What do you prefer the AR-15 or the AK-47 and what is your reason why you love it over the gun?

4 RespuestasProbably the AR15 sandy hook taught us that toddlers are small and unarmoured, yet difficult to hit at range or when running; therefore the higher velocity of a 556 round and better accuracy means they're easier to hit.

AR-15 -Cheaper ammo. -Endless mods -Can achieve extremely good accuracy I'm about to start building a 20" varmint AR using a Rock River upper, with whatever lower i get and a Timney 2 stage trigger. Shot a coworker's AR yesterday and put 7/10 rds in one ragged half inch hole @ 100. Pulled the first three figuring out the trigger. I want one even more now.

ar-15 because the ammo is cheaper and very readily available. the ak is a fun firearm to shoot though.

Two different platforms. ARs are modable to the umpth degree. Don't like the fore end? Swap it out. Want to use .300 blackout instead? Swap the upper. Feel like using Piston instead of Direct Impingement? Swap the upper and gas system. Want to build an accurate rifle for long range shooting? Get the upper parts to do so. AKs are for people who want a rifle that works. They are kind of like Macs, but so much better.

AR15, mainly due to it being so modular. When someone shoots at you with a AK you tend to not like it anymore. Hope you burn in hell goat -blam!-ers.

I wouldn't want to be downrange of either, especially if the operator was competent with the arm. For me? I've trained, drilled and am so accustomed to the AR platform and have a high degree of confidence in the cartridge (provided that the barrel length allows for >3,000 fps velocity and the rifling twist keeps the bullet in a barely stable state, both of which increase the terminal effectiveness of the round) that I go with the and own an AR. While they aren't really apples/oranges (more like apples/pears), either is an effective intermediate cartridge rifle and I have a great deal of respect for the advantages of both.

2 RespuestasAR-15 because my grandpa owns a 1970's AR-15 made by Colt. First off, the thing just looks badass. Second, it's more fun to shoot. Third, it's worth about $3,000 because Colt doesn't make them anymore.

Lightweight gun, simple design, which means easy cleaning and disassembling. Ammo is at a decent price, 7.62x39 is a powerful round and government isn't trying to ban it like the .556 and they aren't coming after AK's (at least not yet anyway). Plus I like Russian weapons they are just cool. AK's are very dependable and IMO are better quality than the AR's (metal beats polymer any day) although you can get a full metal AR. Plus a gun that is wood and metal is just plain sexy. But if I was going to get a gun that I want to customize I'd do with an AR because you have tons more options to work with, not saying you can't customize an AK. AK for dependability and AR for looks

Not ton mention the fact that it rarely if ever jams and works in poor conditions. Also has to do with my interest in Russian history, owning one would be like owning a piece of history same as owning an m1911 or mosin nagant

But myself I haven't shot an AR-15 but I have shot an AR-10 it shoots a 7.62x54 (.308) but I still like the AK just cause it's able to do a lot more can put it in water and it still cycles through a mag with no problem. And you can actually use Motor oil to lube up the gun and it's easier to field strip and way more easier to clean up.

AR15. The AK isn't as accurate. But that's just my personal preference. I know folks who love the AK. They're both fun to shoot.

As a red-blooded American, I feel obligated to say the AR-15, but... [spoiler]The AK is just so cool man! I mean, I know it's overused, but it's got that bad-guy cool factor, and it's a good weapon, and never breaks.[/spoiler]
