is a sin. Now obviously nothing Christianity says about the Universe is actually true, but I still don't see how you could be Christian and ignore the parts of the bible you don't like. But then again, pretty much every Christian picks and chooses which parts of the bible they feel like following. Either way, how exactly do you justify being Christian and pro-gay? Do you just ignore the parts you don't agree with like most Christians or do you have another way of justifying it?

  • If people actually paid attention to what is said in the bible, and didn't just use it to justify their own insecurities, they would realize that the question you pose is the same as these: How can you be a Christian and lie, no matter how small or insignificant the lie? How can you be a Christian and want something that isn't yours, especially if it belongs to someone else? How can you be a Christian and bad mouth someone? How can you be a Christian and work on Sundays? How can you be a Christian and disobey and/or disrespect your parents? How can you be a Christian and put more time into your career than you do into God? How can you be a Christian and think sexually about someone you aren't married to, especially if that is someone else's wife? These are all things that most everyone is guilty of doing, but because of the social stigma that homosexuality has, it is perceived as a worse sin, and focused on wholly by the world. Imagine if we tried to prevent people from talking back to their parents, or if we tried to get everyone to stop lying with the energy and voracity that we have when we constantly debate and fight about homosexuals and trans folk and their rights to life—yes, rights, because for quite a long time, the church has had no power in government, and rightfully so. Remember the Crusades from that high school History class?
My point is backed by Romans 3:23 and James 2:10 (NIV).
• It doesn't say being gay is a sin outright, it says it's an abomination. Now you might say that's just as bad or even worse but you have to put it into context. How long ago was it written? Not even 100 years ago being gay meant to be happy. And what about the sabbath? It's an abomination to work on the sabbath. And to eat pork. It's we're reading it as if it was written yesterday and that's just not the case.

    • I don't think you quite understand Christianity, my friend. The part of the Bible that says that homosexuality is sinful is in Leviticus, which is 3rd book of the Old Testament. The first five books of the Old Testament are the Torah, and the Torah is the original Jewish law. In fact, I think "Torah" literally means "law" in Hebrew. The Torah also says: Leviticus 19:27 "Neither shalt thou mar the corners of thy beard." Translation: don't trim your beard. That being said, not following most of the Jewish law is actually what Christianity is based upon. In fact, when a Pharisee (a Jewish religious official) asked Jesus what the greatest commandment in the law was, Jesus replied, 37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’[a] 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” (Mathew 22:37-40) Allow me to put emphasis on verse 39
LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF
And such are the teachings of Jesus. I will erase this post if you find anywhere where Jesus says, "except gay people." Now, a definition: Christian: 1. a person who is a believer in Jesus Christ and his teachings. So what have we learned here today? We have learned that Christians who hate gay people are actually the hypocrites, and do not correctly follow the teachings of Jesus Christ. Glad I could help! PS: if you have any other beef with Christians, pm me and I will be glad to explain anything you perceive as hypocritical. Stupid people are often the loudest group of people, which is why there are many misconceptions about Christianity

      • There was a time in the Middle Ages when the only people who could read the bible were the priests, and they were extremely corrupt. It makes sense that they would have added stuff like that because it benefits them in some way. No one would ever have known because they would slowly over time change the wording of a few things, and eventually it becomes completely different

          • It's not being pro-gay, its accepting that there is sin, and loving your neighbor as yourself, as a Christian, I don't condone or condemn being gay, it's your choice, my only concern is that I show you the positive impact Christ can have on your life, this is what some people fail to see in some Christian, we just want you to know that Christ is here whether you believe us or not.

            • Adultery is equal. Murder is equal. Stealing is equal. I call myself a logical Jesus believer. The word Christian is shit. It means nothing. The devil will be anal pounding most church goers in the end for how they treat the world. I'm pro people. Gay, straight whatever. Only negative thought I have on our pink brothers is that they could evolutionarily be population control. Only thing that makes sense to me biologically speaking. I simply believe that Jesus existed and that God is EXTRADIMENSIONAL. Not magic. But hard science. How do ppl have babies today without having sex?(hint: it happens every day) Don't hate the Christians back. They're honestly just worshipping a more physical being than what they give credit for. Kinda like the Conquistadors and the Tribals..... It exists. But isn't all hocus pocus. Einstein's math does say infinite universes do exist. It would make sense that a dude from one got bored and said PHUGGIT. I'm making a world.
i would and you would
• We don't need to follow every aspect of the Bible to be considered Christians. The following three points are the only defining traits of Christians as a whole: 1.) Believe in one God. 2.) Believe in Jesus. 3.) Love one's neighbor as oneself. Besides these three, anything goes.

Actually, there is a way. I believe that it is a sin. You can argue with me about that, but that's not my point. If somebody is homosexual, I will not try to "convert" them. Honestly, that's their thing, and I'm not gonna get involved in some stranger's life because they "caught the gay" or something. I think it's stupid that people who also believe in a God who wants us to have free will and to love each other would so hatefully go after homosexuals. I don't agree with it, but I'm not gonna stop them, it's not my business.

Love the sinner, hate the sin. Read this: “Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye. (‭Matthew‬ ‭7‬:‭1-5‬ ESV) homosexuality is indeed a sin, but it's not worse than divorce, or adultery, and those are practically admired by today's society. I don't hate homosexuals

It also says a bunch of things that Christians do on the daily are sins... You think Jesus would have hated gays!? Nah. Why should a REAL Christian judge any LGBT person!? Remember the "judge not lest ye be judged yourselves" part!?
Besides, anyone who bases their life on a 2000 year old story book who's savior is a rip off of Horus from Egyptian Mythology that predates Jesus Christ is an idiot anyway.
• That sin doesn't effect the person. Only supporting it would be considered a sin. So a Christian could be OK with it but not support a union.
