I'll start out by saying that I'm glad matchmaking is finally making it's way in, we've been asking for it since launch and I'm sure tons of people will benefit from it. But why can't it be optional?
I for one prefer to solo the weekly strikes. They provide a decent challenge and I can go at my own pace while glimmer farming or doing bounties.
While there are plenty of pros to adding matchmaking, making it mandatory also gives it a few cons:
People going AFK.
I don't mind carrying people or helping them through the weekly activities, but when it comes to getting better rewards in the weekly, I don't want a KermitTHEfrog to walk away with an exotic even though he never left the starting area. We already have this problem with the normal strike playlists, it'll only get worse with the weekly heroic.
(Again, I don't mind carrying people who die a lot or don't get very many kills, let them get good rewards, I just don't want to have to deal with people contributing absolutely nothing and getting rewarded for it.)
Running ahead, dying, wiping.
Another problem I come across quite a bit while doing ROC strikes.
Trying to complete the bounty to not die in a strike when someone, whom is obviously way better than me and knows what they're doing, decides to run to the next area only to die and cause a wipe. It doesn't happen all the time, but it's very annoying when it does.
Going in with a friend and they get kicked.
It's happened before an it'll happen again.
With mandatory matchmaking I might not always be able to invite them back, which forces them, or me, to do the whole thing over again. This is the worst when you make it all the way to the boss and then get kicked.
If it's just me and a friend I can hold off on killing the boss until they get back, with another person in there, who may not have a mic or entered into the strike chat, they'll continue to kill said boss forcing the friend to do it all over again. Everyone I play with has been kicked at least once during a weekly or nightfall, and we always wait until they get back to finish it, this won't always be possible if it's mandatory.
Again, I'm happy that matchmaking is finally being added, it'll help out a lot more people than it'll hinder. But I see no reason why it can't be optional. With it being optional, everyone wins. Being mandatory, a lot of your community loses out on a way they prefer to play; either with just one friend or by themselves.
If DeeJ actually reads this then I ask you; is there any reason why it can't be optional? Why are they making it mandatory? Can you see why kids love cinnamon toast crunch?
Edited for spelling.

I hate MM, it's funny how Bungie caters to all the whiners.
even funnier that they put MM on WH but not on raid which everybody was bitching about.
On my hunter I proudly soloed 90% of the story missions and loved the challenge and the fact I had no reliabilities I didn't have to watch out for anyone and I didn't have to worry about anyone screwing up but me. This was within the first month or so. My pride with this still stands I hate relying on people unless needed and I can't think of a single weekly that we will NEED 3 people or at least that I would need 3 people ya it will help but it allows for less flawed plan when you do it by yourself. I want my solo pride to still be viable in this game don't take this right from me
-
I fully support this idea. Keep in mind Bungie , Weeklies are not that challenging with 3 people. If you force us to use Matchmaking , you'll basically take away one of the most entertaining things in the game for us. Doing things Solo so we can face a better challenge.

Editado por LP Slash: 2/23/2015 5:21:15 PMMandatory is when you are tied down with a gun to your head and told to spill government secrets. Doing some event in some video game is never mandatory.

AFK: I do not mind, since I too solo them, as long as one of the others helps. As far as the, "not doing anything and being rewarded", again, because of the loot system, (and multiplayer PVP directly affected by PVE) I have absolutely Zero problem AT ALL! If I happen to have a leecher, hell I don;t mind having 2 If the weekly Is stupidly easy to solo (for someone that plays like me, example, Will Of Crota last time it was weekly, not this time, was with solar burn and was easy after I got past the fallen with their shrapnel launchers) Purportedly wiping: Yes that is utter bs (unless I died in a earlier part I find hard, they left me behind, and wiped ahead, only time I appreciate it, bu usually I don;t have trouble unless I'm having a bad day) Friends & kicked: This! This is the sole reason I agree with you 100%, I would be on the edge if this was not mentioned, this is reason enough all on it's own for optional matchmaking anywhere outside of crucible (and as a possibly option in 2v2/3v3)

Great post, bump.

1 RespuestaDealing with afk At start, i walk 50 paces away from the spawn area and look back at the other guardians If someone doesn't move, report for afk, go to orbit and try a different match
-
A good argument although I must say I'm more inclined to go in for the nightfall with friends anyway. I don't think I will want to go and play that with total strangers.
-
Agree completely. Sometimes we start the strike with two people while that one guy who can never remember to change all his gear over does so, saving time and letting him join in when done. Or in the case of dlc content, I don't have the strike unlocked with my third character; if my friends I'm playing with don't either (aka poor planning on everyone's part) then one of us will start it with a character that does, change characters, then join back.

Valid points well written. MM should be optional.
-
Absolutely agree with you. When people go afk it really pisses me off and I wish bungle actually did something about it
-
I agree let's have optional match making for strikes, night fall and raids, those who want it can use the option those who are happy with the status quo can stay happy with existing systems. Simple!
